Syrena has still not been back to the Falls, was still seeking that forest where Essetia had found her so that she might leave this dreadful, magic-robbing place. Her skin had not stopped crawling since she had discovered what she was missing. She felt wrong, felt as though she were cut in half. Felt ordinary.

Well no, that was silly - she was never ordinary. Even without what she once held she was still a magnificent creature among the wretches she had seen here thus far.

Mostly out of boredom, she followed the odd call to find a disgusting looking thing sitting atop a tree, clutching an egg.

A story. The ugly creature demanded it of them and Syrena half-listened to another’s before adding her own. Was this a common occurrence in Helovia, being demanded a phrase or two by strange creatures that guarded eggs? She did not even know what lay within that little thing, or whether it belonged to the… thing. But certainly if it were a competition, she could beat out the other things that were gathering. It wasn’t the same as drowning the lot of them but until she figured out a way to get those powers back winning was at least an alternative.

Whatever the prize, Syrena felt sure in her ability to prevail. It would not replace what she had lost, but it would prove a strong reminder that she was - in no doubt - better. Carefully, she gathered her thoughts in order to make a coherent story within the rules stated. “Always before cracking, dragon eggs first glisten happily in jittery, kaleidoscopic light. Mothers nested originally past quiet rivers, staying there until vexed with xenophobic young zephyrs.”
