something filled up my heart with nothing

Everything changes within moments. As her body stiffens your gaze sharpens, casting to the forest beyond the girl and her still frame, muscles tightening uneasily underneath russet skin. "Ki," it is soft as she moves forwards, a warning, the voice of reason that no one ever seems to listen to, concern laced thickly within the single syllable. You do not hesitate to follow after her, your heart beat ever so frantic in the face of the unknown, the possibility of a danger that neither of you know anything about. It is moments of this meandering on her part, worrying on yours, still before the scent that had caught her attention hits you: a distinct stench of infection and rot and death carried on a gust of wind, wrinkling your face and sending a tremor down along your spine. "Ki, we should turn around, it isn't safe—"

Your skin pricks in to goosebumps, your courage shrinking, shying away where hers only grows, shifts into something all too bold. As the corpse of the bear comes in to view your movements stop, head shaking slowly as your fears are set into reality, not just the worrying of a girl that worries too much about nothing, about everything. "Don't get too close," You recognize the froth of his mouth, an outline of white moreso than anything from where you stand, recognize the way every inch of his body is unkempt and disheveled, missing in spots and matted in others. You are certain that she, too, senses it as she gives the creature's body a wide berth.

As her scowl deepens, it coaxes you forwards, your steps quiet and flighty against the ground, eyes shutting as the image of his throat cut open, draining into the pool that he is laying in permeates your mind, stitches itself to the back of your eyelids. Perhaps it is a mercy that his death had been quick, rather than the agony that the disease he had caught would have brought him. Before long, her movements draw your attention once more, and you spare one last look at the once-powerful creature before moving slowly after her, muscles more tense than ever as you eye the trail of blood that she chose to follow. It is not what you were expecting as the trees peel away and the figure of another girl, a mix of shadow and ash, stands before the two of you. Immediately you are drawn to the cut that extends along her shoulder, concern flaring in your heart for the stranger. Even as Ki'irha speaks, falling still, you continue forwards, stopping just feet from her as your magic sparks to life, reaching out for the injured doe, with only the intent to heal, to remedy her hurts, to stop the potential infection from settling in, spreading.

Only once you are satisfied do you break away from your concentration, stumbling backwards to return some of her personal space. In another circumstance, another time, you might have asked if she even wanted help, but the thought of her succumbing to such a terrible sickness had pushed you to ignore such boundaries. "Sorry for the intrusion, I hope you understand it is only with the intention to help. I'm Enna, one of the Menders of a place called the Aurora Basin, and this is Ki'irha," A glance is thrown over your shoulder, a nod in the star-girl's direction. "She is one of the Corporals there." You fill in where your friend left off, trying not to overwhelm the girl with too much information all at once, but wanting to answer all the questions she must have at the same time. "This, however, is the Threshold, the only entrance—and exit—to Helovia, which is where you have found yourself" Pausing, a small smile plays at the corner of your lips, eyes seeking to meet hers.

"Welcome."
