Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.
Unfortunately, for the petite mare, they made the long trek to Edge during the warmer part of the day. It was Birdsong, so the days weren’t nearly as hot as they would get in Tallsun (or so the elephant assumed, for he had not yet spent a Tallsun in Helovia). Though, to the stud, the slight sweat on his flanks and patchy perspiration on his neck was a relief after the long Frostfall and delayed warmth Birdsong.

Though he was careful to swing his massive strides slowly- for he often had the habit of marching quickly toward home. He had already lost one mare on the way from the Threshold, he wasn’t about to repeat that mistake.

A slight, inward grimace overtook him as he thought of accidentally leaving Whisper to birth alone. Thank the gods Brisa had been there.

He swept his trifling chagrin aside, turning his head towards the mare of caramel highlights. In the sun, they seemed so glow, playing with the eyes, catching the gaze, drawing one in. So the elephant found his own, blue gaze caught as they broached the shattered remains of the glass wall. And, due to his distracted eyes, he found one of his large hooves tripping over a particularly jagged piece of broken glass.

“Ooff-” his surprised grunt was cut short as his abdomen and haunches tensed to stop himself from tumbling into the deadly glass. Luckily, the piece he had tripped on fragmented beneath the hooves of the herd’s Glazier. Unluckily, his recovery from his bungled steps was clunky and landed him among many smaller, harder to navigate pieces.

He looked back to Sol with an embarrassed, lopsided grin. “Watch your step through the glass,” he stated unnecessarily, humor in his rumbling voice. “I’ll be just-” he started to pick his way through the glass, “just a few-” he picked very carefully with his large hooves, “steps behind- ah- you-…” a few strands of his tail snagged the razor edges. His resigned sigh turned into an amused snort and he glanced once up at Sol before returning his eyes to the glass mess he was in. “Welcome to the Edge,” the ironic drama in his murmured words was laced with humor at himself.

The ground glimmered just like the sun, making her eyes have to squint as she moved among the sharp pieces. There was so many shards, there had to have been something big to have happened to take down this much glass. This made her a little uneasy as Tembovu had promised her safety, but she had already come all this way. She was too tired and too weak to turn back now. She needed to stick this out, besides she would be safer surrounded by others anyway.

Sweat began to build again, the sun and the reflections from the glass heating everything all at once. Sadly, her pace had slowed even more, but not as much as Tembovu. She watched from the corner of her eye as he tried to maneuver through the pieces. His large body weight shifting in odd places accommodating to the strange steps that needed to be taken through this mine field of deadly shards.

She had just turned away to focus on her path more than her traveling companions awkward struggle, when she heard a crash of a large amount of glass. She stopped mid step and looked over, she saw the stallion lying among smaller pieces, as if he was laying on pieces of the sky. Tembovu seemed to be alright, thankfully. If he needed some assistance, she was unsure if her small weak body, could move his large one. She knew she didn't have the strength and not to mention the piercing ground that would also pose more of a challenge for such a situation.

Tournesol giggled at his hilarity in this interesting occurence. She waited for him to gather himself up off the ground. "Thank you for the...erm...most interesting welcome." She laughed some more.

This place began to grow in her heart already. Now she just needed to rest and then she could start helping out, figuring out her place in this new herd.

He chuckled at her words, “The pleasure was entirely mine, Sol,” his deep voice rumbled around the shortened version of her name. He liked it. It was simple, yet so warm and fulfilling to say.

Managing to make his way from the spattering of glass left on the ground, he offhandedly offerend an explanation, “Most of the glass is cleared, it’s a remnant of a large wall that used to circle our border. It’ll be replaced with glass spikes in due time,” his sweeping strides brought him alongside her as he spoke. His withers towered over hers, though he lowered his head to her level so as not to entirely dwarf the mare.

He started off towards the cliffs, as that was his ritual with welcoming new members. Not only should they see the cliffs in their beauty, but they should know where they were at for personal safety issues. It is not wise to be wandering through the mists without knowing where the sheer drop-off exists.

Flicking and ear and an eye towards the honeyed mare, he studies her. She is quiet, uncertain, though apparently wanting a purpose. “So, Sol, do you have a trade you already know? Like war, crafting, scheming, praying…?” His question is the art of easy conversation, “Or one that you would be interested in?” Though the questions are prying, his tone is not. He is happy to let this mare keep her secrets (as long as they are not dangerous to his herd). He is also happy to guide the mare towards a trade and members that will assist her in fulfilling that role.

The sun starts its decent in the sky as it has already reached it apex. Slowly starting is downward journey of afternoon light, the beginning of its surrender to the Edge’s evening goddess.
