Venturing beyond the Edge had taken some control and courage on her part. Those were not enough, the strongest push behind the idea was her interest on what was beyond the mist. She was more prepared to encounter strangers, and with full strength, full use of her mind without fear she believed she was ready. She could not hide forever in the dark forest, pretending there was nothing beyond it. With the rising of the sun she slowly picked her way across the mountains, down, and around.

She let the child in her take over. She wandered, and gazed to her heart's desires. There was much to see, smell, and listen to. When she thought she had things figured out she was caught up in a place that spoke of winter with great mountains in it's grasp. She tried to choose which way to further explore, stay away from them or not. It was not hard to choose. The white landscape appealed the most; it was cold with no chance of flame, even if the dropping degrees may sting her nose. Cautious to where her hooves fell, steps were slow and timely. There was no ice yet (being noon now) so she continued to trod upon the frozen dirt and light snow with ease.

Often the red maned let her steel gaze rest upon the carved faces. There were lots of tall peaks, certainly they had to lead somewhere or guard another place where creatures would dwell. What kind she was not sure, she had never had been able to explore a winter wonderland.

Continuing to travel with thoughts scattered upon past, and present she did not try to focus them. There was too much, and she could too easily slip into old things she had risen above. Letting them hold her hostage again would not give her anything but anxiety, and fear. The crunch of flint, she started to hum under her breath, the wind starting to make the crimson of her fringe tangle across her dark pelt. The further the mare progressed, the mountains did not get much closer. The lonely plains stretched, revealing to her instead glaciers of the frozen land. She had not seen such ice, and pressed her pillars to carry her faster. Inspecting them closer, she saw tunnels, even arches of the glassy element. How strange, she mused, sticking her head into the glowing blue.

Heavy mahogany wings cut through the autumn air with ease. The golden stallion's form glided above the snow spotted earth. He had felt the urge to travel and enlighten himself, after being accepted into the Throat. The sweet girl, Kiva, had been more than kind to him, but there was much he still needed to know about this land. Things that he would prefer to learn by experience, rather than off the tongues of strangers.

The scent of another drifted lightly on the currents. A mare, but clearly not one of his own kind. An involuntary shiver ran down his spine. 'Horned'. Images flashed through his mind, of blood and chaos, and his own screams of pain thundered in his memory. He had learned to deal with the trauma in his past, to some degree. And the fact that there were feminine tones in the fragrance subdued his anxiety, if only slightly, for he knew that gender had little to do with capability. And he certainly had met enough Unicorns to realize that they weren't all bloodthirsty, crazed things. He just knew that some of them most certainly were. With muscles tensed and nerves heightened, Leander brought himself reluctantly to the ground.

The chilled soil met his hooves with a clear thud. Ivory rimmed eyes cast over the snowy expanse until they found what they were looking for. A dark silhouette stood near a iced sapphire structure. The sun hued stallion took a deep breath, realizing that he was too close to the dame to go unnoticed for long. He let his thick chords ring out, masking the slight unease that caused his heart to thrum just a bit faster. "Hello, miss." The brute's pale forelock fell loosely down his face as he dipped his head respectfully at the mare. When his crown rose, he paused to study the girl. Strange garnet locks fell over her sleek, midnight coat. She was elegant, but in a mysterious, almost sinister way. 'Who am I to judge who she is, just by looking at her? Ridiculous.' He thought to himself in a scolding manner. 'Looks can be deceiving..'

thank you for joining :D

The ice reflected the snow, and sky making it a rich cyan. If it were not for few rainbows she had seen she would not have known what to call it other than blue. Captivated by the natural structure her eyes slipped over the it with much precision, taking in the frozen ripples to the unblemished smooth curve. If she were a child she would have thought she was looking at the world's biggest piece of glass. Lips twitched if to form a faint smile, but there was a distant sound of something meeting ground. It was then her body would tense, muscles becoming stone still as the arch itself. Ever slowly, she would draw her black face to the open space to see who was before her. Nightmares were about to become reality.

The same height as Mauja, and also marked with a pale coat was a huge Pegasus with chestnut wings, the color of rich bark, to prove it. Curved nostrils quivered, but her thick pillars made no move. Fuzzy black ears, however, tipped at his greeting which seemed rather decent, perhaps even friendly. The tip of his cran, she briefly lost all sense because there was no way in hell a winged had done that to her. The truth was if Faelene had known a Pegasus had been above her, she would have possibly been torn between coming unglued or standing like a pathetic bunny, awfully still with prayers to be unseen. She was doing the later, almost. She was not praying at this moment in time. She let her charcoal irises take in his marbled figure, reminding herself how dangerous this could be. She had not encountered any of the friendly sort to say the least, and did not trust them any further than she could fly. This was why she was here of all things, to not let her past control her future. This land, it was different.. She tried to convince herself in the moment she was staring down her nose at a massive winged.

Another twitch of nose, she let out a silent release of air. Swallowing a stale taste, she found her own voice, "Hello," she at last managed to reply back in the warmest tone she could muster. Standing like a scared little fawn was not in her plans, and she pivoted her haunches to face him. "I"m Faelene," she would offer, trying to make up for her first speechless reaction. She couldn't help, but wonder how long he had been following her and why. A twitch of her long, crimson tail she was trying hard not to let her mind go there. Deciding to try to be a bit more, normal she continued,"I'm sorry you startled me. I figured this place was kinda...desolate. But it looks rather lovely, so maybe not." More collected she peered at him through her dark lashes, her visage neutral as these lands.

The azure cave and the doe's charcoal form were reflected in Leander's honey pools. He continued to study the girl as she noticed his presence, his mind whirling with it's own ideas of what she might say and do. Half expecting her to charge him with her sharp spear pointed at his chest, the gilded stag had a moment of relief when the girl didn't seem to do anything too quickly. In fact, she seemed almost as nervous about him as he was about finding her. Darkened ears stood as the unicorn spoke.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Faelene. I am Leander." Warming tones emanated from his throat, reassured somewhat by the mare's amicable words. His wound shoulders finally began to relax, the tips of his feathers nearly reaching the snow-laden ground as his wings lowered slightly. It was times like these that he wished he could read minds. Was the girl just putting on a front? Or was she genuinely good natured? Hopefully a little time would give him the answers. A soft smile crept upon his velvets as the onyx maiden went on to say that she had been startled by him. "I'm sorry for alarming you. But if it makes you feel any better, you surprised me a little as well." Leander's smile broadened, forcing him to calm down further. He hadn't added why she had surprised him, but explaining that he had nearly been killed by one of her kind probably wouldn't break the ice too well. His caramel gaze lingered on Faelene, captivated by her strange eyes and twisted horn. He had met some Unicorns in his time, but not many as uniquely crafted as her. "Yes, quite beautiful." The tawny buck remarked, and for a moment he wondered whether he was talking about the elaborate ice structures or the dark damsel in front of him. 'Oh boy..'

With a bit of a struggle, he tore his sights from Faelene and took a few steps towards the gleaming cave. He deliberately left a good amount of space between himself and the horned lady, though some part of him wouldn't have minded being closer. The more rational part, however, didn't want to get too close to something that risky. A puff of warm breath escaped his nostrils as he peered into the cavern. The shining aquamarine swept all around them in smooth arcs and dips. It was an awe-inspiring sight; he had never seen ice like this before. It was going to be a day for some firsts, it seemed.

Natural enemies? Or was it more of the environment in which they had been placed that caused them to think so, to expect something bad to occur when around the other. She wasn't sure, never thinking if that was the way things were really suppose to be. But, if only she knew he was wary of her, as she was him. That would cause a blow to her mind, something she would have any even harder time of understanding. These were background thoughts, collected in the back of her skull with her other musings. Now, she only hoped he did not hear the rapid pace of her heart thrumming inside her chest or he might take it for her still trying to ease from first sight of him.

"Hmm," she quietly answered, a cock of her ear at the announce of his name. She was clearly unsure what to say to that. She didn't think it would sound the same if she muttered it back because she did not know if it was true. Leander was placed in her mind for now with his picture, maybe a scent when she could only catch it on the wind. The mare was also wondering what was within, because anyone could spout kind words, use their manners. The stallion's body relaxed, large wings, which she chanced to give a glance, tipping to the frosty covered earth. They looked soft, but she had never thought wings to be. When he spoke again she could not hide the surprise that crept on her features. "Me?" The question, the unexpected emotion of it rang in her feminine tone. It was logical why he had startled her, the other way around struck her as...odd. A hint of a smile at the corner of her lips, then there was a start of a laugh, "I've never had anyone afraid of me. You expect to be alone?" Once more trying not to be rude, or ill in her manners there was a playful undercurrent to her words. Well aware his warm gaze was upon her, she could not pull her charcoal colored ones from him. It never ceased to amaze her how they could fly no matter their size. His wings were massive, it was then she noted a scar at his waist. She would not let her eyes linger long. She lifted them to the grey sky, taking his comment for agreeing, nothing more.

He dared to come closer, giving her room, while he peered into the crystal depths. She carefully turned, letting herself look back into the hollow that had first caught her interest. He ears kept close to her head, catching the faint sounds of his breath on the ice. "You've never seen anything like it either?" She asked, wondering if it was only so foreign to her. The way his own golden eyes stared with interest she thought so, but let her eye drift side ways to study him further.

Sunlight filtered into the chiseled cave, sending rays of color dancing around the ice. A beautiful, radiant sight indeed. Yet it paled in comparison to the dusky mare beside him. He continued to walk into the azure cove, aware of Faelene's gaze. It was an uneasy feeling; to let his guard down while being so close a unicorn he did not know. Silently, he hoped he wasn't making a mistake by putting any amount of trust in her. He didn't think so, at least it didn't feel like a mistake. The russet feathers that covered his lower limbs stroked the ground as he meandered further into the blue. He had to keep his head fairly low, for he would be a bit to close to the ceiling of the structure if he stood at his full height. The flaxen hued stallion turned back towards the alluring girl as she spoke.

Afraid. A chuckle escaped his lips. Though he slowly began to realize that she wasn't altogether wrong; he wasn't too afraid of her in a physical sense, but she posed a different sort of threat. More dangerous, even, than a physical attack. She was having quite an effect on his emotions, and he knew it. If only she knew how much blood he had spilled in his lifetime! His laugh faded into a smile as he realized how glad he was that she didn't know. The lovely, mysterious maiden probably wouldn't be so friendly if she did. With a deep breath, Leander gave her a bit more information than he had planned. "I had a bad experience with a Unicorn when I was a colt." Noble golden head gestured to the clear scar on his right haunch. "I apologize if I seem a bit.. nervous." Taking his time, the stocky gent moved closer to the dame, not wanting her to think he looked down upon her kind the way some Pegasus did. He did not agree with that biased way of thinking, though his wariness of Unicorns might make him sometimes come off as racist. Champagne eyes locked with the ebony mare's pitch pools. "I am thoroughly enjoying your company, Faelene." Another smiled laid on his lips, his chords warm and deep. He was only a few short feet from the sleek sultana now, and a slight shiver rippled through his pelt. His heart had a mind of it's own, and his head was trying gallantly to maintain control over it. Faelene's sweet voice spoke of the arching ice. Pulling his reluctant sights off of her once again, he glanced around the glassy cave. "I have seen ice on the trees and over streams, but never like this."

The arch seemed to shrink when Leander filled the space. Thankfully she was not claustrophobic, strange enough, being in a ice cave with a Pegasus and all. The glow of blue light seemed to keep things tranquil, equaling things out between the space that really was, with what it appeared to be. The clip of his hooves struck at the ground, he wandered further ahead. Faelene lingered at the entrance, noting the scar at his marbled flank again. It was in the shape of a clipped moon, and seemed to have aged with him. Cream face drew around, light topaz eyes staring upon her again. She met his gaze directly, hearing the deep thrum of his own chuckle. A smile flinched on her lips, coming and going, relieved he had not taken offense to her statement. What troubled her now was how they were treading on eggshells, but had no idea how to change that. She best tried to keep the small annoyance from crawling under her skin. The stallion was quiet for a time, pondering over something she guessed. The red maned lady made no move to go closer, or speak, whatever it was it seemed he needed to work out and she wasn't about to interrupt him.

Most unexpectedly he explained, not in great detail, but enough to give her understanding about his own reaction, the old wound. He was going out on a limb, telling a mere stranger a personal detail of himself. Why? She questioned his motives, felt her mind repeating his words. It made her uneasy how sweet, kind he appeared. Eyes betrayed nothing. She had long carried a mask to hide beneath, and it was no different now. She studied him with a thoughtful eye, wondering about what exactly had happened between him and this unicorn. What he said was not a lie, but she felt it was missing important details. It would be pathetic, and poor of her to expect it. She didn't, but again why tell her? Had he caught her eye glancing at the scar? An an utter apologize she lifted up her head, rich red locks drifting back along her nape. "Natural don't you think? Seeing me would do that then," she offered with a meek smile. There was no need for him to explain. The fellow strode closer, she had to refrain her hind legs from pulling her back. It was too familiar, sweet dark tones talking to her, coming for her. The skin atop her spine feeling like frost was nipping it, breathing down her neck. She had to remind herself she was no longer a slave, and had not been for a year. Keeping her breathing steady, she forced herself to stare at his long white locks that hung around his eyes, scaling down his nose and cheeks. They reminded her of feathers, gave her something to think about. Then she caught his sand toned eyes. Why did he have to say that? Could she head bang into ice chunk now? There was no way in hell a Pegasus was being sincere or polite to her for real reasons. Options, options. There had to be a better one.

"Me? Nice try, you must say that to all the pretty things you find," she said, peering at him through her crimson hair. Purely as test, possibly in jest, she bumped her dark nose to his brown, pink tinted muzzle letting out a flicker of warm breath. A laugh of mirth glided in her throat, a smiled placed to on her face. The mare took a couple seconds to glance around at his comment, giving a bob of her head. Daring, she glided closer to him. Before she lost her nerve, she cantered her head close to his cheek."And I've never met a Pegasus I liked," she whispered,"but, you might change my mind."

The day ambled on over the snow specked expanse. It seemed to leave the contrasted pair behind, ignoring the dangerous game they played. The golden stallion had not been in Helovia long enough to know of any herds but the Throat. He did not stop to wonder what the political situations in the new land were. This vital information would likely find him already falling for the inky Unicorn.

Leander's expression continued to warm as Faelene seemed to understand his nervousness completely. He had half expected her to think he held the experience against her whole kind entirely. Something about the mare attracted him unlike any other he'd met, and he did not want her to be frightened of him. Luckily, she seemed to have no problem giving him at least a fraction of her trust. Out of curiousity, the tawny stag questioned with slight concern in his eyes. "Have you ever had any problems with my kind?" The mere thought of her being hurt by anyone, especially by a fellow pegasus, made his chest tighten. He had always felt a natural inclination to protect females, and anyone in general need of help, really. But for her the desire was already stronger. He was undeniable starting to develop feelings for an almost complete stranger. A soft, pained sigh escaped his muzzle. The recklessness of the situation was frustrating, but there was nothing to be done about it. His heart was winning the rest of him over, and it wouldn't allow for him to do the rational thing and just spread his wings and fly away. Though he would have to go back to the Throat at some point..

The blackened girl's next words changed the course of his whirling thoughts. Before he could open his mouth to respond, her velvet nose touched his. Accompanied by Faelene's laughter, the playful gesture put a grin across his features. It was a smile that faded quickly, however, as his next words were spoken with seriousness. "I've never found anyone as beautiful as you before." Gold eyes sparkled at her with heightened intensity. His breath caught in his throat as her midnight body slipped closer to his. Slowly, he motioned to brush his soft lips along her neck. It was as if he had forgotten all about the frightening dagger on her brow. "I hope so." Rich tones breathed. Stocky pillars moved his tanned body gently against her side. One massive wing lifted, letting downy under-feathers stroke the ebony mare's back.

Taking a breath, release a breath.

Through all her life she had never tight roped such dangerous lines. It would be much easier if she knew he would hurt her, or if his wants were more basic. That she could do something about, she would know what to do. This, what the hell? Life must be pure entertainment for those who watched. It was almost like some god had said oh look Faelene has decided to take a walk lets stir things up. Even now they had to have their excitement, the night taking it's turn to show it's face to make it all more dramatic. Claws of panic were gliding across her chest, telling her there was little to do, she was trapped again. Strange as it were she did not believe he would hurt her, not yet. She ignored the sensation of her fear that always wanted to hold her.

The charger's deep voice questioned her on the one thing she rather not answer. She could lie and say no, it would not be a good lie. It would be fake, and fragile. She reasonably decided to answer him with the truth. A cold laugh, completely alien compared to her others, erupted from her lips, then she harshly snorted. "Problems is an understatement, but yes. Let's just say I have my own reasons for being wary, and those will be mine to keep." The coldness had crept into her alto voice, not entirely but it was there. The lady blinked, shifting her shoulders if to be done with the matter. At the same time the sigh of his affliction did not go unnoticed, but she bit back words she wanted to say. She was already too deep, and did not need to dig herself a deeper hole. She couldn't afford to be reckless because this forebode of trouble. If only she knew how much. Faelene may think he would not do her harm, she did not trust him, nor would ever think or believe he was taken with her for good reason. Faelene no matter what species a stallion was would never believe he had pure intentions.

The cream marbled stud took her banter well by the look that marked his face. The light mood she had hoped to keep changed by the weight of his voice. How much she wanted to shake her head, brush it off, make his words worth nothing. The glint to his eyes she could not find her voice, nor see anything but the golden pools of his eyes. Then they were close, and she could sense the heat pouring from his frame, sense him moving the already thin gap. Dark body went rigid to keep herself from shivering by the satin edge of his muzzle gliding along her neck. It spark contrasting thoughts within her, a tug between wants and reality. "You sound so certain," she murmured back, not yet having the heart to break contact from him. Brought himself beside her, the plush of his wing tip dancing along her spine. He's a Pegasus, she was reminded, a reason why she had not wanted to leave the Edge. Faelene was not about to be cruel, only she wasn't sure what was going on with her own heart. She made a great effort to swallow, and though her head was pointed straight ahead, she let her eyes rest upon him. "You seem so noble, but you should find yourself a damsel, one who can join you in the skies not one who would torment you." There was an undercurrent of sorrow to her words, but there was no doubting how meant they were. She glided backward, to the open space of the darkening sky.

Leander's mind raced, the dove's soft visage running through it. He was enticed, yet his subconscious still shivered at the sight of her horn. Faelene answered his concerned question, and his heart fell. The ebon mare's reply was hard, almost icy. He longed to ask her if she had been hurt, and more importantly, who had hurt her. Fury weaved through his thoughts, wondering how anyone could have done something to hurt her. The gold stag's worried gaze glanced around her body for any signs of violence. "If anyone ever tries to hurt you, call for me. I reside in the Dragon's Throat." His usually warm tone was rigid, and he struggled against his primal desire to seek out whoever hurt this girl and make them pay. Inwardly, he swore to ask her about the matter some other time. The anger in his chest slowly began to fade as he reveled in her closeness.

The tawny stallion continued to hold his side gently against hers. The ruby locked fae spoke up again, the uncertainty in her words sending currents of disappointment through him. "I am certain. I don't say things like that lightly." Deep chords echoed into the wintry cave, with a certainty that Faelene's lacked. It was understandable for her to be unsure of him. They were of kinds that did not usually mesh without conflict. Sadness pooled in his caramel eyes as he was reminded once again of how different they were. His heart had been wistfully running rampant with the idea that their differences did not matter at all. They should not matter. But still, sickeningly, they did.

Cold words from the girl sent another stab of anguish. And just like that, she was backing away from him, as though he were some beast. Leander stood his ground, but did not pursue her. If she did not want to be near him, then that was her choice. Brilliant orbs locked with her midnights once again, hoping she could feel the sorrow within them. "The heart doesn't know wings or horns. But if you want me to leave you, Faelene, I will go." The prince's voice was surprisingly calm in the midst of his inner turmoil. Sooty limbs begged to turn away, to throw him into the clouds once again, away from this heart ache. But the flaxen brute only waited for the dame's reply. He would not turn his back on her unless she asked him to. Something in him needed to know that she wanted him gone, in order for him to pull himself away from here.

Flash of distant images hung at the edges of her mind, she payed them no attention. Instead she stared deep into his vivid golden pools. It was so very strange what she found, and her mind could not comprehend what made him look at her like that. It was with concern he looked upon her as if he really had a heart in his chest. None expect of her own kind who every looked at her if they cared to help. Faelene's tormentors were far beyond these lands, she had made sure of that. She was not the only one to change in passing sentences. He was not only looking at her, but telling her she could come to him if need. Talk about a loop to loop. This seemed more threatening to her already questioning thoughts than the proximity of his body. Taking a moment to let the idea settle in her head, she was lost for words. They she could not tease him about nor doubt. "I promise if it comes to that I will," she said in seriousness. It would surely have to be something dreadful; she wasn't about letting anyone fight her battles for her. Something in her had to assure him.

"I just meant in your aura you're so secure," she tried to explain feeling she had not made the best choice of words before. How cautious they had been upon meeting, there was no doubting he had confidence in himself. It made her envious he knew who he was, and likely what he wanted. Where she, it was endless unknowns to what she would make of herself, who she was.

She had only began the damage to the kind charger. She wasn't sure if words would be enough of a fix what she had told him next. Much her body screamed for her to run she could not. Surely she should. The dark was only a small part of the problem. The cool air wrapped around her in place of him, what she had expected did not come true. He merely faced her, not the horrible things that were ground to spaces of her brain. What would outreach, dominating it's own etching was the pain she had placed upon his face. It was not something she had ever wanted to see. He spoke so smoothly in a way that soothed yet bothered her to her core. "You are right to think it should not matter what's in the heart, but it is the world outside of it which makes it and everything else vulnerable to suffering," she answered a plea in these words, yet a conviction of what she believed. It frustrated her how he might see her to be so shallow in this, and she briefly closed her eyes to find what she needed. Courage and words. A broad step she held her crown high to meet his gaze with a hard look,"You are mistaken if you think I am only wary of you for being winged. If you were my kind it would hardly be any easier for me to believe and understand...this," she half hissed the last word, incredibly frustrated by this point. It was not entirely directed at him, it was more of being fed up with herself. Turning head not wanting to look at him for the fact he would be looking at her, she let her face hide beneath her small wavy locks. Heat of anger slowly boiling beneath the dark surface before making a quick death.

"I'm a unicorn, wouldn't Dragon's throat be a bit repulsed by the idea?" She questioned, keeping her vocals more hushed than before.

The sky waned on above the ornate ice caverns. The cool orangemoon breeze meandered through, more chilled here than in the Throat. Leander stood silently as the girl responded. Why did he feel the desire to stay here with her? He knew that there were many mares in the Throat in which he could find companionship. Somehow, the idea was not appealing. Maybe the best things in life just happened to be the most difficult. He let his honey gaze stay on Faelene as she spoke, wondering what would become of their meeting this day.

"I have many years of experience as a fighter of sorts. I learned to mask my weaknesses as best I could." He spoke, trying to expain the reason for his usually strong exterior. It had become natural to him to exude confidence, even when inside he was crumbing. "But I do feel secure around you now, Faelene. I don't believe you'd want to hurt me." His deep tones were genuine, though he had to hope he would not eat those words one day. The bronze stallion continued to face her, wondering what was keeping her here with him. Surely, if she truly disliked his kind, she would have run. Or attacked him. Right? The midnight doe retaliated, sending another rueful stab into his heart. Drawing on the whirling emotion in his chest, he responded. "You're right. But some things are worth fighting for." His passionate words hung in the air. Faelene was right; the outside world would always include those who believed that their species were meant to be separate. But should the outside world really be able to control them? No, his desires were not puppets to society.

The dame continued to speak, but her next words cut through the air with audible frustration. The palomino lowered his fawn crown, the girl's harsh vocals only hurting him more. What didn't she understand? Was she surprised that someone could be drawn to her, that someone desired her? Confused, he raised his sunlit eyes to hers. "I'm sorry, I did not mean to upset you." For the one of the first times in his life, he struggled to find the right thing to say, if only for a brief moment. "I can only give you my word that I have enjoyed being with you. I wish it was easier for you to believe that." Sorrowful pools darkened at the sight of her turned face. He longed to comfort her, to take the anger from her face. She spoke up again, but this time of the Throat. Repulsed? "Dragon's Throat accepts all kinds to my knowledge. I would not follow a group that didn't." His smooth words were strong, for he was sure that all types resided in the Throat. If there was some sort of unspoken wariness of Unicorns in the herd, he had not yet encountered it. A small flicker of hope lit his face. "You could come back with me to the Throat, if you want to." Unsure chords uttered the invitation, hopeful and yet half-expecting disappointment.

The cold was nothing to Faelene, it was familiar company, and her coat had long started preparing for the harsh months ahead. If her heart had not beating so quickly she may have noticed it was dropping in degrees. The red maned lady's thoughts were upon Leander, almost wishing to hear his. She told herself it would not make a difference;nothing would change her mind.

She fought the wince that wanted to capture her face. It was never easy hiding such things, and carrying them around. How much was he doing that now? "How lucky for you," she more calmly answered, but her voice was starting to become empty of anything. As if she was somewhere else, though she lingered so close to him. Soon she thought she was secure in her choice, he said something that made her want to change things. It would not be so easy, least not for her. "No, it's never entered my mind to wish you harm. But I wish I could make you understand it was not long ago the sight, the sound of wings terrorized me...that I would be caught...I would be nothing...again."

The force of her other words had not been meant to hurt him, but snap him into reality, to make him understand there was nothing for them. He took them steadily, giving her something else to mull over. Why, why did he have to be decent? Silver orbs softened, knowing he was putting himself out there not completely fragile, but exposed. "There is no denying that," more sweetly she answered trying to keep from frowning. She knew what he said to be true, and he believed it to his core. "What happens if you make it out alive to only wish you were dead?" As it escaped her tongue she wasn't sure if he would understand. Eyes were desperately searching....clinging to his. If this was love, and they pledged themselves what would be the price they paid? She wanted no world which she found love to have it taken from her. It was her pure reason for not getting instantly attached to anyone.

Again she did not mean to pour more salt into the open wound, but half of her really wanted him to hate her. Seeing as he was nothing but patient and kind, hanging on a string of hope, she did not know what else to do."It's fine, I'm more upset with myself." She confided, letting her chin alter upward to convey her sincerity. Ears cast in his direction, attentively listening as he continued to speak."Me too," she sadly murmured," but I can't instantly change who I am or what has made me this way."

Slowly she forced back the lump in her throat, letting her ears perk up again at his deep, soft tone. His herd harbored no prejudice, it should have made her feel better.....but it didn't. The change to his cream colored face it did not help. It made her feel more terrible, because she would kill that hope. "Leander, it is not that simple. If it was I would not have moved from your touch, and be lingering here in want......trying to make you see no good can come of it or me."

The darkness of evening was chasing the sun quickly out of the sky. The ice caves began to gleam a more shadowed cerulean now. The place seemed to have a strange glow in almost any light. The ethereal sight might have lifted Leander's spirits in any other situation.

Faelene seemed to grow colder with the air. Her sweetness of early had faded, and now was replaced by distant chords. His brow continued to be wracked with concern at the sound of the ebon mare's voice. His wings shrunk back against his hide at her confession. If he ever found the ones that hurt her, if he ever laid eyes on them, he would kill them. Bronze pools were filled with anger, but the rest of his body maintained composure. "I will not ask what happened to you, Faelene. But I promise that I will never harm you." If only he knew how hard that promise would be to keep, that they would soon be pitted against each-other in a war. Yet he was a stallion of his word, and the promise would be kept, no matter the cost.

The girl's gaze warmed ever so slightly, sending a small wave of relief over him. The sooty golden smiled in the midst of his sorrow as she confirmed his words. Yet he knew that little would come easy from her, not if she had been abused so horrifically in her past. She didn't need to go into detail for him to gauge that whatever had happened to her had been horrible. He held onto some strange, persistent idea, maybe it was something in her eyes. Something in her face didn't want him to leave her, at least not yet. Her words were almost like a riddle, and he wished that he knew exactly what to say to ease her mind. It seemed such an impossible feat. "I do not know. But maybe we could find happiness.. together." His pleading gaze held hers, still aching to comfort her but not knowing how. Feathered limbs gingerly took a step towards her, then stopped. He didn't want to scare her, and for one of the only times in his life, he genuinely wished he didn't have wings. Another step brought his softened, submissive frame closer. That was as far as he was going. He stood still, leaving himself open to the black dove. He would not force his presence on her, only offer it.

"You have no reason to be upset with yourself, love." Warmly he spoke, the accurate name for her slipping out of it's own accord. "You must have been through some terrible things. I'm lucky that you'll even talk to me." His usually charming visage was somber. A weary gaze took in all of the sadness in the young damsel's form. There was little for him to do now. His heart was there for the taking, if only she wanted it. "You should not change who you are, Faelene. But maybe in time you can learn to trust me." The ivory marked stallion spoke hopefully. He knew she could learn to trust in him, and maybe even give him her love. But how long it would take, only the Gods knew. His humble invitation was quickly dashed. "You don't have to want, Faelene. Good can come of it, if you let it. I would not let any harm come to you, I swear it." Deep tones were stronger now, secure in their meaning.

What do you want? Question repeated in silence, demanding to be answered. Nothing first was instantly placed. Needs had come first, wants merely wishes to fantastic to be reality. Wasn't tha why she was unsettled, she did not know the answer to the question. She hadn't known it to be a problem. A drastic change in life she should have been prepared for, but instead was still struggling for this normalcy. Faelene was sure she shouldn't be about haste decisions she couldn't commit fully too. Consequences existed in both aspects if she chose to love him or not. She did not plan on picking either, not one radical end or the other.

Mixture of emotion caused havoc upon his face, golden eyes becoming more fierce. He went as far to assure her again, he would not harm her. It was not specifically him that worried her. Surely back in the Throat was a herdful of Pegasus, Faelene was pretty damn sure that she could not handle. Lips tightened, clutching a breath to her chest, and letting her eyes rest upon him trying to pick apart his deep reasons why he was inclined to have affections. They were nothing but strangers. Suspiciously, for a brief second her eyes lingered on the Frozen Arch as if it held some enchantment.

Dark silver hued eyes relaxed, she could see any warmness in herself comforted him. It messed with her sense of logic, and entranced her having that affect. The seconds ticked by she started to feel her time being taken, and no better things to give to him, what more to say. Love could really be blind, and deaf. "I know. You scare me for different reasons," she muttered letting a sad smile linger on her lips. Slowly she let her nose tip to where the sun had set, letting a sigh drift through her nostrils.

The phrase she used did not make things clear, and she closed her eyes feeling her heart beat to simple even her nerves. She should retire from talking she only confused when words escaped her mouth. The darkness behind her eyelids she played the words back in her mind. happiness.. together. Opened her eyes to see how much he wanted her to say yes. The word no heavy on her tongue. It was there she went against her impulses despite how strongly they protested. The soldier came closer to her, she waited, and listened. The sharp flinch of her ears could not go u unnoticed at the word love. It was with a drooping head she let a breath break, and managed to cut the distance between them. Reaching for his shoulder, she let her plush muzzle softly play along his withers, stopping to chestnut wings. Triangle points were bent back, listening to the sway of his words, undercurrent of emotion, the hints of what he was trying to convey.

Time, maybe that was all she needed.

Drifting away from him, she lingered almost nose to nose, careful to keep her horn safe distance."Time is all I can promise you," she said her tone neither cold nor warm, but deadly serious.
