The little Prince had grown swiftly, now he moved about on those long legs with a growing grace, his little head held with a pride that seemed to be a permanent trait of the boy. The owlet, having grown himself and yet still remained nameless, glided alongside his bondmate, making no sound save the softest rustling of feathers that was barely audible to the ears. The owl's feathers had all but grown in, the only remainder of chick-fluff residing around the disk of his face, giving him a strange, bristled appearance.

Hawke himself had grown more into his own; he was still a child, however already there was the beginning signs of growth that would lead to his height matching that of his sire's; already he stood over Aelin, and was thicker-set than her. However he was not concerned at the present with comparisons in height to his twin(who had strangely gone missing. However since Father was not concerned, he wasn't either. Admittedly.... it felt wrong without her with him. Strange. He didn't quite like it.). Right now he was concerned with trotting across the sands towards a destination... he didn't know. There was a constant restlessness within the colt, one that drove him day in and day out to the edge of the Throat, where he had once seen a wingless fly across the sea on wings of fire. He knew the path well enough; traveling it once had been plenty, for his mind recorded the path with crystal-sharp clarity.

He stood there now, gaze lifted towards the land beyond, a wavering thing in the warmth of the desert. Despite the shift in seasons it was still... warm on the sands, yet it was not immune to the strange weather. Not too long ago Hawke had witnessed his first sandstorm, and found the experience... disturbing. The way the wind howled and moaned was unsettling, the feel of sand invading every crevice and orifice as you raced towards shelter was terrifying(and insanely itchy), and being packed with dozens of others in cramped shelter like sardines in a can was just downright annoying.

The owl perched upon Hawke's rump, his obsidian gaze flickering down towards the small burn scar that decorated Hawke's croup, the first of many scars who's inflictors would never be forgotten. After all, it was not in Hawke's nature to forget. The situation had the owl bristling, his dark eyes glittering darkly. Let the white-scaled offender dare to mark his bondmate again, she would be met with razor-sharp talons and a tearing beak. No longer was he a hatchling, unable to defend his still-young bonded; now he was large for a male of his species, and while the dragon might be bigger and possess fire... he was confident in his power, as most adolescents are.

"You. What is beyond the sea?" 'You' had become the owl's nickname, for Hawke had yet to actually name the creature, for he simply... didn't know what to call him. A name had to be perfect, and so far Hawke had not found a name fitting for the one who shared his mind and soul. The owl turned his head towards the sea, his strong, steady thoughts swirling slowly as he mulled it over. He did not know either, and made that clear through their bond as he looked to Hawke. The boy mulled that over, his gaze drifting back to the landmass, that ever-present flame of inquisition burning brightly within his chest, an urge to know, to absorb knowledge and quench his thirst for it.

"Go. Be safe." The owl whirred softly before launching off Hawke's rump silently, his broad wings cutting through the air as he ascended, and Hawke watched as his bonded wheeled higher and higher into the sky, his neck craned back almost to the point of pain but he cared not. A longing to join his beloved in the sky tugged at him, and his downy wings fluttered softly, instinctively. Soon enough the owl had vanished from sight, although Hawke could still feel him in his mind, though the connection felt more diluted the further he went.

Tail swishing, Hawke waited for his companion to return, the waves of his prison lapping at his hooves.

She had been waiting for the boy, though not for long. Every day she had noticed as he came to her section of the earth, to her duchy and stand there, as if expecting something to happen. The child amused the elemental, and confused her at the same time. However now was not the time to dwell upon such things, for soon enough the boy came trotting into view once again, his owl gliding beside him, and once more he stood at the edge of the water, his gaze riveted on the mainland across the sea.

The elemental could vividly recall the 'pain' as her sisters fell to the sea, exploded without care, their living creatures drowned, their plants swallowed by the relentless ocean. In fact... the boy bore resemblance to the Destroyer, those markings were eerily similar, as was the way the boy held himself. Anger for her fallen sisters welled within the elemental, and she quickly took possession of the nearest thing to release her rage upon the boy. He would pay for the sins of his sire!

"OY! YOU!" She screeched, feeling her thousand thorns rustle with her fury as she reached for him. "HOW DARE YOU LOOK SO SMUG AND HAPPY! YOUR FAULT! ALL OF IT! YOUR SIRE'S FAULT! She screamed, though paused when she couldn't reach the boy, confused as to why that was. In her haste to lay into him, she had indeed taken the form of the nearest living thing to her wraith-like form; a cactus. Embarrassment flooded the elemental, and she flailed her arms in a desperate attempt to tear into him with those spines before giving up, muttering obscenities under her breath(well, closest thing she came to anyway), before she straightened. Young elemental she may be, but she was determined to draw him to justice, perhaps drawing his sire to her as well, and then she could somehow summon the Earth God to deal with the fool that would so easily obliterate an ecosystem.

"You! You boy, who is your sire!" She had to be sure though, sure that this child was indeed the son of the Destroyer, the 'Wildfire', the Obliterator, the Wrecker of Life.... really she could go on and on with names(not like she had anything else to do, she was an immortal elemental, after all).

Aelin

Dreams paint the sky in the brightest colours. They are the dreams of crimson, gold, ivory and violets. Mixing together and creating the most beautiful colour show known to none but the Dreamwalker.

She looked so much like her papa, yet she hardly ever saw her. She barely even knew about her other siblings! Except Hawke. Little baby Hawke whom she adored with every single bone in her body, he would be the most special soul in her life...probably forever! Over the past few months she had grown, her legs had moved from tiny little stumpy things to longer, lengthy and elegant stems. Her body and mind had also matured, not only was she taller but she was a slightly less childish in her thoughts. Her colour hadn't changed much since her birth, perhaps her legs where a little darker and her coat a little brighter. Still Aelin was very much herself and as usual she was looking for one of two things : trouble or her brother.

Having not seen for twin for sometime, she was quite curious to see how much he had grown! Perhaps he would be taller than her already! Before she had never paid much mind to how much or little her brother stood over her, instead it was more about who could pull each other's hair the hardest. Today she was exploring the sands again, searching for her brother. Perhaps he was still with their mother, at the time of their birth and indeed a little after she had been much braver than he! As luck would have it she spied a figure in the distance, picking up her hooves she hurried towards the stranger to meet them, only she quickly realised that it was not a stranger.

Finally she had found Hawke.

Letting out a squeal of pure delight Aelin began to bolt towards her twin, before she was evem within shouting distance she dbegan possibly screaming for her twin. "HAWKE!!" The dream walking princess' voice was still very high pitched and childish despite her recent growth. Another squeal of delight sounded from the young girl as she hurried over to him. He stood there staring out towards the land beyond, which was curious...perhaps they should swim across the sea together and enter the other lands! Discover what was out there.a wavering thing in the warmth of the desert. Despite the shift in seasons it was still... though that would probably displease father and mother greatly. Aelin had never been the 'good' child, she enjoyed adventure and danger.

Once again the owl was accompanying her brother. In the beginning she had not understood the bond and until she actually had a companion of her own she would not know how it felt. Yet she knew that the owl hardly left her brother's side and that the creature kept Hawke safe. Something Aelin could only be grateful for...it meant that she didn't have to do it all the time. One day the filly would get a companion of her own and then she would also have the good fortune to experience the joy of being bonded to another soul. Until then however her brother would just have to put up with her. You can imagine the shock she felt as the owl took off however. Not that she was complaining- it would allow her to greet her brother in peace. "Hawke!" She called again, begging to be heard this time. "Hawke! Brother!"

Yet as she arrived at her brother side a strange voice filled her ears, turning she quickly realised that a (kid you not) cactus was screaming at them. She couldn't help it, a cactus was screaming at them furious about something their father had done. "How is it Hawke's fault it is our sire's fault?" Aelin asked the enraged bush, she felt quite smug at the question. Again it was screaming at them, asking who their sire was.

HONESTLY!

One minute this bush knows everything about them and the next it has to ask who their father is. It was most confusing! Aelin tilted her head to the side, staring at the strange plant.

He was not left alone long ere a squeal had the lad spinning on his heels, wings flaring out and head tossing into the air, but he did not reply his beloved twin's whinny with one of his own; no, he was angry at her, and made it known as his ears pinned back when she drew close, crystal-blue eyes drawn into narrow slits of disapproval as she halted before him.

"Where you go?" He asked, disapproval just dripping from his voice. He might not have been afraid, but that didn't mean he didn't worry about her. She was reckless, wild... honestly if you looked at them you would think that Hawke would be the wild-child, with his strange attraction to bones and undying curiosity to shove his nose into e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. Yet no, Aelin, the sweet-looking little girl was the crazy one. He wasn't given time to scold her as a... cactus began to...yell...

Hawke's gaze turned, dumbfounded as he stared at the flailing cacti, jaw actually going slack as his mind just... shorted out. Yep. Nope. Not possible, not happening, bye-bye brain function. It was Aelin's words that kick-started the boy's mind, and he lept forward, using his long neck and head to push Aelin back, away from the ta-...ta-... okay there had to be someone hiding behind the cactus. Otherwise Hawke was just... yeah no, someone was hiding back there.

"Gaucho is our sire. What do you want with us?" He demanded, wings flared, one covering Aelin in case the... the person behind the cactus shook it again and tried to hurt them. Ears pinned back against a curly mane, Hawke's tail lashed against his rump, nostrils flaring as he let out a snort. Quickly they were joined by Owl, who landed silently upon Hawke's croup, regarding the cactus with his wide, dark eyes. Even he was downright stumped by the situation, his head tilting nearly completely upside-down in his confusion.

Wait, there were two of the brats now? The elemental was taken a-back, spines rustling as the cactus pulled it's 'arms' closer to itself. The newest upstart, a girl snarks back at the elemental, and she reaches out to slap the insolent child with a spiny arm, but the boy pushed her away, and the spines whizzed harmlessly before Aelin's face. "Like father like son. He will destroy the earth just as his father did!" The boy confirmed her suspicion, and once more she reached to strangle him with her spiny arms.

"What do I want? I want your father to answer for the death of those unable to protect themselves, for the death of the Strait Elemental! Your kind care nothing for the earth, with your fire and destruction and chaos!" She shrieked, recoiling when she realized the pair were out of reach, spiny arms crossing. "Though you are children... but I cannot allow you to grow up as monsters like the one that destroyed the land bridge!" She waved her arms, and the sand beneath the foals's hooves began sucking at their feet, trapping them and drawing them further into it's embrace.

The elemental watched impassively as the quicksand ensnared the children, her spines rattling sharply in fury and mourning. They were the Wildfire's children. They would be, like his other spawn, children of Fire. Fire was death, destruction, chaos, everything she, as an Earth elemental, was against. As she watched, a string of pity ran through her. Perhaps it would be kinder to give them a quicker death...

Truth? Well she had been expecting Hawke to join in the festivities and be at least happy to see her. Not...this. Two beautiful blue eyes narrowed in display of his disapproval as she halted before him. Tossing her head she meekly stared back at her brother, wings drooping at her sides as she waited for the scolding she knew was coming. Sighing she waited, watching him fully expecting him to kick her ass to the ground (while looking very much like father!), she barely had time to resigster the sudden changes to the plant life around them.

Disapproval was just dripping from his voice! Aelin scoffed slightly then allowed her gaze to drop, perhaps she had been far too reckless this time. "I was...ya know...out." Looking for trouble. "I'm sorry Hawke. I won't do it again, I promise on the bond of our twinship." Having no idea if that was even a thing did not lessen the weight behind her promise because she meant it. Never again would she allow her brother to worry about her and if she was in danger or not. Digging a hoof into the sand at least she had the decency to look ashamed for causing her brother to be concerned about her safety and well being. And to think she didn't even bring him back a gift! Still, she supposed, it wasn't like she could just pop into a gift shop and find him something nice.

Once the plant had screamed at her everything had been going quite well. She was supplying much needed sass and brains when all of a sudden Hawke leapt forward. Using his long neck and head, he pushed Aelin back causing her to stumble and nearly fall on her (royally annoying) backside. Spines whizzed harmlessly past her causing an indignant shout of "HEY!" and her tongue being stuck out at the bush. "Watch it Spikey." Still she couldn't help the bright smile that parted her chops, after all the worry she had put him through, her brother still loved her and would not hesitate to use his own body to protect hers. Carefully she peered around Hawke's out stretched wing, wondering why her brother didn't just step on the talking bush. Instead he was responding to it's questions...lacking the sass that Aelin had provided just before.

Hawke's ears were pinned back against his curly mane, while his tail lashed against his rump, and he let out a snort. Aelin wondering if perhaps they were in more danger than what she had first thought, so she remained quite for now as she watched the talking bush. Quickly they were joined by Hawke's owl, who landed silently upon Hawke's croup, the creature began to regard the cactus...even he seemed to be confused by the situation. "Take it you've never seen a talking bush before either?" Aelin whispered softly to the owl.

Seriously? Being blamed for something their father may or may not have done? That was pretty bloody unfair. "I'd like to speak to father...you're a liar!" Yeah. They weren't going anywhere. Horrifyingly enough the sand beneath both of their hooves began sucking, trapping them and drawing them further into it's embrace. Aylin had no magic, no fighting skills...nothing. Did Hawke? Hopefully, because only he could save them now. "HAWKE! HAWKE IT'S GOT ME!" Sheer bloody panic. Attempting to wrench her hooves out of the sand only caused her legs to sink in deeper. "PLEASE! I'M SORRY! PLEASE STOP!" Aelin pleaded with the bush, she didn't want to die...not now, not ever! Yet her brother was still in front of her, he was stronger than her! He could save himself surely. "HAWKE, RUN!! GET AWAY FROM IT!!" Prehaps he would be strong enough to get out of the quick sand, maybe he could run and find father and kill this stupid talking bush.

This situation was just....not computing with Hawke. At all. At the cactus's words he frowned, confused before he blinked, feeling something sticky on his feet. Startled he looked down juat as the owl screeched and took flight to get aid, knowing what ensnared the doomed foals.

Aelin's scream of terror cut Hawke like a thousand knives. Her pleas for him to help tore him apart, and a furious squeal tore from the boy as he thrashed, fighting to get free and help Aelin, but every jerky movement drew him deeper into the earth. A veil of pulsing read covered his vision, driven wild by Aelin's sobs. Heat boiled in his chest, and with a roar he felt it explode, the magic of bonerot and decay lashing out around them, sparing none with bones.

Not even Aelin.

Strength fled the boy, and he collapsed onto the sand, feeling it suck at his jaw. His sides heaved, panting as he fought back to his feet, but couldnt get up. The sand had reached his belly by now, and he pulled his head free, turning his neck as far as it could go to press his muzzle against Aelin's shoulder.

If it was their time to die, he would do his best to keep her calm until the end.

She had the female brat within her grasp, annoyingly it began squealing for it's sibling. It was for their own good, others wise they would become killers - this was the right thing to do. Continuing to manipulate the sand under the foal's hooves, she began pulling them down into the earth. They were going to pay for the loss of her family. An eye for an eye. "Be quiet and accept your fate!" It didn't matter how much they fought her, at the end of this battle they would be completely at her mercy. Their father would know her pain, their mother would know her pain and their siblings would know her pain. The girl had sunk down to her knees and the boy was also still within her grasp. "This was not my choice! Your father started this fight but I am intent on finishing it."

So she continued sucking away the sand, pulling the twins towards their death. It would all be over much more quickly if they just accepted their fate. "Give in to me, death is the gift I am granting you."

The boy’s companion screeched and took flight, perhaps he would find others who could help…but the help would only arrive to find two empty shells. There would be nothing left of the two squealing mutts.

Nothing.

The girl stirred the boy into action, fighting against her grasp, thrashing and fighting to get free. The girl continued to plead with the boy, begging him to take flight. The brat had yet to realised that there would be no escape for her or the boy. With every jerky the boy fell deeper into the earth, into her domain.

But something strange was happening within the boy.

With an almighty roar he allowed the magic within him to explode.

Suddenly everything about her form wilted, in this form she had no bones but when she had entered the cactus traits from her old body remained. She couldn’t help the anguished cry that escaped her, as her hold on the children weakened and then she was shoved out of the cactus, unable to see what happened to the brats. Yet a smug feeling filled her for as the boy’s magic had been expelled from him, she had not been the only one hit.

The girl had collapsed, her crumpled form lay against the earth, not moving, no signs of life.

Her duel coloured eyes settled on her brother, he fought but he was calm. Either he would save them or together they would perish on this day. Aelin stopped creaming and simply settled for quiet sobbing. "I love you Hawke." Her voice rattled out these last words shakily but that was how the girl would like to end, with nothing but love on her mind. The demons running through her thoughts would not defeat her...although the physical battle was well and truly lost. Hawke always had her back and even in death he would stay with her until the very last moment. Having sunk chest deep she raised her eyes and studied the world above her, the brilliant sky and the sun that had blessed their very existence. Still struggling to breath with shaking breaths, Aelin closed her eyes and allowed an acceptance to seep through her body. This was the end but at least she and Hawke were together.

Having stood there with her eyes closed she had not seen the fight her brother began, did not hear him struggling against the grasping hand of death. It was his roar of power, the fury and absolute desperation that exploded from him. Aelin's eyes snapped open, she had a split second to gasp and stare at Hawke before the magic exploded from him as well and Aelin was hit with the full brunt of his ability. Suddenly she collapsed against the group, her bones no longer able to support her weight. A scream of horror pierced the air, it was all becoming too much. The earth caught her in it's hard gasp, she could not even struggle to lift her legs out of the earth that still held on to her limbs. Feeling the touch of hot brother she whimpered, still praying that the strength would return to her soon, it was as if her bones had been sapped of all their strength, they'd become old and useless. "Hawke." Her voice was raspy from all of the screaming. "Help me." With her vision blurring whenever she tired to move she simply waited for her brother.

"Help me." The girl whispered again, staring out at the Throat. Rugged breathing while pain surged through her body. It felt like any movement would cause her bones to shatter, all that needed to happen to break her legs was a slight wrong movement.

It was not Hawke's fault, he had not meant for this to happen. Surely he would figure out a way to fix her? He would be able to reverse whatever he'd done to her body and she'd be as good as new. For Aelin he brother was the answer, whatever she needed, whatever happened, Hawke was the constant that she always returned to. There was no doubt in her mind that this time would be no different.

For only she can see the beauty of true desires.
I guess jealousy's the curse that the struggle inspires.
