something filled up my heart with nothing

The apparition had been strange enough.

That it was changing along its way, carrying some sort of weird spark in its ghostly grasp, stranger still. As soon as you had seen it you had, without really even realizing it, and despite the weather, decided to follow the little thing, shifting through bodies too quickly to recognize a single one of them through the billowing snow. The cold does not bother you near as much as you thought it would. Your body shivers against it, but it is more of a welcome chill than anything else, maybe because it made you feel numb to the tiredness that has always been. It is the wet and the wind that creates a spark of hope as you espy the mouth of a cave in stark contrast with all the white, the wisp disappearing into its darkness.

You follow it willingly, your curiosity and the promise of shelter pushing you a little faster. It is only as you begin ascending on a slight slope that you see the walls painted with a strange orange light, very, very faint voices reaching out from within, being swallowed whole by the wind. You slow but continue anyways, the shape of a mare forming, followed by the ghost and a painted man of alabaster and Indian ink, along with a little deer.

She calls to him, the painted stranger you do not know, naming a name that you tuck within some corner of your mind, along with his face and the little new-born deer dancing with the ghost you had followed. You find yourself shoulder to shoulder with the star-skinned mare, proffering a friendly smile as she continues to speak. A pang of guilt hits you at the mention of her twigs, the desire for shelter. It is cold, but you had lost your plans to stay the moment you had noticed it occupied. She is bold where you are timid, observing the self-inflicted manners that, strangely, left you with no problem with showing up unannounced, no greeting or hello given besides a benevolent smile, but thought it rude to invite yourself in to their shelter.

Yeah, makes perfect sense.
