i am no warrior
but that doesn't mean i don't have fire

Run. Run. Run. Tor's breath came in deep, even smooth gasps. The air was turning colder, but the tall mare loved the cold. The bittersweet tang of frost in her lungs, the exhalation of white clouds foaming in the air. Her hooves pounded the ground, her body twisted nimbly between the trees. The tobiano's agility had improved in her training regiment; she could now run more steady and smooth. Running smoother and swifter than ever, she reached the open tundra. Ice simply deflected off her golden hooves, with only a slight touch of snow slicking under her feet. It chilled her feet's frogs, but she didn't notice it too much. The gray sky seemed to hang low over her pearl white head, almost brushing her cheeks. The wind pelleted her delicate muzzle with tiny flakes of snow, flecking her gray coat. Her winter coat was coming in thick and toasty, and she felt only a light wind ruffling her coat. In fact, Tor felt most comfortable in this tundra. It was sweet and cold, reminding her of her old days. Plus, her coat blended smoothly into the surroundings. She squinted, half-closing her dark brown eyes. Still in fourth. Lace, Bellatrix, and one other- did she have a tree coming out of her shoulder?!- ran ahead. Not too far, hopefully. Maybe she could gain on them.

The draft cross sped up, muscles flexing under her rippling silver-and-white coat. If she did catch up though, she would not resort to silly tricks and cheating. She would simply try to outrun Lace. How she loved the sweet cold, kissing her skin. It brought back good childhood memories, and it made Tor run faster as she remembered the joy of her youth. A laugh escaped from her lips, and her warm brown eyes had an extra sparkle to them. Such incredible childlike joy wafted away from her.

It was a long loop through the Steppe here, taxing enough that Tor realized she must slow. Her pace became a little less exaggerated, a little more flat. Snow ghosts shimmered in her imagination- the flicker of wind created small figures dancing across the soft white blanks. Tor could almost imagine small foxes bursting from the ground, doves flitting up to the sky. An arctic fox, or something similar, trotted across the snow, small paws leaving tiny tracks in its wake. Cold clouds drifted from the tobiano's nostrils, and she sped up, following the little fox. It wandered slightly, and began to lope, before running full-out, barking cheerfully. Maybe I should request an arctic fox companion. Tor thought, amused. They were lovely, atttractive little critters. Smart, too. But Tor's kindly soul fretted to force another cold-loving creature out into the sun and the heat of the forests and where she often had to travel. It was simply mean. Well, unless they wanted to.

And Tor blanked out, tuning out her thoughts until she was running, the wind kissing her cheeks, the snow serenading her, the snow swirling in her mane and tail, and leaving only a trail of hoof-prints in her wake.

"blah blah blah."
