Grusha liked the Throat well enough, but she wanted to see everything else that Helovia had to offer. She didn't like feeling like she was confined to one little sandy island in the middle of the ocean. Part of her suspected that her parents thought that she would stay put because she was still so young, but the girl hated to be idle. She always wanted to be moving or hunting and the bond she shared with Nashoba only strengthened that desire she had to hunt.

The first opportunity that Grusha got she took advantage of and slipped away from the watchful eyes of her parents (and anyone else that they had watching her). What did they expect of her? Did they not want her to long for adventure? Did they want her to be sheltered and protected from everything. Did they want her to grow into a yearling, still clinging to her mother's teat like her big brother? It was so not going to happen. Her parents could yell at her and scold her and try to punish her if they wanted to, but they would not be able to extinguish the desire she had to explore. They would not change who she was or mold her into what they wanted her to be.

Grusha had no particular destination in mind as she shoved her way through brush and under low-hanging tree branches. Every now and again she would feel a pull and hear a crack! as a twig broke off and stayed in the tangled, fuzzy mess that was her mane. Behind her Nashoba trotted (proudly) with a dead rabbit hanging from his jaws. Its head was smashed (thanks to Grusha) but it still made the pup happy. He and his bond mate were hunting together and he had a prize to show off.

"Come on Nathoba!" The girl called as she burst through a set of bushes, her hooves finding the back of a fat squirrel. It cracked and the squirrel squealed, but the sound was cut short by Nashoba's jaws around its tiny neck. "Good job." Grusha complimented the pup, who flopped down on the ground to begin his feast. "Don't meth the boneth up." She warned the pup with a stern look on her face. "I want them."

He hadn't been following her. At least, not really.

If anything, the dun was interested to see where his newest girls slipped off to when they thought no one was watching. They had a tendency to seek out places damp, dark, and mysterious, and always they returned home with something dead, or the bones of something. He got the impression that their youthful cunning when it came to hunting was not pleasing to Ampere (or Zero), but Gaucho didn't mind. Ivezho and Rhoa had been born so ... so passive. Rhoa had grown to fight when he needed to, but his heart was not that of a warrior. Zenobia seemed to prefer being scrappy, while Aelin and Hawke seemed to only find the company of each other pleasing.

Tae and Grusha on the other hand seemed to want to take life by the balls and do with it what they pleased. In this, they couldn't have been more of his daughters.

But their methods ... well.

It was surely Helovia's doing - and the Sun God's - that his children all possessed so much magic. Gaucho had not felt the magical twinge of magic in his veins until he had been in Helovia for a few seasons, and then it had only grown with constant dedication and service to their Lord. In response, his children had been blessed from an early age, and so their prowess from their infancy far exceeded what Gaucho had been capable of at the same age.

And so, he was interested to see what they could do. What they would do.

"Small animal, small bones. Easy to break." Gaucho grunted as he landed nearby. The woods of the Rotunda were not so thick that it was hard to follow the larger twin and her pup. Folding his flaming wings to his flanks, he eyed the wolf pup and its kill, before looking back to Grusha with a proud smile on his face. "But what bones for?"

Back in his homeland, bones had been traditionally for either weaponry or decoration - like the one that pierced his own nose. So what was Grusha collecting hers for?

Grusha had heard the beating of wings, so when her father landed and spoke she didn't flinch. If anything she was disappointed that he'd found her so quickly. There was no doubt in her young mind that he was going to tell her that she needed to go home, so when he only said that small animal bones were easy to break she tilted her head. She'd figured out fairly quickly that the smaller the animal the smaller the bones and the easier it was to break them. She didn't want to admit that she wasn't big enough or strong enough yet to take on something like a hog or a bear and kill it for its bones.

"I know." She said. "But I thill don't want him to break them." Then, of course, came the next question-- what were the bones for. "I collect them." Grusha replied as if it were the most normal thing in the world to collect, like rocks or leaves, or shells. She had a secret place in the Throat that only she and Tae knew about where she'd hidden a majority of the bones they'd collected in their travels. There were a few other places she had some hidden-- in the meadow and in the forest-- and if her father wasn't watching her right then she'd set up another secret place right there.

"I can... I can make thuff with them... control them." She whispered like it was a secret (don't tell Ma). She glanced around, looking for some abandoned bones so she could show her dad what she meant, but the only bones around were still covered in layers of muscle and flesh. Grusha snorted and looked back at her father and her blue eyes immediately focused on the bone in his nose.

It was better than nothing.

"Look..." She said and she focused on the bone. She wanted to wiggle it at first, but then she wanted to show her dad just how much power she had to control the bones. Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down. She attempted to move that nose bone and she tried to put enough force behind it that Gaucho's head would bob up and down.

His daughter's lisp was not something Gaucho had ever tried to correct, or anything that even slided berated his nerves. In fact, he barely heard it. If he had stop to think about it, he might have thought that it was his fault somehow. It wasn't as though the native language of Helovia was his first language, and despite the amount of time he had spent here - despite the fact that he now mostly thought of himself as a Helovian - he still hadn't perfected it. There were too many vowels, too many words. His language, a language that his children and a few others shared, was much easier. The sounds were guttural, the phrasing easy. You said what you meant without anything else.

"That good. Bone splinters that small bad for gut. Get stuck, cut and bleed, then you die." Gaucho's steely gaze turned to Nashoba with a smirk. "Good to listen to Grusha." He grunted, knowing that his words held no sway over the pup. But as it was, one kick from Gaucho could still kill him.

The dun's ears perked forward and his gaze swung back to the white-maned twin as she indicated that she was collecting them. That she could make stuff with them was not immediately impressive. One could make stuff with anything. If she stuck them together she could call them a house and --

--his thought was cut short as the bone in his nose began to wiggle. The skin there was tender enough that it didn't take much force on her end to be able to move Gaucho's blocky skull. It was either that, or return home to the Throat with a bloody nose and have to explain how it was he got it. Comically he bore Grusha's display, even though the muscles of his jaw clenched and his ears tilted backwards slightly. This display of power, harmless as it was from his own child, was still just that, and regardless of his love for the girl, he had to hold back the desire to show her just what real power could do.

"Enough." He grunted, yet his command was not overly stern. He was impressed by her abilities, budding as they were. "Can control bones inside flesh?" Then, realizing that he didn't actually want her to demonstrate it on him, quickly added: "Just answer. Don't show."

A bloody nose was one thing, but trying to get back to the Throat with a rib pulled out of his skin was another.

Nashoba's dark eyes focused on Gaucho as he spoke, but the words meant nothing to the pup who didn't understand. Once the stallion was quiet the pup shifted his gaze to his bonded while he continued to chew on the squirrel the pair had killed together. She could read the question in his eyes and so she sighed. "He says that you gotta listen to me." She thought to the pup. "Cause I'm smart. I'll keep you 'live as long as you listen." The pup huffed and crunched through the rodent's skull with a crack that made Grusha frown. "I told you to be careful!" She hissed, but shortly after she was looking at her Pa again.

Grusha heaved a sigh because it was time to show off her magic and what she could do. It was pleasing to her that she could make her Pa's head bob up and down with the force of her magic. It didn't matter to her that it might have been uncomfortable to him, or that his ears were nearly flat against his head. It wasn't until he said enough that she realized that he hadn't particularly enjoyed her little display.

Whatever, it didn't matter.

His question had her tilting her head, but he quickly amended it by telling her to answer 'yes' or 'no'. It was too late, though, because she was already trying to stretch her father's ribs apart, but she could not feel her magic grasp the bones that she wanted. She tried his right foreleg next, but still could not grasp the bone under the thin layer of flesh.

"No." She finally said, looking thoroughly displeased with her most recent discovery. "Only dead thingth." She was quiet and thoughtful for a moment before she continued on. "But Tae can put her magic with mine and we can make thingth live again." Because if it had bones, hide and a spirit it was alive, wasn't it?

Luckily, Gaucho felt nothing. Though if he had known that his daughter was actively trying to wriggle the bones in his body, he might have been less than pleased. That she indicated that she couldn't do it, was not necessarily disappointing, though it would have been a fairly useful battle tactic. Could such magic even be asked for? Perhaps if there was a quiet moment between himself and the Sun God, he would ask. What need would there be to burn away the flesh of his opponents if he could simply tear their bones through their skin instead?

But Tae can put her magic with mine and we can make thingth live again

What.

"What?" He grunted, voicing the one thought loudly booming through his skull. They could ... bring things back to life? In his minds eye he saw hoards of their fallen brothers and sisters suddenly leaping back to life, to fight another day. He saw all those murdered by the Moon Goddess suddenly walking back across the face of Helovia. Was the magic that Grusha spoke of somehow compensation for the atrocities he had been forced to commit? Could they somehow undo it? He knew that the Sun God had promised to bless all those who came from his loins until the day he died, but surely this was far too great a gift, regardless of what the Sun's sister had done.

"How?" He demanded, ears suddenly forward and his gaze even more intense than it normally was.

Gaucho seemed to show far more interest when Grusha said that her and her sister's magic combined could bring things back to life. She nodded her head vigorously, not really understanding that her definition of alive and her father's were two totally different things. To her, the things that she created with her sister were alive and not simply puppets. They moved and fought and followed whatever directions they were given. She cared about her creations and tried to keep them 'alive' once they were created so she could continue to use them, but thus far she'd been unsuccessful.

"How?"

Grusha blinked and stared up at her father as she tried to figure out how to explain it without having her twin there to show him. "We... we... I get some boneth from my collecthun and I build a body out of them and then Tae taketh thkin and puth it on the boneth and thee maketh a thpirit go into it." She tried her hardest to explain, but it wouldn't have been surprising to her if her father just stared at her like she was a babbling idiot. "And ...and it thtarth moving." Her voice had dropped down to a whisper, like she was telling her father a secret.

The girl was silent for a moment to let it sink in, her blue eyes never leaving her father's face while she let him absorb everything she'd said. "Thath how we thaved the wolveth from the monthter." She said. "Thath how we dithtracted it." Of course she didn't go into detail about how the monster had destroyed their creation so easily and that they'd had to use themselves as distractions. But there was one thing about the fight that the girl was willing to reveal to her dad. "I thtabbed it in the eye with thome boneth, too." And she was quiet proud of herself for that accomplishment.

Gaucho listened as his daughter spoke. In his mind, what she was describing sounded almost more ritualistic than merely the mechanics of their powers.

Bones From her collection.

That his daughter(s) prepared for this sorts of rituals and tasks did not surprise or unnerve him. If anything, he applauded their efforts to keep a supply of what they needed to perform such useful magic. Besides, if the magic was given to them by the Sun God himself, then best that they keep themselves humble and continue to serve their Lord by providing the means necessary to carry out his will.

Thath how we dithtracted it

"Smart." Gaucho grunted, his large antlered skull nodding appreciatively. His girls, he was sure, would grow up one day to be fierce warriors. For now, they seemed to know how to use their abilities - and their surroundings - to their advantage. They would not sit on the sidelines like so many others (Rhoa-) waiting for their moment in the spotlight. They seemed perfectly content with grabbing the light for themselves, and directing it towards whatever exploits they were currently on.

I thtabbed it in the eye with thome boneth, too

"Eyes weak. That good plan. Not see attacks coming after that." The Wildfire grunted, his dark lips spreading out in a smile. "Why you and Tae save wolves? Why fight monster? Why not let wolves fight own battle?"

The Sultan was genuinely curious. Had they, despite Ampere's warnings, simply wanted whatever was in the eggs that they found? Is that why they attempted some sort of heroic attack, so justify and hide their true intentions? Or were they actually somewhat altruistic? Perhaps Grusha had simply wanted monster bones.

Grusha couldn't help but grin as her father acknowledged that her attack on the monster's eyes was a smart move. Her goal had been exactly as he said, the eyes were weak and it wouldn't see other attacks coming. The girl may have been young, but she was far from stupid. She'd also wanted to protect her sister because if the monster couldn't see Tae then it wouldn't be able to hurt her.

Her gaze fell to the ground when her father asked why she and Tae had decided to save the wolves and why they hadn't let the wolves fight their own battle. Grusha scuffed her hoof on the ground and shrugged her thin shoulders. "Why not?" She asked. Originally the girl had only helped because Tae had asked her to, but she'd thought about it from time to time since their battle with the monster.

"The wolveth were weak. They didn't have a chanth againth the monthter." The girl said with a frown etched into the lines of her face. "They would have died and the monthter would thtill think ith incinthible, but we thowed it that ith not. Ith weak too. It can die too." She lifted her head and looked at her father then, her gaze perhaps a little too fierce as she spoke of the monster. "And wolveth were babieth. Babieth thouldn't die. They thould have a chanth to live." Maybe there was a touch of altruism in Grusha, but it was something she didn't always acknowledge.

"We're gonna find it again, Pop." the girl concluded. "And we're gonna kill it. And I'm gonna make thomthing really cool out of ith boneth."

Just you watch.

>.> SORRY @Grusha

Gaucho's face remained neutral as his child spoke, though he was surprised to hear that the beginning of her justification started with something that sounded a lot like altruism. That the wolves were weak was not necessarily a reason to intervene. Those that were weak would die off, leaving stronger blood lines to take their place. He did nod approvingly as she indicated that she and her twin did not want the monster to think that it was invincible. That, if nothing else, Gaucho could appreciate.

We're gonna find it again, Pop. And we're gonna kill it. And I'm gonna make thomthing really cool out of ith boneth.

Gaucho tried, with all of his paternal power, to mask the smile that wanted to spread his dark lips. Many might have shied away from hearing Grusha talk so, but not Gaucho. She had an honourable reason to seek out the beast and was going to ensure that all parts of its body were put to use. He could not have been more proud, though he could almost hear Ampere screeching in his head knowing that he had encouraged such behaviour.

"If you do that, be safe and smart." Though he already knew she would - Grusha had already proven herself more than capable. "But-" He began, keeping his voice lower and dropping his large skull somewhat so that it was closer to the girl, "-better not let Ampere know. Better keep plan to yourself, or you and Tae won't be allowed to leave Dragons Throat's borders until you are 2." He winked, pulling his antlered skull up once again and looking around, as if expecting to see the blue lurking around a corner somewhere.
