Mother hated it when she wandered, especially when she left the World's Edge. But she couldn't help it. She couldn't suppress the deep ache to roam from spreading through her. In truth, she came by it honestly. If one could find a genetic link for it, she is certain it would be there within her blood. Father is nomadic at heart and mother used to be as well, though it seems she's settled down. Mother would never reprimand her for wandering off, though, but even that didn't soothe the guilt in her mind.

Causing her mother stress wasn't exactly at the top of her list of things to do.
It just happened.

With the small fuzzy, green bird on her shoulders and her wings hugging her sides, the filly heads towards the remnants of the glass wall. She hesitates a moment, as she usually does, then hops over the broken glass and heads east. Her journey is a slow one, with no real purpose or direction. Instead she pauses where she wills, the flowers sprouting up thickly beneath her until she wanders off. The blooms, she discovers, last longer in spring but they are still dependent upon her. When she moves away, they still wilt then shrivel up and die. The young girl sighs softly as she watches their passing and then with something akin to sorrow in her teal eyes, she continues east. She passes just south of the Falls, where father now lives, and carefully picks her way through the thick trees of the deep forest.

Soon the slender chocolate and white filly is within the threshold - a place her mother used to frequent. This quaint forest was the place that everyone came through. It was the Ellis Island of Helovia. It didn't matter where anyone came from but anyone new to Helovia arrived here first. Here, she knew, was where the herds came to convince strangers to join their ranks. See, mother, she did pay attention. Naerys always paid careful attention. Unwilling as she was to let any bit of information slip past her without it being locked away in her brain. As she aged, she found it easier and easier to remember more things.

Some things were difficult to forget. Like father leaving and mother's occasional nightmares. But it was the family history she had been most interested in. Father's was complex and confusing to the young girl (isn't death permanent?) but mother's was easier to comprehend and remember. Aly told her of her aunt, Iona, and all of their adventures (minus the terrifying and gore-y stuff, of course). So when the filly came upon a black and white pegasus, clearly anxious or impatient in the threshold - she can't take her eyes off of her and yet, she can't will herself to move just yet.

The purple and white flowers spring up around her hooves as she stands, quietly observing. A bell sounded in the deepest reaches of her mind but she finds herself unable to pinpoint why. Snorting softly, she glances over to the bird on her shoulder. Pale eyes meet hers, echoing the curiosity she felt. His affirmation was all it took to unglue her hooves from where they were, rooted amongst her flowers. Moving towards the painted mare, she whinnies gently - simultaneously announcing her presence and greeting the mare.

She slows to a stop in front of the other, teal eyes focusing on her face. The passionflowers grow and bloom around her hooves, though their growth goes unnoticed by the filly. "Hello." she speaks, her voice soft and sweet. "I'm Naerys, from the World's Edge. Who are you?" she adds warmly, then falls silent. Naerys is far quieter than she used to be but she's had to grow up a little faster than most.
