. . . T i l n e y

A sing-songing sigh escaped the tawny brutes lungs as he tossed his legs from one side of his body to the other, rolling on his back in the lush fauna. Tilneys pink tongue slid twice between marble teeth and finally he raised his hazel head. He was awake after his lengthy two hour nap. It was an odd place to nap he knew, and he'd heard several equines smirk and mutter on their way past but their little smirks didnt bother him much.

The past days he'd spent venturing this new land. It had not been long since he had passed through the threshold and found himself a new home in the Hidden Falls. Tilney had never been somewhere that felt so unknown to him, so unmapped. The sense of wanderlust it gave him was simply overwhelming.

It wouldnt be long until nightfall. The landscape was starting to brown already as the sun fell further from its platform in the clouds. This used to be his favorite time of the day, where he could admire the incredible colours the tired sun dpread throughout the sky. But now he could not see them as well as the world around him began to dim with the sun, and as the moon took its post he was left in total darkness. Being Nightblind; it was a secret that seemed near impossible to keep like he had originally intended. He would have to conceal himself all night until the sun peaked above the hills every morn so no one would know. No one could see him fumbling through the darkness or searching for a face to a voice when he was called to.
But he still has at least an hour or two until he had to worry about the sun abandoning him.

Shifting cloven, cream hooves in the grass he pushed his bronze bodice upwards. Now that he stood he could view his surroundings. There were only a small number of equines that littered his horizon. Normally he would prance over to hastily introduce himself, but already he had found that not everyone was as friendly as those he'd grown up around. And so he stood, he watched.

Two sparrows came and settled on his antlers, and a third on his back. He didn't feel quite as alone now.

OH, THE DESERT DREAMS OF A RIVER THAT WILL RUN DOWN TO THE SEA

Helovia was more than Najya could have imagined.

She had recently found her way to the World’s Edge and had only just begun the process of acclimating herself to a new place, a new culture, a whole new life.

However, she found herself curious about the rest of this place. Since she was still a newcomer, the little mare found that now would be the best time to explore and get her bearings before she began to take up responsibilities in her new herd. Not that she had even considered what those responsibilities would be. She let out a little sigh at the thought. She was little more than a girl who desperately loved to both learn and tell stories. Did they have a role for someone like her? Or would she have to reinvent herself entirely in this new place?

Her mind wandered much further than her legs carried her. She had quite a lot to consider. However she refused to let her thoughts drift back to those she left back in the desert. She was not sure the fate of her family or her other loved ones. All she knew is that she had honored her promise. She had escaped. She was alive. And she had found a place where she could be safe, and grow, and thrive. Since stepping through the Threshold she had made a promise to herself to remember those she left, but not to let them keep a part of her away from this new opportunity here.

It was easier said than done, it seemed.

The red-brown mare was uncertain what land, exactly, she had wandered into. There were a few individuals scattered about here and there, but Najya continued deeper into this place. She tossed her head, sending the gold disks tinkling and flaxen hair flying. Rebuilding a whole new life was certainly a lonely process. She, like so many before here, had come here with nothing. Only memories. And not all were those to be treasured.

She turned her attention outward in the hopes of clearing her mind. The sun had begun its descent towards the horizon, but there was still much life in this place. As her bright hazel eyes scanned the horizon, she was surprised to find a shape within shouting distance. A stallion who shone gold even in the dying light – and one who seemed to have made some acquaintances, even though they were not the equine variety.

She smiled to herself as she watched the birds shift in his antlers. Before she even recognized what she was doing, she had cut the distance between them by half. By then, there was no questioning her decision. She slowed and eventually drew herself to a halt a safe distance from the stallion, so as not to startle his companions.

“Friends of yours?” she asked, softly, gesturing to the trio of sparrows with her nose. She couldn’t help but smile. “Sorry if I am disturbing you…would you mind some company?” she pauses for a moment before offering her name with a little dip of her head, “I am Najya.”
