Elsa,
Feel lucky for what you have, when you have it. Happily ever after doesn’t mean happy forever.

His attempt at a joke was not lost on Elsa, but she surely did not appreciate it. Her eyes narrowed as she glared down at him. If she was a skyrat, then technically he was a skyrat with a horn. Out of the two, he would undoubtedly look the most… odd. Why was he allowed in the Basin in the first place? As far as she was aware, those endowed with anything but a horn were considered “impure” or whatever else they wanted to call it. I guess they’ve gotten so desperate as to consider housing horned skyrats.

Yet her glare, and her ominous outburst did nothing to sway his interest. Caleb was still intent on sneaking her into the Basin. A part of her, down from within, burned to go. She wanted to see, to feel, why were they so choosy? Why was everyone else not good enough for them? Edgar hissed quietly, sounding like a scratching purr. The idea of them going there, even with a Basin escort seemed stupid- just because she was with Caleb would not stop one of lords or ladies to attempt to crush her. She knew that Caleb would not try to save her, because it would be stupid if he did. All that would do would jeopardize his position and home in the Basin. He had not left thus far so he obviously had to enjoy it at least slightly.

But if he was so tired of horns, then why hadn’t he left? The Edge, Falls and Throat alike would not turn him away at their gates. The Edge even more so- her homeland was empty and practically begging to get numbers. They were sitting ducks if either of the other herds decided they wanted to take another chunk of land. It seemed so suspicious that he wanted her to go to the Basin. Maybe they were trying to trap her, because obviously someone from the Basin had to have seen her during the invasion.

”If you want variety, why don’t you just come to the Edge?” Her voice fell flat, but she was interested to hear what he had to say. Could he come up with a good, honest, believable answer? ”I want to go, but I do not wish to lose another eye, Caleb. I would be going into hostile territory un-invited. Last time I heard your leaders were not the kindest of beings. The horns that you are so bored of, they grant you protection, unlike me.” Edgar chirped in agreement. It didn’t matter how little they actually knew of the Basin, but that fatal interaction so many months ago had branded a stereotype into her mind. No horn meant no entry. ”And the last thing I want to do is give the Edge a bad name. I have just acquired a position there and I don’t intend to lose it.” Her voice was stern and she slashed her tail back in forth in a sign of aggression. She would not give up the one gift she was given in return for all of her disasters. So why did he have to make it sound so damn enticing?
