GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Gaucho had flown this way only a season prior when frost still lingered in the shadows. Now, with Birdsong in full bloom the Hidden Falls appeared even more hidden than they had previously. Lush foliage blanketed everything, so that the vibrancy of the green was impenetrable. However as he flew he noticed blue lines running nearly everywhere. When this had been the foothills water wasn't nearly as prevalent as it was now ... must have been something the Earth God did after the Wraiths left. Nothing had happened to the Throat but ... clearly something happened here.

He flew easily with Buce at his side, gliding wordlessly. He still couldn't see the black stallion, nor any others, but it was getting easier to navigate the world with Mara's assistance. Even so, it was a strange world to be sure. It still felt isolated ... but then, that was the point of the blindness.

Gaucho dipped downwards, flaming wings spread from his sides gently catching and manipulating his feathers to descend gracefully. His dark hooves touched down just outside of the borders of the Falls. Even though an easy truce had been struck between the Czar and the Sultan, it was still respectful.

"Midas!" Gaucho called loudly. Mentally he told Mara to scan the skies for his fire and ice birds - they would likely appear before the Czar did.

Snorting he looked around. He was sure his friend would aid in their quest. Surely Midas' crafters hadn't already expended all of their crafting energies? And just what was it that the Falls crafted with anyways? Wood possibly? There surely was enough of it here.

The dun wondered to himself what Midas would think of his replacement. The thought was meant only in jest given how similar his and Buce's colour schemes were. Would he approve? Did Gaucho care whether or not he did? Still, this was the first time in a long time that the Throat had held three leaders. That was something. Although part of him missed ruling with his smaller painted ally at times.

@[Midas] and @[Bucephalus]. Also we would like the HF crafter's too! We would like a small item made :D

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

Free. I was free. Bucephalus was broken, if only for a little while. Too much had been hurled at him, at me, and it had cracked him. Morrigan, she had been the catalyst. My spars with Gaucho further widened the seams. And now that my son was born... I was free. It wouldn't be for much longer, already i can feel him sliding over me, trying to regain control. Trying to pull me back so he can show his face to the world with a distant and cruelty that i didn't have the heart to allow. Every day was a new war, a new fight in reining him in and trying to break free of my own prison, but he was stronger. How, i don't know. But we fought for control, day in day out.

Control control fucking control. It was always control with him, lies and deceit. I tried, i fought the coldness, the distance, daily with all the fiber of my spirit. But i had fooled myself into too good of a trap, had wrapped myself so firmly in my lies that part of me had begun to believe them. And my weakness and fear had led to the alternate one that called himself 'Bucephalus'. Now i was his 'concience', his alternate personality. It was so fucked up i wanted to scream.

But right now, in this moment, i could care less about the daily war within myself. I was as high as a cloud, a grin of delight pulling at my lips as I flew beside Gaucho. I knew he couldn't see me, so i took advantage of his blindness to...well frolic. I soared above him and dove, then tucked wing and spiraled before catching myself and flying back up to his side, wings laboring from my antics. I wanted to thank him, honestly, for without his fights driving Bucephalus into such a rage that i could take over... well i wouldn't be here, alone with my thoughts and able to do as i wished.

My Sultan begins to descend, and i follow him. This time i do not land as fast and sudden as usual(this was a diplomatic meeting after all, so courtesy is pretty much forward in my thoughts), instead with all the grace i could muster. Which, blowing my own horn, is quite a bit. I pull the grin from my face, but cannot stop the restless rolling of my weight from side to side. I still the movement as much as i can, well aware that constantly moving was a...queer thing in Helovia. But i couldn't help it. Okay, well i could, i just choose not to. Choose. Oh sweet freedom.

Gaucho calls out for Midas, and my lips twitch. Finally i could meet the man that looked closest to myself on my own terms. I'd still be formal, as chafing as that was(One thing Bucephalus got right was his politeness...when it suited him). He knows what we're doing here at the Falls, and he's none too happy about him.

But fuck him. Fuck. Him. I was free, and i could be Chancellor, be the Morningstar i should be, without him causing the trouble he plans.

Midas
Perched high above on a scouting overhang it didn't take me long to notice a pair of desert folk striking hoof outside my land. Sunkissed pinions unfurl and fill with cool northern air as a son of heaven trustingly places fate to the caress of Helovia's most unpredictable lover. Fina plunges ahead of me, with an alabaster shadow trailing close behind. Those two (very) different sisters had formed a rather tight bond despite their colliding personalities.

Once I'm close enough to be seen and heard, a welcoming smile slips upon both shallow tips -- my delight is evident, even before I've touched down, "Hail brethren," the heavy rhythm of windbeats in a backstroke is drowned by the sheer force of wet thunder. Fina chortles a prudish greeting and Neve answers with a gleeful (out of tune) chirp. I land a comfortable distance from the Dragon governors as both companions take their accustomed place across my ivory kissed rear.

Below, a noticeable flash of color spreads in the wake of each firm step, it glides passively into the moist turf before disappearing to start anew. "Is all well?" Traces of concern slide into my tone, though tis practiced study to see that neither of them appeared weary or otherwise strained from travel. Guacho for whatever reason had brought his dark skinned chancellor; the one who could pass as my son by appearance. A fellow was often stalking the undercoat of Threshold. Bottomless gaze slides expectantly between the two before settling on the bulk of a man I'd spent battle blood with.

GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
It didn't take long, although Gaucho wasn't surprised. Midas was never one to leave his borders unattended or unwatched. Likely there had been some cry - some sort of notice of their arrival - that had been passed onto the Czar. Gaucho was both pleased with his brother's reinforcements here as well as jealous. If he could tell Midas of Thranduil's escapades in the Throat what would he think? Still, the dun had no idea how the golden trickster had managed to get so far into his borders without an escort. Perhaps bringing that matter up to Midas now was not worthwhile. It did reinforce why they were here however. Fortification.

And for that he would need Midas' help.

"Hail brother." He repeated with genuine joy in his voice. It had been nearly a season since he had seen his painted comrade, but it always did his heart good to be reunited with him. Serving under the sun together was a bond that time alone could not break.

"This Bucephalus. Recent Chancellor of Dragon's Throat. Tandavi now our Sultana in Sohalia's absence. She went away to prepare for start of the Academy." Gaucho began, forcing his voice to sound light and unworried, revealing none of the internal struggle that still waged within him at the thought of Sohalia's disappearance. His time here was not meant to be wasted with idle chatter of his personal life. The two were here on business, and to business the conversation would be directed.

"When Gaucho last here he say he have plans for Throat. Plans are nearly complete. Sun God give Throat a task ... in order to complete task we need an item made by one of your crafters." He continued, not knowing what the Hidden Falls called their crafters, but knowing Midas would remember the word from the Throat and understand his meaning. "Not need to be big. Just small. Small sun stone perhaps out of simple rock."

Well, her children became independent rather quickly. They were off running around God knows where, so really, the only child she was raising was Edgar. The little thing just would not leave her alone, and he liked to tangle himself in her mane all the time. That was his "sleep" as he called it. It was like he owned her. She had enough of the antics though, and sent him off into the world of Helovia. He could explore a while why she attended to whatever business she would have to do today.

It was like roulette everyday, regarding her job of course. Either she was to craft, feed children, or go to the Threshold. The first one was the much preferred, and the latter two falling in near equal place. It wasn't long though before Edgar pushed his way back into her thoughts again, demanding her attention. He kept telling him there was some flaming weird stallion, and a yellow speckled pegasus. Oddly, the two descriptions seemed rather familiar. Midas was there too, apparently. Maybe he was in need of some sort of help. Considering if the speckled one was the one she thinking it to be. So annoying that the one encounter pissed her off so much as to automatically turn her bitter. Ah well, one must do their duty.

She walked along, plodding over to where they were. She was in no hurry to interrupt them. Surely Midas had some important leader business or something to say before she should poke in. So she stepped closer to the group once she had heard his faint voice die down. Upon looking at the two, she was right, they were both exactly who she thought they were. Gaucho was the one that was like friends with Oxy or something. He had that weird fire power that she was weary of, but in a sense was jealous of it. The other was Bucephalus, who was still stuck in her mind as nothing more than what she had met him as. And under those circumstances, it was not a good one.

"Gaucho." She said with a polite bow, curling her head down wards and bending forward. It was only polite to do so. It was a weird habit of hers, in the presence of power it was a habit she knew she'd never shake. "Bucephalus." She said, dipping her head down a little. She stepped back then, allowing Midas to speak. She was here merely for support, unless they needed something of the crafters. That would be exciting, considering any project was a fun one at this point. She had a little spark in her, because she believed to have heard that Gaucho was in need of an item. She still had been a little to far away to catch his words, but she wanted to ask. "You needed a crafter?" She queried, a few moments after she had fallen to stand a little behind Midas. It was evident that there was some excitement and amusement in her voice. What? She was a nerd, she liked building things.

We are not kept waiting for long. Midas descends from the sky, two unusual birds i've not seen before floating down with him before perching upon his back. "Well met Midas." I return his greeting with a dip of my head, then fall silent, listening to Gaucho as he speaks. I was here to...well 'debut' as Chancellor, so i left Gaucho to explain our purpose here. The tidbit that Tandavi had replaced Sohalia is interesting, and i tuck the name away for later use.

Soon the sounds of the woods being disturbed reaches my ears, and i turn my head to see a moderately familiar mare walk towards us. Elsa. She greets us civilly, and i won't deny that i wished i could peer into her mind to see if she thought ill of me for choosing Ampere's seduction over her friendliness. I'm not allowed to dwell on that, however, for she asks if we need a crafter. Guessing she didn't hear Gaucho's words.

"Aye, the Sun God has given us a task to obtain a crafted item from each herd." A smile twitches on my lips at her excitement. I did miss crafting myself, even though i only made Gaucho's bucket. It had still been exhilarating, wonderful to see the metal bend and shape to my will...even if it turned out lumpy and lopsided.

I fall silent, content to sit back and let Midas and Gaucho go at it. Soon enough it'd be my turn for meetings such as this; i was content to watch and learn. Gaucho may not be fluent in this language, but he could be diplomatic enough for me to pick up a few fresh pointers. After all, he did diffuse the tension between Basin and Throat.

Guacho speaks without break and with smooth transition. Despite our native tongue not being his first language, the fellow had over passing years developed a strong framework by which to operate passable diplomacy. I nod toward the gilden fellow in his company. Both brows drift together when he mentioned his pale colead and mate on absence for her academy. Word had traveled down the grapeline that yet more death had been reaped in the wild -- yar, I made note to say a silent prayer for her safe return.

The intent on this visit however isn't one of a personal nature. He asks for aid in a task set to him by the Sun, wordless I nod again and glance to the entrance behind us to see Elsa descending the stone stairway. Yar, perfect timing. She steps toward our gathering with eyes brimming toward curiosity. "Aye," my lips curve, adding voice to Bucephalus, "Would ye use thee talent to form a stone representing a depiction of the sun?" She was on the mend from birthing twins into this world, but I felt certain this task would be well within her abilities.

Speaking of.

Did Oxy fancy watching his children? They didn't appear to be in the company of Elsa, nor had enough time passed for the little sprouts to trail off alone. Neve was all but hopping up and down on my spine with anticipation, she clinched and unclenched her talons gently against my fur. An excited squeak followed in an attempt at capturing the frost born companions attention.

Elsa. He had liked the mare since he had first met her. Perhaps it was simply because Oxy had sent her to their little rendezvous alone, and she had done it. How many would have seen the likes of Gaucho and simply run off? She could have said she got lost, or couldn't find him. But she hadn't. She had appeared with all of the appropriate caution that his physical appearance demanded. Besides, something told him that her magic was likely well matched against his own if not in strength, but in type.

"Elsa." He offered, his nose pushing inwards in greeting, though his head did not move quite so much as hers did.
"Yes. Need crafter." He confirmed. Had he known Elsa was one of their crafters? Possibly he did. Though given the murders, the amount of promotions and change within his herd, he forgave himself for temporarily forgetting.

Getting this item from the Falls would likely be one of the easiest. He doubted the Edge would give Tandavi and Amaris much grief - Tandavi was the relative of someone who had ruled there once ... wasn't she? And Amaris? Maybe the dragon child shared some of that blood as well - he didn't know. Either way, they had always been on neutral ground with the Edge, and their painted Queen seemed to enjoy commerce. The Basin however ... that would be an entirely different story. He would send all of his unicorns there - surely if any, they would have the best chance of receiving something from the icy North.

"How things here?" Gaucho inquired, knowing nothing of the death of their previous leader or the promotion of Ghost, the mare they had met before. The falls seemed ... so secluded. Did they ever venture out of their waterfalls and trees? When was the last time Midas was in the Throat? Did he miss it?

The more she stood there, the more uncomfortable she was with the testosterone. It'd be nice to have a female walking around and greeting others for a change. So many men, although she had grown used to it over the time she spent here. Midas being there was some sort of relief, but the other two were still merely acquaintances at best. Even Midas wasn't exactly her BFF.

She listened intently as the spoke, all agreeing that they were in need of a sun stone. Odd, why would they need that? The question lingered on her tongue but it eventually faded into the back of her mind. It wasn't her business anyways. Midas had asked a favor of her, so she'd do it. She trusted him at least that much.

Bowing for a moment she excused herself over to a boulder no more than a few yards off. It wasn't small, so she knew that cracking off a more workable piece of stone would be the best. The ice snaked up from the ground underneath a corner of the boulder. It creaked and scraped, but suddenly the force of the ice shattered through the boulder, leaving a small portion of it for Elsa to work with. Hopefully the sound didn't interrupt their talk. A sun was simple enough. Thus, the crafting began. It wasn't long until a smooth circular stone was lain out before her. The edges and malformations crushed up to dust around it. Carefully, she began to little detailing. The center bulged slightly out, like a bubble. The center of the sun. The rest was thin, and a little more was cut away until five rays were situated around it. Sure it wasn't as intricate as what she would've like to have done, but now was not the time to spend years on a small request.

Picking up the rock gently in her mouth, she brought it back over, laying it in front of Bucephalus and Gaucho. Hopefully they were okay with it. She was willing to do alterations, because it wasn't often others outside of the herd requested herself. It was a fantastic break from building the bleak frames of rooms and cells. "Will this suffice?" She asked tentatively looking between Gaucho and Bucephalus, then finally to Midas. Had she done okay?

My attention flickered to Midas when Elsa left to create the stone, ears pricked towards the painted man. I was curious to hear more of the Falls; i've met mostly other Throatlings and Edge members and a single Basin mare. But aside from Elsa, my interactions with Falls members was... well scarce.

In what feels like no time at all, Elsa returns bearing a stone sun, worn smooth and shaped beautifully. "It is perfect, thank you Elsa." I dip my head to the snowy mare before carefully picking up the item, studying my bags before setting for the satchel under my wing. It would be safest there. I settle it at the bottom, and then for good measure drop my head and pluck up grasses to stuff in the bag as cushion. Who knew what the winds would be like on our journey home?

Something nags at my mind, and i look back to Elsa, head tilted slightly. "No hard feelings about the Threshold, i hope?" I couldn't particularly blame the mare if she held some measure of distaste towards me. I did, after all, almost join her herd until Ampere's...'persuasion' changed my mind, but i could hardly be blamed. Elsa's politeness had been charming, but Ampere's wildness... well allure was everything.

Plus... as my gaze takes in our surroundings, i am, without a doubt, unsure of whether i would have thrived here among forest and stream. I am a man of sand and sea, of sun and wind. But it didn't stop me from wondering what would have happened had Elsa been successful.

The Sultan confirms their need; politely my mason stepped aside to fashion what they required. I watched the young mother trail off, admiration and appreciation gentled the hard worry lines on my face. Tis refreshing to see someone take time out of a busy day to accomplish a selfless task. Neve uses this momentary lapse in our conversation to chatter anxiously, attempting to catch the frosty eye of Elsa's male companion.

My brother broaches a question, aye. "We are fine," a reply that would've been less formal had we meet without so many unneeded ears close at hoof. "Birdsong brings new life," I turn to them, abandoning our crafter to complete her job without prying eyes hovering, "The warmth ushers us young additions," tis well known that the desert stag was no stranger to children, "yar, but even as life is given, some is taken." Tone is soft to mask the sharp pinch that constricts my heart, "We suffered a loss," the pink folds of my throat tighten, I try swallowing that sudden dryness away, "Seele died."

Thankfully I wouldn't have to dwell long before Elsa returned with a sunstone. She looked to me for approval, dark crown dipped into a passive nod but my attention is already sweeping the expressions of our company for a reaction of satisfaction or discontent. The chancellor seems pleased, he tucks the item away. Bottomless gems soften, "Thank ye, Elsa." I turn to her for a moment, offering the pale one a kind smile. Perhaps the most genuine one I'm capable of giving. Glancing toward Guacho I add, "Has Satanic Silk returned to the desert?" If so, he should have reported Africa's whereabouts.

GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
A broad grin parted Gaucho's lips as Elsa created what had been nothing before, into an emblem of the sun. The dun had never possessed crafting magic...he had always been firmly routed in the warrior stream, possessed only fighting magic. Sohalia had ... and Buce as well. What was it like, being able to created from nothing at all? All Gaucho knew of was destruction. Nothing of creation - save for his babies.

Tail swaying, he bobbed his head appreciatively as Bucephalus placed the stone into his bag. "Thank you Elsa."

Apparently Buce and Elsa had met before as well, for their conversation takes a turn to a conversation of which Gaucho had no knowledge of. It would seem they had met in the Threshold. Had his chancellor stolen a recruit from her? The idea made him chuckle softly to himself.

Turning to Midas, Gaucho nodded. Ahhh yes. Likely it was the same in all herds - the burst of life that always followed the arrival of Birdsong. It made sense, given that BirdSong offered the healthiest offspring, and yet the dun was always surprised to see so many younglings flailing about each spring. Gauch's mind thought of all the new additions that now roamed his sands, and his jaw clenched, ever more determined to finish this quest so that he might better protect them. As Midas mentioned Seele, the warrior's face softened slightly. Had he met Seele? Likely at some meeting or other, perhaps in the caves but ... her face was not memorable to him. He didn't even think the two had ever spoken.

"Ah. Gaucho sorry, Midas. " The WildFire offered. Did Midas' grief suggest that she was more than just a member of his herd? Gaucho couldn't tell - Midas did form attachments to those he knew, so perhaps it was nothing more than that. As he hadn't wanted to speak of Sohalia, he decided that he would not pry into this matter, offering a final bow of his head.

At the mention of Silk, Gaucho's jaw clenched again. The spy had arrived looking rather ... tattered and declared that he needed to leave for a time. To find himself or some such. Gaucho didn't know. The bat-winged creature had just gone. Nostrils flaring, Gaucho shrugged. "He returned briefly, then leave again.

During his encounter with Rasta, he had been told that Africa had returned here. However the dun didn't want the conversation to dissolve into personal matters, no matter how deeply he wanted to speak to the old Sultana. Why was she here? Why hadn't she returned to the Throat? Why hadn't she at least offered an explanation?

No. Go home. Finish this. He mentally reprimanded himself.

"Need to return to Throat. Must finish. Thank you Elsa. Midas." His stormy gaze with the help of Mara sought out each of their gazes, nodding with a genuine appreciation. Perhaps once his herd was safe he would once again return to the Falls to continue this discussion, to ask of Africa and perhaps Seele. But for now, more pressing matters were at hand.

"Come." He ordered Bucephalus gently. Retreating a few steps, the dun turned and cantered a few strides before launching his large body into the air.

Thanks so much guys!

His condolence is well received. I'd expected for a moment that Guacho might share further details on Silk, but the man was short on words and otherwise distracted. I didn't press the topic further, and he didn't offer anything more. A simple, but warm smile teased these dark lips up as he shifted to leave my home and finish what his patron lord demanded.

There would be time for idle chatter later. Eventually we would meet without the pressing need of dictatorship weighing our words and actions. One day we would stand as brothers of the sand, absent the embellishment of titles. Because, before we ruled these lands, our lives had been humble -- placed low before other leaders. The world had moved on since then. Kri, my mentor and various others. What would she say if that stout lady could see the children of her home grown to run the world for all their worth? Would she be disappointed?

The number of my days had been extended beyond comprehension. Perhaps I'd live to see Kri again, if she'd not already passed on.

"Better get accustomed to death," the suddenness of her words and intention startles me into glancing back to a set of pools that bore into me with more wisdom than I'd ever seen upon them before. "We will see much of it." Tis truth, but that didn't mean I wanted to hear it. "So says ye." I uttered shortly, Fina stiffened and clicked her beak, "So says ye also, if thee mind is still of value."
