And it's not a cry, that you hear at night -- It's not somebody, who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Was he confident in his decision to make Tandavi his Sultana? He wasn't entirely sure yet. The girl's promotion - like Bucephalus' - had been born out of a need. Was she the best candidate at the time for the position? She certainly was. Was she the best candidate period? Of that ... he was still undecided.

Sssssssshe good, Mara silently encouraged, liking the Fire Dancer's fire of both soul and magic. The girl certainly had potential, and she filled the gap left by Sohalia well. So what if she was untested? She wouldn't remain that way for long.

To the Island Gaucho returned; ever the Island, always the Island. The dun was sure that the culminations of the murders would be revealed here, for here it had began. Why did he think it would end here? He didn't know, he only felt certain that it would. Things in Helovia had a way of neatly wrapping themselves up that way.

Far below Mara alerted him to the presence of the girl who interrupted his thoughts. He still couldn't see, for the herd had not yet completed their quest, but as time dragged on he and Mara had worked out a system. The steel coloured snake had been in enough battles with her bonded to have some intuitive sense of what he was and wasn't able to discern about his opponents - she was slowly figuring out when he would need her eyes and when her mental flashes would merely be a distraction. It wasn't perfect, but the pair were learning together.

He had fought in this arena recently - with Bucephalus. The sand provided an easy way to identify where his opponent was which would be useful, for the overcast light failed to provide a crisp shadow of his Sultana as she moved below.

Descending without calling out to her, the Wildfire tucked his flaming wings against his flanks - shooting towards the ground like a hawk might after some small mouse. Currently he was coming at her from behind, although he was sure she would eventually hear him, or be alerted by some means and turn. His flaming wings fanned out from his sides as he neared the ground, beating hard and fast to slow his speed so that his body could transition easily from aerial dive to galloping on the sand. Using Mara's gaze, he focused hard and fast on the Fire Dancer, his blackened wings shifting ever so slightly to try and keep her before him. As his hooves touched down - perhaps 10 feet or so before the girl, one last beat of his wings sent an arc of fire heading towards Tandavi and Natraj, with Gaucho following swiftly in its wake.

The dun meant to try and body-check the Fire Dancer by throwing his left shoulder into her own left (assuming that she had in fact turned towards him - if not, he would be happy to feel the curve of her right thigh and flank against his skin). She was tall enough that his spikes might find and peel away her golden skin as well, though his intention was to send her skinny body skittering across the sands from the sheer force of his own, much bulkier mass.

He had come without warning, without asking if she was up for this, or in the mood. He had come with fire, and muscle, and bone. He had come as any threat would - regardless of your attitude towards it. If she was to be his Sultana she needed to be ready at any and all instants. All it would take is one to infiltrate their herd and challenge her. He didn't expect her to beat him, but he did expect her to hold fast.

If she crumbled now, he would know he had made a mistake.

Summary: Gaucho flies in the air behind her. He dives and lands on the ground, throwing an arc of fire at her and then tries to body check her (either her left shoulder if she turns to face him, or her right side if she doesn't).
