Yes the God could see into the time streams, but no he didn't do it all the time, or even consistently pay attention to what he saw. And so it shouldn't seem counterintuitive that he could be surprised by Cathun's choice, much less shocked by it.
The God's jaw visibly dropped.
"Wow. So instead of a time-out, you'd rather selfishly tether her life to yours and continue to be a freak whose life is decided by a gawdy accessory." His lips pursed, his ears flickered, and he stomped a hoof. "Even though not five minutes ago, you told her that you didn't want her to waste your life for you. I guess dying for you is a-okay though?" The God stopped himself from continuing. Cathun had made his choice, and it wasn't the God's job to talk him out of it.
Looking to Ranjiri, he sighed patiently. "You have until the last day of Frostfall to return here a changed man" He shook his head gently, simultaneously wanting to apologize to the mare for the idiotic choices that Cathun had made, but also wanted to shake her and ask her what could have possibly drive her to accompany this baboon in the first place. But again, it didn't matter. Their lives were intertwined, and the reasons that brought them here were not his concern. "Once that is done, Cathun will have one season to fill his new necklace with the lives needed to keep you both alive."
With a sarcastic brightness, he looked to Cathun. "Well. Off you go. No time to waste, after all."
Cathun (and Ranjiri if she wants, but only Cathun needs to turn in the first part), must return before the last day of Frostfall, with his stories of others who have had it worse.
