The night continued her cold embrace. Even though it was bitter, and sometimes painful, his relationship with the dark was one built on solid ground. She would always come to him, and so he would have some respite from the judgmental eyes that watched him like a hawk. They needed to sleep sometime, and while they were off in their dreams, Cerin found the time to live. It was a sad sight really, and a pitiful story to anyone who knew. No one did actually know, so all they could do was talk and whisper in the shadows about the boy who can't talk. Ironic that they choose the one who can't defend himself to pick on.
His green eyes flashed open at the subtle sound of movement somewhere in his vicinity. His body immediately tensed, the muscles rippling and aligning in the coils, ready to run. It was then that his eyes landed upon another; a girl younger than himself who seems to have wandered up here. He stood in the most quiet of silences, scrutinizing her every moment. The spotted girl seemed exhausted, as would anyone not accustomed to living in this time of day.
She stumbled around a little, not much, but for Cerin who was so accustomed to walking, he could see the subtle sway in her steps. The girl finally slows, and then collapses into a bed of heathers. He tilts his head, still watching her silently. Such an odd thing for a girl to be alone at her age. He had just been kicked into the world at about her age, so had she been alone the entire time? Did she have parents here in Helovia that just let her wander from them? So many questions he was plagued with once again. All he could do was let them go into the air as quickly as they came, for him assuming anything caused more problems than if he went in with an open mind.
It was then that her faint mutterings caught his ears. The spotted lady was crying. His heart ached in pain at hearing this. She had obviously come here to be alone, that made much more sense. If she was anything like him, than she came up here to escape the fake facade of society. Sometimes, it was too hard to pretend that everything was okay. Sometimes, your heart needed to hurt to feel better. He swallowed then, torn between approaching and offering his comfort, or leave and allow her to be alone as she might have wanted. At this point, either could work as it was obvious that she had paid no mind to his presence.
For a few passing moments, his mind debated back and forth what to do. She didn't smell of the sand and heat of the throat, so where had she come from? Well, at least then she could not weigh him down with hatred if she decided to reject him. A life cannot be lived unless one takes risks. Tentatively he made his way over, making it a point to not be quiet and moving slowly. Hoping she wouldn't run off, when he was only about a foot from where she had chosen to bed for the night, he reached his nose out, snuffing in a greeting. It was awkward, but the only way he could even begin to connect if she had the desire to forge any acquaintanceship.
His verdant eyes studied the small things. The way her wings looked so different from that of a normal pegasus, to every spot that was placed on her body. She was undeniably younger, for unlike him, she still had a gangly foal-like aspect to her. He had just grown out of that stage, and now was beginning to build into his height. Cerin pulled his muzzle back from her, realizing he had left it suspended close for a few lingering moments. She was pretty, and sadly, even as a boy, he cannot help but fall under the spell of those who possessed unique features.
