Ampere & Zèklè
She had roused him from his sleep in the sands before the sun was due to set. It began with a giggled whisper to hurry, that she had a surprise for him, and then she'd run off, enticing him to chase by lingering just ahead of him. In good spirit, she let him catch her a time or two, playing until weariness filled their legs and love their hearts. She was sure however, to keep them on track even as they frolicked, unwilling to miss the glory of the oceanic sunset.

Breathless, she paused at the line where the surf met the sand, head lifting into the sea breeze with a warm smile. "This is my favorite place," she murmured, eyes fluttering shut beneath black lids as her mane danced in the salty breath of the surf. "It's beautiful, don't you think?" Her head turned towards him, the blue of her gaze reflecting that of the waters which moved endlessly. Beyond the sun was beginning its bloody decline, clouds seemingly pulled into the end of the horizon with it, colors swirled upon them in all their glory. "Peaceful." She breathed deep, a smile pressed permanently to her lips as she turned to watch the sunset.

It wasn't often that she had time for herself, but it was important to make it so. She wanted to impart that lesson upon him, even if not directly. Life would always be chaos, so you had to be willing to steal some serenity, even if only a couple of minutes worth. It did wonders for the soul.
Reaching out to touch his neck with her plush muzzle, Ampere breathed warmth on him. In the process her knees knelt down to the sands, her rear soon following as she lay in the folds of the beach. It was measurably cooler on this beach, and the shoreline was full of a different sort of softness, the grains finer, smoother, worn down by wind and water.

"Have I told you the story of the Sun and the Moon, little lightning?"

"'But'm sleeping," he mumbled grumpily, his tongue weirdly heavy and the taste of sleep stale in his mouth. But his protests were nothing more than words, and the boy was quick to rise to his feet, curiosity winning a war with apathy- surprises were never to be ignored!

Especially when it was just them, just him and Ma and the rest of the world could suck it. She was always so busy, and even though Zèklè knew she had to be, that it was because she was the best warrior in the herd and so she had to help everyone get better, he still missed her something awful when she wasn't there. The boy valued their shared time more than he would ever admit; the adoration he felt for his mother was deep and impassioned. He idolized the electric mare, for she was the center of his world, and really, what else could he ever need? As he chased her, laughing, the boy did not want, did not yearn for a father, for a brother, for a friend. And as the evening fell the boy felt bright, alive and young and happy and free.

Zèklè was winded by the time they reached the beach, but of course he wouldn't let Ma see that. Instead he super subtly stepped closer to the blue mare, letting his body lean against hers, finding his spot tucked within her wing- "Yeah!" he agreed, sunbeam gaze fixed on the distant horizon, bottle-brush tail flicking enthusiastically against soft thighs. He had never seen a sunset like this, so vibrant, so perfect, so peaceful yet alive. The salt stung his nostrils, making him sneeze, and he turned to his mom with a grin on his face. It did not take him long to get his second wind.

"Can y'ever get all the way to the end- like, y'know, and touch the sun?" Zèklè had never seen the sun this close- well, except maybe when the SUN came and visited the herd, but that was kinda different, right? The sun and the SUN weren't the same thing at all, were they? He frowned, caught in the trouble of this new conundrum. The boy's face folded in concentration; he reached with a foreleg to paw at the sand, but was stopped by the warm breath of Ma on his neck.

He looked up, and smiled.

Ma made everything better.

He flopped down beside her, attentive and alert. "No!" he cried in response to the question, though he would have said that even if she said yes- he was always interested in one of Ma's stories, because of course Ma's stories were the best. Eagerly the boy settled into the sand, searching the sand for interesting objects but nonetheless listening, enjoying, careless in his youth and naive in his delight.

Ampere & Zèklè
"Maybe some day you can try," she murmured truthfully to the boy's inquiry. Who was she to stand before him and tell him he couldn't do anything? "You'd have to be faster than the whales though, and the clouds, and the wind. Because no matter how fast you seem to run, you can't ever seem to catch the sun... but maybe no one has been fast enough yet, hmm?" She proffered him as wink as she settled into the sand, wings loose at her sides as her mane danced in the breeze. She paused to build the moment, and to gather her breath for what would be a detailed story.

"Well, the story of the moon and the sun might help your with your question," she began, teasing the scruffy mane that sprouted on his slender neck as she leaned in close to whisper. "It all began when the four gods were making Helovia. The God of the Earth claimed the land as his, wanting to be close to his mortal children and all the creatures he tended. The God of the Spark claimed the heavens, where the beyond world exists and time is woven into existence. That left just the God of the Sun and the Goddess of the Moon left, but they both wanted the same place, the sky." Ampere glanced up at the limitless plane of blue, admiring it as the sun cast his last colors before night fell.

"The sky was so lovely, that even the other gods had to take some part of it. That's why rain falls down from it, as part of the Earth God's touch, and why storms snarl with lightning, all due to the God of the Spark. What the brother Sun and sister Moon were really arguing about though, was who owned the sky." Here Ampere made somewhat of a face, because she still didn't really think anyone owned the sky. Of all the heavenly bodies, it seemed the most free, and that was why pegasus were born - but that was a different story.

"The Moon Goddess tried to claim the sky by saying her element, the wind, was the most obvious choice. And so she sent her breath across the land the Earth had created, helping to shape it. Her other brothers nodded in agreement, and for a time the world was plunged into eternal darkness. Yet the plants did not grow, and the animals froze. The Sun God stepped forward after a time, asking for his siblings to come to their senses. He said that life needed flame, for it's heat and its power was what fueled the muddy golems of the Earth. The other two brothers agreed, and so the world was cast into endless day. At first all seemed well, yet the continuous light did not give the plants time to rest, and they withered in exhaustion, while the eternal heat wasted the animals away." Surely her lightning could understand that part - enduring Tallsun in the Dragon's Throat was no easy task, even with a night fall.

"The Earth and the Spark finally stepped in after a time, calling order to their family and the realm. They proposed that the Sun and the Moon lead together, as neither were suitable alone. The sky was certainly vast enough to hold them both, but as you can imagine, their pride and their differences stood between a peaceable agreement. They had little choice though, and so the Sun settled into his daily throne, and the Moon into her nightly one.

The Moon was sly however, and still felt herself best suited, so during the day she would creep into the Sun's domain, casting her shadows everywhere. Because of her, we have the cool shade to hide in when we become too warm.

The Sun was furious, and in spite he galloped into her midnight court, his flaming hoof-steps leaving behind the stars we see today, while he plunged some his brilliant light into the moon itself. So it was that he created starlight and moonlight, and in this way, even at night, there is always light to guide us."
Ampere smiled down at her son, nosing his neck with a puff of warm breath, a testament to the internal fire all life carried, just as the Sun had said.

"The Sun and the Moon argued terribly about that, but the Earth stepped forward, thanking the Moon for her shade, and the Spark appeared to appreciate the assistance the stars had in telling time. The Sun and the Moon were flattered, and had to accept each other's help and mark in their kingdom amid the sky. Still... they fight, which is why the moon goes all dark sometimes, why some stars are kicked out of the sky, why there is more darkness during Frostfall; why the sun at a certain time of day removes all shadows, why there is more light in Tallsun.

The Moon chases the Sun away at sunset, and he goes in such beautiful fashion, turning the sky red with war, so that we won't forget him come night. Then, when the moon has shone long enough, the Sun chases the Moon away at sunrise, and he lifts his head with the golden glory of a new day dawning. They are balanced, and the world cannot exist without either of them.

You will find the world always has balance little lightning, because there is never one thing that is complete. It's why we need all the elements, all the plants, all the animals, all the ranks... why we need each other. All of us are good, and all of us are bad, it all depends on how we choose to balance what we are, what we have, what we do. You must come to decide on your own, what is important to you."

Gently Ampere reached back to one of her loosely extended wings, lips pressing along the shafts of the primary plumage as if she preen. When her head next turned around however, she gripped one of her long flight feathers, its black hues broken up by bands of blue on the topside. "You are important to me," she murmured, leaning out to gift her feather to her son. "I want you to always remember me, like starlight in the night, or shade in the noon." If he'd accept it, her magic could easily tie it permanently into his mane, like those she carried in hers.
