As strong as the seas are stormy.</style>

Ah, the beauty of being wanted. Her name had begun to grow, though Hotaru was genuinely surprised to see how quickly. Gull had been her favored target, but outcasts were just so paranoid sometimes! Still, it was amusing to see others glance at her suspiciously as she walked in their midst. And yet she was thriving, despite their wariness, for they were simple-minded little things that could not comprehend the force of her being. Still, there were...loose ends that had to be tied up. Preferably burned away, but she knew such a thing was not a possibility. Her encounters with Thranduil always left a sour taste in her mouth, to recall them. She would still much rather shove her horn through his ugly face than listen to him, and he was a damned fool if he thought his higher rank meant he could order her around. Oh, no. Hotaru's respected for ranks only went so far, and she would not be demanded around like a puppet for his entertainment. No, she was a queen, and she would not bow to his arrogance.

Still, though she could easily defend herself, he had kept Gull off her back. She had to settle things with the clingy bastard, as much as she did not want to have that particular encounter. A harsh snort escaped her and she kicked mindlessly at a clump of snow, watching it skitter and sprinkle upon the expanse she hadn't yet ruined in her passing. If they weren't both so self-serving, perhaps they could have been something like friends. A devious smile curled her pretty lips. Perhaps they could have ruled together, for surely they would be unstoppable if they cared to actually team up. Still, he seemed to subconsciously echo her sentiments regarding giving up power, so it was an unlikely prospect.

A part of Hotaru respected the annoying little shit, because he was just as good as she was, and she could appreciate his flare. Regardless, he had attempted to chain her, order her around, and that Hotaru could not forgive.

Beneath the weight of her emotions, Alice whined, confused. Hotaru paid her no mind. She moved to standd beneath the boughs of her parents tree, a rare glimpse of pain in her eyes as Alice sniffed at the base of the glittering magical machination. Hotaru would not be caught laying down when Thranduil appeared, and so she remained standing, idly pressing her flank against the oddly warm wood. He would meet her, she was sure of it, but she was still sour with the mere idea of thanking him for something she damn well could have done herself.

She supposed she'd just have to bite the bullet and suffer through his arrogance.

A small fawn dashed onto the scene first. His youthful legs springing like a butterfly about the rocks, and his cloven hooves holding him steady like a mountain goat. Oh how happy that little black spotted fawn was! The warm air was FINALLY reaching up here, and even though ice and snow still littered the ground the babe could not be happier to have spent a time down in the valleys. Now though of course they were returning to the snowcapped mountains, but even that couldn’t damper his happiness. It was a plural. Here coming after him was the golden. His body full at ease in this place. No one would dare mess with him here. The golden had literally climaxed in this place. He was the king, whether official or not. And if anyone did dare challenge him on that, the circlet about his head would see him through. All in all, he had every reason to be smug.

Though that thing which danced in front of him sure didn’t make it easy. Having come over from the beaches the gold did near growl at remembering his encounter with the dark devil. His humor had not been enjoyable, but it was worth the effort. Now it was time for home, before he set off for the Veins. After so much travel lately the gold felt the need to return to this fortress.

Haldir spotted her first. His small body slamming to a halt, with eyes wide and ears forward. The golden noting the change stopped as well and followed the babe’s gaze. There under two trees was the pink spy. Or at least that’s what everyone seemed to call her. With a grin growing on his face the golden moved towards her. “Hotaru.” Seeing the golden relax and walk on the fawn danced across the snow. His eyes wide to see this new creature, and such an unusual color too! She looked just like the flowers down in the lowland. Trotting up the rocks the fawn makes it there first. He wags his little tail behind him as he looks her over. She was ever so pretty!

The golden was not so inclined to think of her that way. She was pretty of course, but he was not always so thrilled to see her. The recent circumstances though made it much more bearable. It was just the other day when he blocked her from being stolen away from them. It nearly brought a chuckle to his lips to think of it. So it was in the nicest way possible the golden stops just under the two trees and spoke, “What an absolute surprise….What’s new?” He was in a bit of a good mood if you hadn’t noticed. Though the beach had been a terrible headache, seeing her reminded him of how many wonderful things were going on. How he saved her ass, how he told her off that time at the murder scene (that was his favorite), how he followed her to the Throat. Good times, good times.

Hotaru
and Alice

Though young and full of the same ignorant naivety that all youth possessed, Alice's nose was far more attuned to the shifts and subtleties of the earth and its inhabitants than Hotaru's. Her little head lifted, a pathetic rumbling sound echoing in the cage of her chest as she turned to stare out into the distance. Hotaru lifted her own, tiara held high and divergent irises alert. Alice had yet to let her down in regards to warnings, and she trusted the pup's instincts. On the horizon, against the glare of the flagging sun, a golden form advanced. Hotaru had chosen her parent's tree both for comfort and security, but also because the Arch was one of the few places Basiners almost always had to tread when entering or leaving. It was the best place to catch Thranduil, grudgingly give him her platitudes.

Ahead of his cloven-hooved steps came bounding a fawn of some sorts, and it reminded her so much of Raeden for a moment, the brief bitter reunion they'd had at the Basin borders, that her chest hurt. It was too close, too intimate and painful. She kept her face tight and controlled, for even though Thranduil was distant and her features concealed by the lack of clarity closeness brought, there were things Hotaru would rather not reveal physically. Even to herself.

Alice whirled and ran through the snow, tripping and fumbling on tiny puppy paws towards the odd new creature approaching. Jovial, tiny barks pierced from her tongue out into the air. Hotaru was slammed with a sudden sensation of curiosity, frustrated need, and delight. Rolling her eyes to herself, Hotaru popped her hip off the warm bark and strode in tandem towards the sun-kissed brute. She would not be cornered. The she-wolf was not so foolish as to believe that Thranduil was harmless, herd association notwithstanding.

Her name slid like butter and silk from his tongue, and she cocked her hip and tilted her head, a playful smile on her lips. They were interlocked in an intricate dance, one only they could see and participate in. Whirling round and round and round to a music meant only for their ears. It was exhilarating, even with nothing more sliding from their lips than titles and given names. "Thranduil," was all she called in returned greeting, awaiting his true arrival on long limbs. He dwarfed her, as he moved closer. Hotaru had always been petite, and though it made her skin crawl and itch for him to shadow himself above her, she held her tongue. It made her feel small, frail. Hotaru was a queen amongst men, a damsel turned maleficent maelstrom. He made her feel wrong, and in turn, it made her desire to reach for the dagger hidden in the folds of her dress.

Eyes flickered to Alice, an indication of what, exactly, was new. One of many things, though Alice was the only one she would willingly share with the sneaky git. "Let's not dance, dearest," she purred, eyes like a flash of feline's in the dark just before her prey went down in a spray of blood and a choked off scream. "You kept Gull off my ass. This is merely a...formality." Inclining her head slightly, she cursed her meager height in comparison to him, and slowly struck out one leg to circle him. Slow and deliberate.

A sigh escaped her, clucking softly to herself.

"If only we weren't both so self-serving," she murmured, a look of pity on her beautiful face. "You would have been quite the business partner," was the sighed intonation that followed. A delicate shake of the head and a tilt of her hind hoof and she was back to regarding him, all hawk and hellfire. "That was all I needed you here for. I can take care of myself, I do not need your protection. But nonetheless, I thank you for it." Were she a lesser woman, perhaps her voice would have been stiff and cordial, gritting out each word and inflection with her reluctance to speak it. For though she was reluctant to say the words, Hotaru would not show how much she despised being at his mercy. She had won his little game, his chiding only infuriating her and driving her to steal the next clue of murder all the sooner. As much as Hotaru hated to admit it, he drove her. Forward and up. Her rival, not that she found him particularly deserving of the title sometimes.

The golden altogether quite amused by all this. Of course though, Haldir was getting the real action here. The fawn, dancing across the snow balked with a small puppy came tumbling out towards him. Frozen in place the babe leaned back, but a smile growing on his lips before he dashed forward. Twisting around the puppy the babe playfully tried to head-butt the pup. A bleat of happiness jumped from his lips, earning him a glare from the gold before the twin horned turned back at hearing his name. As Haldir continued to dash about the pup and persuade him into a game of chase, the golden did his best to ignore them. That fawn would need to learn soon enough to stop messing around. That issue though would have to wait until later. Sighing the gold’s lips turn up a smile for the pink girl who also darted her eyes from the pair of pathetically innocent playing babes. Seems they both were wanting in that department.

Oh but she wants to move on, to get straight to it. Tasseled tail flicked by his hocks. Pity, this was always his favorite part. The dance of emotions and lies. Still, thinking of the cave beyond this Arch and the rest it promised did make the proposition seem more appeasing. The less time he spent here, the faster he could rest. Oh but he loved a good conversation! Though she was being, well, herself about it. Her usual oh so charming self. A formality. Earth eyes roll and golden head shakes, letting even a small chuckle slip out. There she starts to circle him, and the golden smiles in spite of it. That was usually his job, but hey he was all for letting women try things out. So the gold stood still, only his ears following her round. He says nothing to her …was that supposed to be a thank you? Let her carry this where she wanted. The golden was here just for the entertainment.

She was right though. They would make a fabulous team. Yes it was a pity she had the tendency to be a bitch. Another low soft chuckle slips out. Then she gets to the brunt of it, coming back in front of him. The golden’s face, relaxed and slightly tilted considers her in the fullest amusement. All she needed him for? Oh she was getting a bit big for her britches. Still the gold was in a good mood right? So he only smiles and shakes his head again. At least she finally got out that thank you. Actually that surprised him a bit. He supposed she had enough skill to lie through it. “A thank you? My how big of you.” The golden’s smile fades slightly. “I don’t need you either, but….” Here it comes, he was going to say thank you and voice her worth. “A good laugh is so hard to come by these days.” Yeah, that’s the golden for you. In fact he demonstrated it now, letting a small chuckle slip out again.

The golden seems to give though. “Oh come now Hotaru, take a joke.” He straightens himself, trying to contain the smile still running wild on his lips. “If you weren’t good at what you do I would have sent you packing ages ago.” It was actually the truth. Though the gold wasn’t sure he had that power…oh well she didn’t know that. “In fact, you’re the only one with much sense around here.” The gold seems to fall into a reflective state, thinking back to nearly a year ago when he first journeyed up these slopes. “The…administration, feels too many words lead to failure, but you, and I, have proven the opposite. You especially, with your stout in the Throat. Especially that conversation with Bucephalus. I really enjoyed that one, hard not to jump in myself.” He teased at his powers, but only a tease. It nearly made him start laughing all over again, but he managed to keep it in control. “Pity their…prizes are blocked from us now for it.” The golden waits though, his eyes glancing to the two babes that still play. Haldir completely oblivious to the pair. “So I’ll ask you again…” Those earth eyes look back to the pink girl. “What’s new?” And he wasn’t asking about a new hairstyle or dress. Though, if she was a good little spy, which the gold knew her to be, he wasn’t he’d get much.

Hotaru
and Alice

Like real children did, the two disregarded the interspecies factor of their introduction and jumped straight to the playfulness their ages dictated. Neither seemed to realize the reality of their situations, nor the tension that thrummed along like a struck cord between their masters. They knew only friendship, and for a moment Hotaru envied the ease with which they dissolved into their mindsets of ease and companionship. She watched briefly as Alice met the fawnling step for step, their heads butting together and sending the fluffy pup down into the snow, bowled over by their size difference. Yet, just as springy as real children, the little one jumped to her paws the moment her body wriggled into equilibrium, happily pursuing Haldir across the snow. Hotaru snorted softly to see them so carefree. It would have to be remedied eventually, but in that moment, Hotaru had far greater things to deal with. Speaking of...

The golden remained still beneath her circling, allowing her eyes to rove and strip him down to ligaments and bone without complaint. Hotaru raised a brow, an easy smirk curling across her lips. Huh, maybe he could get a couple points for that as well. Still, she simply did not have the patience for the wordplay she generally engaged in. What was the point when they both employed the same tactics? Again, it merely would have been a formality. They would have seen right through each other, and while Hotaru would have cherished it any other time, it also would have been a good use of her time in another situation. And Hotaru loathed wasting her time.

Ah, yes, there was that disgusting arrogance. Hotaru rolled her eyes so hard they nearly ell from her head. At least she wouldn't have to deal with his larger than life persona, as if he deemed her someone to order about, to rule. It was he who wore shoes too big, dressing up in Deimos' clothes. Or was it Ophelia's? Thranduil would look oh so pretty in a dress in heels. But then he deemed to threaten her, and she smiled, all blades and blood and promise.

"Sorry sweetheart, your balls aren't that big," she said sweetly, as if they were merely conversing about the weather, or perhaps their latest kill. "You don't have that kind of power. Trust me, you're not the only one with connections." The bitch happily cocked her hip, far from intimidated, and smiled plainly at him. He may have Deimos, but Hotaru had so much more. She had done far more for the Basin than he had. She had given them their greatest foe, wrapped up all pretty. She had secured peace with their greatest enemy, she had Ophelia's graces and allowances. Their minor power difference was...irritating, but not something Hotaru could not change. And she would, before she was forced to neuter the poor pup.

Knowing he had ridden upon her achievement was no big deal, for in the end she'd been the one to orchestrate their truce and treaty. And in time the island news came from Gaucho himself, so Thranduil was late to the party once again. So instead she smiled, this time a bit more genuine - if that were possible for her - and allowed him his pretended triumph. It was cute, after all. Amusing. Like a child.

"Truly it is a shame. They have so many pretty things I'd simply die to have," she sighed mournfully, one of the few things she regretted about being the one to connect Ophelia's and Gaucho's hands in that manner. He pried, as he always pried, and she batted her eyes exaggeratedly and cooed in response. "Now, now, Thranduil, a lady never shares on the first date," she purred playfully. "We both know we have aces, and since we already established that you have little rule over me..." trailing off she giggled, tilting her head to the side and turning to walk away, sashaying truly because what she'd come to do was done and she had no need of him or his curiosity any longer. Wasted time and all that, after all. Glancing over her shoulder she smirked at him. "I'm sure you'll find out soon enough."

You can have him say something to keep her there, respond at your leisure, or let it die! I know it's old I'm awful ;-;
