z è k l è Ma was the best fighter in the whole entire world, of course. So when she told him she was gonna gather all the soldiers in the Throat, it made perfect sense to him. Of course they would all come- who wouldn't want to learn from the best? He watched her fly away, remembering how she had told him to "Stay here,", and then quickly forgot, distracted by the water in the Oasis and a frog who examined the boy through enlarged, raised eyes. Zèklè stared at the frog. The frog stared back. Forever passed, and the boy finally blinked, sunbeam eyes giving into the strain for only an instant, but long enough. The frog was off, hopping along the Oasis' edge, and the colt was following, and then there was splashing and pursuit and the frog was swimming and the boy was not actually sure he could swim but he'd be damned if he let a frog get away from him! He was Zèklè, son of Ampere, and he would be bested by no beast of the water, not when he was a future lord of the air! Needless to say, when he finally returned to the gathering Ma had assembled he was rather wet, yet proud. He'd shown the frog, forced it into hiding like a coward, been brave in the face of danger and not backed down- just like Ma would've, he was sure. So he held his shrub of a tail high as he walked among the Grown Ups, stopping to shake off excess water right next to a bay mare who was much less pretty than Ma, before bounding up to stand beside the Gladiator. Zèklè was so proud of his Ma just then. The best fighter, the prettiest ever, the smartest. One day he'd be as good a fighter as her- or close, anyway. "'M Zèklè!" he announced to the assembled crowd. "'An' I'mma be a wa'ior, too, when 'm growed up!" |
