Ashamin
The Haruspex was plagued. Even in this joyful time his mind was occupied, his thoughts swirling with chaos. All that had happened, all that had yet to happen, and here he was: wandering.
His companion led him forth; without Lochan's insistence, he likely would have stayed in his cave and moped. The evening with Rexanna had been so filled with passion that he could not forget, but having not seen or felt her since he had been given too much distance from the incident. Enough, that is, to second guess. What had that been borne of--passion? And what of his fight with Thranduil, had that all been rage? The emotions running high within him had lost control. After so long of being subdued, of struggling to even care, he found himself causing danger and hurt to others.
He just hoped, at least, that he hadn't hurt Rex. And when he saw her his heart lurched again, and he was reminded of all the time that had passed and how, perhaps, so little had changed within him. He saw her before anything else, moved towards her, wanted to touch--
But no. Her eyes were on another, her attentions focused. And it wasn't jealousy in him but maybe it was fear. Fear of discovering he had been a mistake, that he had misread their time together. So he turned instead to the turtle that danced with bells and lightness, the same sort of cheer that he was missing. And Ashamin followed his companion as he danced forward, so filled to the brim with a child's excitement that even the haruspex was forced to crack the fixed downturn of his lips.
Ashamin stayed at a distance, just watching. No good had come of his actions, not as of late. Perhaps it would be better if he didn't interfere just yet.
