Oh, so she was less intelligent than expected.
It would have been so easy, for this mare to simply touch down and follow him out. But no, she insisted on staying, she insisted on resisting. What a fool, to underestimate his loyalty, to think he might give in.
Ashamin stepped forward, letting his forehoof stamp in the snow upon approach. He looked up at her, eyes narrowed ever so slightly, tone growling with something unfamiliar. He would still be polite. He would give her one last chance.
And after that, all bets were off.
"Please leave," Ashamin warned firmly, doing his best to hide the shaking in his voice. Would he have to make her, chase her off? He wasn't sure he had that in him.
And luckily for him, he didn't have to find out. Hotaru's voice, dulcet and strong, came to him like a saving grace. He turned back slightly to see her standing where he had been and beside their corporal, proud and tall as always, with Alice at her side. He didn't know much about her, but he hoped they'd have an opportunity to talk soon, later. He watched the faint light shimmer in her blond mane, nodded respectfully to her rank if nothing else. She spoke reasonably, offering the mare a chance to land if she wished to converse.
The paint took a step back, a slow and careful one. He would let Hotaru handle this... situation, this mess. She was more accustomed to this role than he, let her take charge of it. And if she called upon him, or if this mare resisted, he was right beside her: long tail snaking across the earth, black eyes focused, and heart pounding against the cold.
If he had to, he would fight.
