Rhea's dramatic approach does more than impress someone very nearby.
As her hooves impact the ice and snow, a roar shakes the air around them, these two creatures who do not seem to be quite like the others in the mountain valley, and the dark stranger skirting the shadows; from the dark of the tree line, the pounding of something running sends wildlife skittering out of the trees and branches flying through the air.
Bursting through the evergreen in spray of dislodged ice, snow, and emerald branches, a hulking figure charges on four limbs, its hairless, blue toned face filled with rage, lips pulled taut to reveal jagged, yellow teeth. Clinging to its shaggy white pelt are clumps of snow, and it smells very strongly of damp filth.
It stops a yard or so before the three herd mates, rising onto its hind legs, one of its thick, pale blue hands lifting a severed pine branch from the ground as it does so and brandishing at the hybrids and the unicorn violently. A spray of snow, propelled at the horned horses by his sliding stop, swirls and eddies in the cold mountain wind around him.
He is young, the angry creature, and stressed; the heavy snow this year has forced him to leave his usual abode and find another, and his search has not gone well. He is hungry, tired, and just plain frustrated. That he has wandered into someone else's land doesn't seem to be something that has crossed his mind as of yet, and even if it did...
Would a yeti really care?
