The painted male was currently very glad of the strength training he had been working toward since the better part of two weeks. When not busy with the overlapping duties of a soldier, Midas spent his early morning and late evenings visiting other parts of Helovia. Even still—the first stages of what was to become foamy sweat had already begun to cake his hide. It slithered along his flanks and forearms, breast heaved with great breaths; well-developed lungs where used to low oxygen and struggled only with the strain of fast continuous flight. He swiftly tucked and lunged through the first shallow ring, noticing the color change from lighter hues to a vibrant purple. Crest wouldn’t have to turn to know that the hot breath of his followers were close behind. Ears had planted themselves firmly against his skull, teeth set to the point of grinding pain. Sweet smelling pines and spruce lunged up beneath him; they seemed to be stretching fingers skyward to puck unwary fliers. Reflexively Midas angled up, directing knees to strongly pump and aid pushing appendages in what way he could. Ivory feathers bent at an angle, curled limbs twisted under his barrel and pushed him cranium first through the next ring. A cool northern wind collided with lifting warm southern air. Throat tucked muzzle closer to ebony neck, haunches twisted frame to accommodate the shifting air. Wither’s trembled; he would have to work harder to remain airborne without the aid of updrafts. A small smirk formed along open features, he was more than willing to accept the goddesses challenge. |
