guess it's true, I'm no good at a one night stand

You’re not sure why, but the fire draws you like a moth to a flame. Usually self-preservation would kick in when you encounter a giant pit of lava (especially given your recent experiences at the Veins), but you find yourself circling, drifting downwards until you land a safe distance away. As you hike towards the crater, you wonder if there is magic to be found here too—it wouldn’t surprise you, given this place.

When you reach the pit, you tread carefully along the rocky border, keeping one eye on the lava. As expected, it is hot here, and within minutes you are drenched in a fine layer of sweat. You consider turning back, but then you round a corner…and there she is.

She looks even more beautiful than when you last saw her, if that’s possible. You don’t know if the heat has gone to her head, but she’s got a glow about her, a pure angelic radiance. Best of all, she’s alive. Either that, or, wait a second—you’re not dead, are you? Eyes dart to the pit, making sure that it’s still down there and you’re still up here. But though you’re feeling a little shaky, your hooves are still planted firmly on the ground. It’s her.

“Muriel!” you call, voice unexpectedly hoarse. “MURIEL!” You’re shuffling towards her as quickly as the footpath will allow you (which seems, in this moment, to be maddeningly slow), neck stretching, eyes searching, longing to touch her and prove to yourself that this is real. And then finally the ledge widens, and you reach her, surging forward until only a few feet of empty space remains between you. “You’re…you’re not dead,” you whisper.
