The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

The God of the Earth had chosen his patron who had proved himself worthy: Midas. Through noble actions and leadership, the painted pegasus had earned an honor greater than any had achieved before - until now. The God of the Sun would choose his champion today - one who had proven his worth time and time again and recently climbed to the apex of his power. Such feats would not go unnoticed, and they were worthy of the highest praised.

Fire, billowing strongly in the Dragon's Throat, erupted with the force of a volcano - without heat or damage. The pillar turned night to day over the island, brightening the evening sky and summoning the herd to witness this great honor. A cloak of flame plumed toward the sand, sliding back to reveal the God of the Sun, coat shimmering like burnished gold in the artificial daylight. Cloven hooves danced across the surface of the sand, never once puncturing the dusty surface.

There, he sought Gaucho, his achiever and champion, loyal and humble. A bright smile widened across his lips, and he exhaled a breath of pleasure, uttering the stallion's given name: "Gaucho the Wildfire, my friend..." he said, approaching the bay dun with the gentle sway of dear compatriots. "You have reached the pinnacle of your prowess in battle. I have watched you toil, pushing your body beyond limits and taking injury to hone your craft. Never before have I seen such ceaseless dedication and force of will, and you will be honored for your great accomplishment."

The God of the Sun looked across his expanse. "Look at what you have done here. Look at all you have done for your herd. Everyone has faults. Everyone will fail, but you have built a legacy that will transcend our very history. For that, Gaucho, I give you the honor of Ascended." He spoke, emphasizing the last word with a breathy whisper. Gods, the remaining two, arrived to bear witness. The God of Time offered his congratulations with a simple nod. The God of the Earth warmly greeted him, uttering his honors as well. The Moon Goddess? Well... she was not welcome in their time of celebration.

"Choose, my dear friend. Will you pass along this honor to your progeny? Or will you choose immortality?" The God waited with bated breath for the answer, deeply interested in the more delicate complexities his choice would reveal.

Gaucho first, then others!

At first the Sultan thought perhaps Meg was working on her magic. His feisty warrior had learned a season prior about her ability to force sunlight upon the nighttime hours, but as the daylight persisted for more than a few heartbeats Gaucho knew that this could not be the case.

No one was that powerful. No one but ...

Eruptions interrupted his thoughts; flames roared towards the daylight sky, burning heatlessly all that they touched, and turning the bloody sands of the Throat golden. A smile parted Gaucho's blackened lips as he watched the Throat roar to life with the power of their chosen deity. Many seasons past he had asked Midas to change the rules put in place by Kri, to no longer be content with mere tolerance of the God within the herd. He had asked then for the Sun God be worshiped by all who resided within the Dragon's Throat. The sense of pride and reverence that flooded his veins made that previous conversation seem so petty and unnecessary.

Looking around him now, Gaucho couldn't help but wonder how anyone could not pledge their fealty to such a powerful and wise creature.

Lifting off from the Oasis, the Wildfire flew towards the where the light seemed brightest; where the column of light bled the night from the sky. At his side Vorsa, the small phoenix chick glided with increased dexterity, her small body burning as she hooted her excitement. The chick had only seen the God of the Sun once before - on the Island - under very different circumstances. She could sense Gaucho's excitement, and the wonder and anticipation of it all flooded her small body. In his antlers Mara hissed at the small flying creature, using Gaucho's mind as a go-between to offer some amount of calm, although she could help but be infected by Gaucho's curiosity and excitement as well: The Sun God had never called the herd together in such a manner before.

Landing easily and elegantly upon the sands, Gaucho watched with apprehension as his deity moved with grace across the golden sands. Gaucho the Wildfire, my friend... A chill of pride swept through Gaucho's system as his antlered skull - a crown marked with symbols of his lord - lowered.

As the Sun God mentioned his dedication to honing his skills in battle, Gaucho merely nodded. It was not pride he felt now, only appreciation and the humbling offering of a loyal servant. When Gaucho had come through the threshold of Helovia more than three years prior, taken by Levi back to the Throat, he had known then that he would train endlessly to be worthy of the new family he had found. As his adoration and devotion to the Sun God grew, the golden deity became the motivation for Gaucho's self imposed quest to be the strongest, the best. Hadn't he extended the quest that the Lord had recently given him, where his senses were lost, just to prove that he could still be as useful to the God even when incapacitated?

Still, Gaucho couldn't but help to feel imbued with satisfaction. The Wildfire knew that the God looked over them, but that the God would have seen his training and taken the time to come down to their bloody sands to mention it rendered him helplessly incapacitated by his love for the God.

"Thank you. All for Throat, all for Sun God -" Gaucho might have fumbled to say more, had a word not suddenly resounded in his ears.

Ascended.

Gaucho had expected that the God give his thanks, but not this. As the other two Gods appeared, for once in his life Gaucho felt small, and not just because of his height in comparison with 2/3 Gods. That the Earth God could bring himself to bear the sight of Gaucho given what had transpired made the dun internally cringe. Closing his blue eyes, Gaucho nodded to each God in turn, allowing a sorrowful prayer of eternal apology ring out from his mind to the Earth God, should he want to hear it.

Choose, my dear friend. Will you pass along this honor to your progeny? Or will you choose immortality?

Looking to the Sun God, Gaucho answered easily and quickly. There was no question in his mind. Immortality was for the very stupid, or the very self-centered in Gaucho's mind. Everyone had their turn to serve and their time to die. He would not cling to life in this body, but would instead give the God's gift to his children so that they might spread the word of the Sun God throughout the future generations. All good stories had to come to an end, if only so that new ones could be told.

"Sun God already bless Gaucho's children -" Zenobia, Rhoa and Ivezho - perhaps even Zekle if Ampere was to be believed which he hoped she was (and, unknowingly, Hertz as well) - were all born with magic flooding their veins, and more or less healthy. "-Gaucho ask Sun God to continue, so Throat can live on in Sun God's image for years to come."

THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH!!

Ampere the Mother of Companions

She was on patrol when it first happened. An abrupt, brilliant light that pierced through the heavens, originating from the Throat. Having been a calm and peaceful night thus far, the solar display startled her so badly that Ampere nearly fell from the sky. When she finally regained her altitude she shot off with a burst of alarmed electricity, tearing across the sky on dark wings to whatever threat had infiltrated the land. She was sure everyone else had seen it by now too, and though her heart raced wildly, she wondered what sort of stealth attack this was.

Drawing upon the source, Ampere was not surprised to see Gaucho had already arrived. Even when he wasn't on patrol, he never stopped. What did surprise her was the presence of three deities. Sweeping her wings back, tail feathers spanning out, Ampere slowed and finally descended to the sands by Gaucho as he spoke with the gods. Whatever her feelings for the sultan, this was something of much greater weight and importance, transcending their mortal stretch.

Quietly she lingered in the background, a stoic presence of support while she listened in awe and wonder at what was transpiring between the holy siblings and the Wildfire. She mumbled under her breath in agreement in some areas, particularly in response to his battle fortitude and championship. It brought the ghost of a smile to her face, to hear and witness her sultan being honored, as she always had, as they all had. The Throat had prospered beneath his wings, flourishing in ways she had been unable to manage during her stint. She was thankful to him for all that he had provided, including her son.

As the honors quieted down and Gaucho was provided an opportunity at a gift, Ampere's ears perked. Like the gods, she was curious as to what Gaucho would choose, and what it might say of him. He did not hold them in suspense long, almost as if he had already posed such a question to himself before and found the answer, or perhaps there was never any difficulty to him int he choice. He selected his progeny over himself, something which surprised Ampere. In a world where selfishness appeared so often, she was unaccustomed to these rare moments of selflessness.

She lifted her head from its slight curl to her chest, blue eyes washing over Gaucho with newfound intrigue.
"Gaucho, the Ascended" she breathed.
