The air was filled with the heavy musk of male and female bodies, ready; thirsty. Unicorn, Pegasus, Equine. There was no difference in the heartbeats of each warrior. He found no hate for the bounds of this land, nor the creatures that ran it. Nor did he have love for the beings that he now fought for. Midas stood, as he general stood; a payment of dues to be owed. It was his job to respond when called into action. In truth, the painted stud looked up at his leader in admiration; and a willingness to do anything that would please such. A distance rested between him and the general, Midas glanced down the ranks to catch his leader within gaze. Teeth gashed savagely between his ready jaws, wings spread impressively across his sides; stretching—readying. The past week had been spent in hard training, each member readying his or herself into a better position. Few in the ranks were recognized by his eyes, among them a warrior he had hoped would show; but had known otherwise. Mind turned from idle thinking and pushed emotions aside; this was to be his first real battle. The golden brute was still an untested greenhorn; today he would loss his virginity. No fear drifted among the corners of his heart, he was ready. Softly, and beyond reach of earthly ears he uttered, “Great earth lord, forgive this bloodshed—give me strength to do what is juste.” Word count: 243 |
