Ki’irha
The new corporal patrolled her home. White against blue, blue against white, she was an obvious figure in this snowy landscape. She trotted along, tracing the jagged borders of the Basin, her stark white mane fluttering behind her like a banner. The promotion had been a surprise to the newcomer, who had just recently arrived to the Basin. But once a warrior, always a warrior, and Ki'irha felt right in place with her new rank. Her patrols and wanderings so far had been easy. No one had wandered into her waiting horn and pointed hooves, at least not yet. But she had not yet grown complacent. A trespasser could wander in at any time if laziness settled in, and the blue mare refused to let that careless soul be her. The light from the moon provided a pallid glow to the landscape. Like a haunt, she still moved along, nothing but her soft breath and delicate hoof beats betraying her location on the tundra. She heard the gentle beat of wings, probably an owl or hawk, which she almost ignored. She came to a slow stop, listening closely, and realized the noise was too loud to be from the bird of prey. Her nostrils flared, and her eyes grew steely and cold. She spun on cloven toes, and advanced deeper into the night. Hidden in a small grove of pines, the midnight warrior watched a winged beast circle, descending towards the frozen earth. Ears twisted and lay flat against her head, and her muscles tightened, coiled, braced. She tracked the pitch black creature, the raven fae silhouetted against the darkness of the night. The opposing mare seemed to be made of shadow, which made the star coated mare even more wary and defensive. "What do you call yourself, other than intruder," she hissed, skewer pointed towards the stranger. The opposing mare was smaller than she, but Ki'irha would make sure she was out of the way of the monstrous wings. She snorted, digging a single onyx toe into the ground.
