Blood for blood

Her words had bite, yet Gaucho didn't see how it was supposed to be a critique of his actions. Wasn't that precisely what he was doing? Confutatis had tried to capture those around her - Gaucho was merely doing the same. Perhaps where they differed was in outcome. Gaucho hardly cared if Confutatis learned her lesson. If she didn't - if she moved against the Basin - he would have a reason to kill her. It was almost ironic, really, given Ampere's hard and fast stance when it came to justice, that she should be the one perpetuating such injustice. She would rather have Gaucho break Confutatis's bones and sentence to her a lifetime of restricted freedom, rather than a few months. Ampere would rather waste his time motivating her own self-righteous agenda than waste the herds resources on trying to teach a mare a lesson. This dance wouldn't change a thing in Ampere's mind, but it might in Confutatis'; yet Ampere only saw one as being worthwhile.

Ampere was like a rabid dog - throwing herself at him, frothing and snapping her teeth. Out of the corner of his eye he saw her as her body readily snaked after his. He heard teeth snapping as her body lunged from the water. He felt her hooves and shins hit his left shoulder, and immediately his ears pinned against his head as a snide smirk broke his darkened lips. Was this her way of getting revenge? Was she going to try and climb ontop of him to prove that anything he could do, she could do better? He pointed his nose up and to the right, but not before her teeth clamped down on the meat of his cheek. Pain radiated outwards and instantly tears sprung to his eyes as the sharp pinch of her attack flooded through seemingly his entire skull. Gaucho grunted, tearing his face away with a squeal of pain, and allowed his body to take a step to the right to widen his stance to hold her weight as she leaned against him. He might have easily side stepped the entire thing, allowed her to fail in her lunge but he didn't. He remained, catching her in his own way once again, and accepting her anger. He might not have deserved it, but something told him that her storm needed to run its course before the skies could clear.

Her forelimbs relentlessly dug into his shoulder and neck, like some bastardized massage technique that she hadn't quite mastered yet. His muscles cramped under her weight and assault, and it was all Gaucho could do to remain stationary. Regardless of the pain that clawed through his muscles and stung his cheek, he couldn't pull away from her.

Mara however, was having none of it. From her place in his antlers, the gun-steel coloured snake struck. She had intervened last time Ampere had pulled out her soap box, and she was more than happy to do so again. Her lips parted to reveal fangs dropping with a toxin that would hopefully take quite a bit of pep out of Ampere's step. She aimed for the right side of Ampere's neck, just behind her ear. Although the meatier part of Ampere's neck was lower down, the snake didn't want to risk the blue's flailing limbs. Holding on to Gaucho's antlers with her tail, she struck, hoping to bite and then quickly return back to the safety of Gaucho's rack.

Snapping his tail, Gaucho leaned hard to the left, trying to knock Ampere off balance. He wouldn't let her fall, but that didn't mean he needed to simply continue to stand there while she berated him. He hoped that by slightly dropping his shoulder she would have to find purchase anew - which would require placing her knees onto his spikes. Assuming she wasn't that stubborn, she'd have to cease her massaging and regain her footing. When she did, he would kick out with his back left leg, aiming once again to unsettle her footing by hitting her right thigh or leg.

Even then, when all four hooves were back on the ground, he didn't pull away. Were this any other spar, he might have darted forward and swung around to face his opponent, but Gaucho couldn't pull himself away from Ampere's side. Instead, his hips moved in her direction as his legs crossed over each other, trying to bring him closer to her flank, attempting to force them parallel. Although his antlered skull was still raised to try and evade any more of her love-bites, it was clear that whatever tactic this was, it was not driven by battle-strategy. Whatever reasons he had for remaining close, they had nothing to do with winning.
