"Where brilliance is good and madness is better..."
Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

Doppleganger Plot ☼ - 6/20/13 - The God of Time is still struggling to close the rift though which the dopplegangers have come. He has requested that his brothers and sister assist in closing this hole, but without knowing why it opened, the task is proving difficult. Magic still remains faulty and hard to control, but the herdlands continue to be places of refuge for those who are fortunate enough to call these lands home.
ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for

WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

The sun overhead was wan and getting thinner, the winter months arriving swiftly. Sweltering head was replaced with a gentle breeze, daylight not as harsh with the sun much farther away. Just north of the Dragon's Throat, the deep forest began, trees somewhat sparse on the coastline but growing much, much thicker. Here is where you went, gathering materials for your herd and searching the depths for the more subversive types in Helovia.
Where better to hide than a forest more dangerous than a maze? Especially if you were more of a predator than prey.
Somewhere in the distance, a little light appeared. Lightning bugs did not shine during the daylight hours, so what could it be? Every now and then it bobbed in different directions - shimmering here, twinkling there. You followed it, naturally. What source of light could be summoned by anyone else but the God of the Sun himself? And surely, any imposter, would meet their due end by his righteous flames.
Suddenly, the light disappeared, leaving you alone in the trees with naught but the filtered light winking between fiery, dying leaves.
A tree suddenly burst into flames on your left, the conflagration not spreading but strong enough to be disconcerting. That was when the little light appeared again - this time directly in front of your face. It bobbed up and down before sending itself straight into the fire, causing a minor explosion.
Gaucho had been patrolling alone as of late. While no one in his herd would come right out and say it, their hesitation made it clear. You did kill all of those horses... And it was true. By the powers of the Goddess of the Moon, many had died under his hooves. While Gaucho wasn't entirely sure whether his herd should remain so fearful, he let them. The powers that be were fickle and not easily argued against. Besides, he was more than capable of patrolling on his own. He didn't need their assistance, and, with Vorsa and Mara with him constantly, did not need their companionship either.
Through the Woods Gaucho stalked. The recent attempt on Maren had given him extra reason to prowl the shadowy depths. Only these depths weren't so shadowy...
Out of the corner of his gaze Gaucho saw a flash of light, followed by another, and another. His antlered skull turned towards what he assumed to be an illusion. From his side, Vorsa trilled happily, silently requesting permission to follow. Knowing the phoenix was old enough (ish) to make her own decisions, Gaucho mentally shrugged. The small fire-bird set off in a flare of bright and hot flames, with Gaucho and Mara in pursuit. Ahead, Vorsa came to a halt, a sad sound leaving her beak as she landed upon a tree. The light had disappeared, and the phoenix was taking it personally. Emotions of sadness and loss wafted towards Gaucho through their bond, but it was largely ignored. The chick's feelings were not his priority now; identifying where the light went, was.
Suddenly, the tree to his left burst into flames, Gaucho the dun to jump to the side to face the burning wood. Seemingly at the same moment, he felt joy beam from Vorsa, who had caught sight of the light once again. Her mind thrummed with pleasure as she trilled towards the little light, only to watch it explode as it entered the blaze. Gaucho retreated a step or two, covering his face with a burning wing to prevent bits of tree from flying his direction. Lowering his wing back to his flank, the Wildfire stared into the blaze. There was no fear apparent on his features, only attentiveness. If this was to be some sort of monster - like the one he had faced on the beach all those seasons ago - then he would be ready. Silently, Mara agreed, while Vorsa continued to sulk about the loss of her plaything.

If this is to end in fire
Then we should all burn together
Like a beacon a second flame erupted in the distance, leading you deeper and deeper into the forest. A third. A fourth. A fifth. The trees seemed to almost bend inward toward each other, and if you stood back and looked, you would notice that they traveled in a perfectly straight line, and the universe was (very subtly) leaning in this field, this invisible magnet string.
One you saw it, it was horribly apparent. Everything was leading to a center, some center.
You followed the line, and the world changed. Helovia seemed to fall away, familiar landmarks of this fantastical forest and beautiful landscapes turned to ash. Darkness worked from the edges of your vision, forcing a dark, washed out tint to the new, changing landscape. Looking back, you saw where it began to fade: where Helovia ended and this place... whatever it was... began.
There was a darkness in the middle. Something not right. Something... indefinable. You had a choice now. Go back to Helovia - safely guard your herd. Go into the darkness, and perhaps, never return. Or, stray from the straight path, and perhaps, get completely lost.
Three heads snapped towards the second burst of light in unison. Gaucho eyed the burning tree directly before him, peering into the light and letting it burn and blur his vision. If something was going to come out ... would it come out here? Or further down? As he contemplated this more light - more fires - began to appear. Whatever it was, it was drawing him deeper in. Perhaps it was a trap, some monster luring him farther and farther away. Even so, Gaucho would not cry off now. Evil slipped far too easily into Helovia, coddled by sympathetic or cowardly minds. Gaucho possessed neither. Whatever darkness hid in the light would be found. He would not be a pawn again.
Picking up an energetic canter, he followed the trail of light. It was Mara who noticed the linear pattern of the ignited trees - Gaucho had been too focused on spotting anything threatening to notice the geometric path they were on.
Sssstraight She whispered into his mind, bringing into powerful focus what should have been obvious - and yes, like others who traveled the path of the beam before - once it was seen, it was painfully obvious. Noticing the darkness took a little longer - Gaucho merely assumed that the washed out aspect at the corners of his vision was just an effect of staring into the burning light. However through Mara and Vorsa's eyes, he saw that they too had noticed the world growing dark even when their gazes were averted from the flames.
Still, he would not cry off. How many others had been in these Woods, seen the burning effigies, and done nothing about it? How long had this darkness persisted? How far did this altered landscape go?
Gaucho would follow the path of light that led into the indescribable darkness. Would he ever make it out? Time would tell; there would be water if ka willed it.
