"Where brilliance is good and madness is better..."
Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

Kaj had hit his limit, the load which he could safely hold upon his shoulders. Even mountains were capable of crumbling into the sea, Gods capable of tears, of faults. His exhaustion was something he could no longer hide from his family, despite the valiant efforts he took to conceal his nightly terrors from their awareness. It was one of the blessed advantages to sleeping in solitude, where nobody was aware that said 'sleeping' did not transpire. He did not bother anyone when he awoke with a choked yell captured in his sea-glass throat, visible to all who could have been bothered to care to see how pitifully obvious it was that his nights were not spent in peace. His patrols had ramped up, their numbers spiking as he gave Protectors more and more patrols off, taking their spots if only to keep himself awake along the path. His knees ached, his hooves more so, but the pain kept him lucid against the insanity of his lack of sleep.
His heart was far more worn and battered in the process.
Fighting with Kahlua had taken his heart and smashed it upon the ground, leaving Kaj slinking back to retrieve it after he'd walked away from her in his fury, his regret. Losing the two brothers he'd always depended on the most, forcing down his secrets, his emotions regarding the fight and everything he'd lost - Resplendence had been too fragile in the aftermath of Quilyan's abandonment, he couldn't have gone to her. Losing Evangeline to Thor, who had reacted to him with anger, with prejudice and jealousy. Yet another who Kaj had let down, another failure to add to his ever-growing list. Then the Goddess, losing Archibald to the sorrow of his losses, helpless to aid him in his recovery. Unsure he would even welcome the Storm Bringer's advances when all the buckskin did was bring about further damage.
Then Destrier and Quilyan had waltzed back into the Edge, never deeming to seek out Kaj, never caring enough to spare him of the horrors he still faced. So he carried on, ever weaker, wondering whether it was appropriate for him to cry. His father, the bastard, had never allowed him that kind of release. It was something shameful, to be scorned, for a stallion to cry. Kaj had no doubt it was the truth, but he desired so deeply to just let it all go.
How he'd ended up at the medic's tent was beyond him, but his eyes were swimming with black dots. Vengeance for his ever-evasion of the sleep his body so needed. The king stumbled, making a racket even as he tried to be quiet. His soul yearned for the only companion he had left, broken heart piercing all his internal organs as the shards jostled about with his wandering steps.
"Zus!" he cried, voice broken with the promise of tears that he couldn't shed. Knees buckled and he swayed, lurching into the nearest tree to prop himself up. Praying to all the Gods that existed above that Resplendence was near, that she was where he'd thought she'd be. "Aardbei, alsjeblieft! Ik heb je nodig!" There was no way she could understand what he was saying, aside from the nicknames he so often used for her. But the cries were plaintive, and he hoped that she would come running, because he needed her. He was so broken, so ruined. She was supposed to be a doctor, right? Surely she could fix him?
She wanted to sleep and Rue had most definitely been making it difficult as of late. She was always wanting to do something. She was always moving. So, Quilyan had taken their babe for the night as of the mid-afternoon. And, Res had retreated to her canopy beside her garden. The sun had started to fade in the horizon and she had began to doze off into a sleep. A deep sleep. One that wasn't jostled by the sounds of cries or pain. No. Valiance was the one to sleep lightly tonight - in fairness for his bonded who was beyond exhausted.
So, the crashing and jostling hadn't woken Res up. Valiance had, instead, moved from his perch along her back and twirled out of the canopy - going to see what was causing all of the commotion. What he found was beyond words for the dragon almost in adulthood. Kaj was falling against a tree, trying to prop up his frame as his knees buckled. And the sound of his voice - it was breaking. Valiance cried to Res through the bond, and she groggily woke to hear the sound of her nickname. She stumbles to her feet, Valiance snagging the opening of the canopy just as Res pushes through.
Res nearly trips over herself, moving so quickly in the constant state of exhaustion from the child. Aye, but what she saw before her caused her more worry than any wound upon Kaj's frame could. Something had broken him so badly that he couldn't speak so she'd understand. Something had tore him apart to the brim of tears. Something had caused him the lack of sleep that could only be seen in the lack of focus in his eyes as he seemed to try and focus on anything
She pulls up beside him, giving no heed to the fact that he might desire personal space. No. They were family - he was her brother, regardless of blood - and he would take her doting care regardless of what was going on. She presses her maw up against his chest, shoving her side against his own after squirreling under his wing in an attempt to keep him on his feet. An attempt only so that he wouldn't crash to the ground and injure himself physically as well. "Kaj, shhhhh." she purrs, golden orbs searching for his gaze in concern. "I'm here, I'm here. I'm not going anywhere." She has no clue what the words are that had fell from his lips, but she would say all she could to try and calm him. "Lay down, dearest. Please, just lay down. You can hide beneath my canopy if you wish. Just please, let us lay down. I'm not going anywhere. You can tell me what's wrong, or you can simply cry. Either is fine, my darling…" Her words are laced with every single level of concern. Her body is trying to keep him standing, to let him put some weight upon her frame - and Valiance is carefully perched upon Kaj's haunches, beginning to braid the stag's short mane like he did with Res's, hoping that it would calm the King just enough to listen to what Res was saying.
Oh, but how her heart shattered to know that something had hurt her brother in this manner. She will scream at them all. She will chastise any who did this to Kaj - to make them understand just how badly they had hurt the only one who had always been there for her, the one who had helped her learn what it was like to be strong. She would make them understand how wrong it was for them to have done this.
No one deserved this. And Kaj was most definitely the last one to come close to needing this either.
Were he in a less dire state he would be ashamed of how he could not bring himself to care for her state of health in that moment, but he could hardly even concentrate on where he was much less how his savior was faring. He managed to prop himself off the tree, stumbling towards her when he recognized that his calls had been answered, she'd come for him. Fate had played the cards in his favor for once. It was a small mercy, one he prayed he deserved.
A touch against his shoulder, warmth. His wing was limp but a pitiful twitch managed to get it up and over Resplendence's frame, allowing her the room to help prop him up, no matter their size differences. She was warm and solid against him, one of the few constants his life had ever offered him. How odd it was that someone so broken was also the only one who continually supported Kaj in all he did and stood for. How others could not see her worth was beyond him. Perhaps she was like Cassandra, always mistaken as something else, a lie that could not be believed in except for sinners like him. Her prophecies always held worth, but nobody ever cared to turn an ear to them, thinking her a broken thing incapable of such wisdom. At least Kaj was not so blind.
Words soothed themselves into his ears, but he cannot meet her gaze that searches so valiantly for his. Instead, Kaj turned and tucked his head into the crook behind her jaw, closing his eyes tight against both the tears and the idea of having to look into her face in his moment of weakness. For what little he had left, pride was still among them. Comfort weaved itself into the torn fabric of his very soul with her soothing promises, and he let himself be rocked down and to the ground where he was less likely to harm himself or her. Claws prickled at his shoulders, claws soothing in his mane, and Kaj allowed it and desired it equally. It helped him concentrate on the actual words she was speaking, gave him a medium to speak through. Granted him the ability of a tongue she could understand, once more.
"I loved them," was all he could choke out before her words finally took effect. Kaj had never allowed himself to cry wholesomely. His last memory of it was fuzzy, distant. Years of grief and struggle broke into pieces at her command, and he sobbed into her skin, a mighty thing that was wrenched from the very marrows of his sorrow to spill across his tongue like ichor and turpentine. It was both horrifying and relieving, to feel so weak and broken and yet sense the newness beneath the rot. Perhaps he'd been cracking for too long, and Ophelia had been the one to drive the pick into his brain - a loving lobotomy that had allowed the man to break apart at the seams and become something better once stitched back whole.
"Kahlua-" it was the broken shard that he choked out, nothing more capable of following it. "They leave, they hurt me, god it hurts!" He wailed this newfound agony into her skin, imprinting it upon her. It was a child skinning its knees for the first time, the shock of newness more painful than the experience was likely worth. Except for Kaj, the pain was truly worthy, but the shock factor was still in place. His mighty frame seemed to shake like an earthquake, a mountain crumbling to pebbles. It was a wonder how Resplendence didn't shake apart right beside him, drawn down and smashed upon the rocks, he a boulder tied to her flightless form.
Somewhere in the stride between sobs he whispered a sentence more manageable, comprehensible. "I've given them everything," he whispered, fragile beyond measure or words. "It wasn't enough." It wasn't enough to keep Kahlua at his side, to make Evangeline love him, to keep Quilyan or Destrier as his brothers. They had turned the weapon of his own benevolence upon him, his own gifts striking him down so they could croon and coo over the patterns his heart made when it splattered upon the ground.
He was breaking. Shattering right in front of her. Weak movements allowed her to burrow up under his wing, to offer support to his hulking frame. Alas, he wouldn't meet her gaze. No, he buried his head behind her chin instead and so she allowed him to press into her - to drown her in his sorrows. It was fine, if it made him feel better. And slowly, so slowly, they lowered themselves to the ground where Valiance began his line of work. The dexterous claws flicking strands of mane around until tiny little braids began to appear along Kaj's crest.
She got three words from him before the tears gushed forth like raging waterfalls - resounding of nothing but power to Resplendence, who (by this point) had learned that being able to cry was also very much a sign of strength. And as his body shook more, she pressed up even closer to him. She tried to offer him her heartbeat, something to keep his body grounded regardless of where his memories drug him.
Then, there were more fragmented word. Kahlua, saying that 'they' leave and that 'they' hurt him. "I know it hurts, darling… I know…" she croons, her maw pressing up against his flesh and carefully massaging his muscles in a calming matter. And, slowly, with time between the tears, he says the seven words that make the most sense on this God-filled earth. There is a pause where she simply flicks her tail to wrap it around him, to protect him as much as she could from the rest of the world. "Sometimes everything is too much, and sometimes it it just enough." she whispers, Valiance shooting off to gather her canopy and carefully drape it around where they were now - to continue to hide them from all of the danger, all of the torture that was near them. "Some aren't worth the pain;" Aye, that wouldn't help him. No, but she couldn't figure out how to put these thoughts in her mind into intricate words to soothe his soul. "Sometimes it feels like you gave them too much because they don't return it- they don't replenish what you gave out and all you can feel is emptiness and pain…"
There is a gentle sigh. "Believe me, when I say that I want nothing more but to soothe your pain, brother. You are a part of my family too…" She's not sure if it will help, but as she lays there she can picture the lynx from the rotunda, when Resplendence was still pregnant. Aye, maybe she could quite literally soothe his soul, if only for a short period of time. She starts to hum, a tune so similar to the one she had heard the lynx do. But, this time it is softer, slower, calmer. She only hopes that his soul and mind will be open enough to cling to it - to give into the idea of calm, to keep his heart from giving out under the stress as they hid under the canopy.
