By now, he knows the signs. Not the internal ones that mares experience but rather the physical manifestation of their instincts. The restlessness, the pacing, and the inevitable search for that one safe, secluded place. He'd become rather familiar with the signs - both from his experience as a healer and as a father. So as December's pregnancy progressed and her entire demeanor suddenly shifted, he knew. Instead of crowding her or clinging to her side, he sent Eliana to trail her, to watch her. Through their connection he is kept completely up to date on the mare's movements and the overall progression of her clearly impending labor. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable but he also didn't want to leave her completely alone (fearing the worst as he almost always does) but as the mare leaves the safety of the Falls and turns north he cannot wait around any longer.

Quietly, he follows. He is distanced enough from her grey form that he can't see her but, through his connection with Eliana, he knows she isn't too far ahead. Each step he takes is carefully monitored and measured - moving with a sense of purpose without throwing himself forward in a panic just to be by her side (and he'd be lying if he even so much as hinted that he wasn't at all concerned that she wouldn't just leave again). And as he meandered through the snow, he fought against the emotions and memories of Naerys' birth. He remembers well of the mistakes he'd made and how easily he'd allowed Eliana's fear consume him and dictate his actions. But this wasn't Alysanne. This wasn't Naerys' all over again. He couldn't let his fear strip him down into a simple, panicked mess. This was December's first foal and she needs him to be the calming, experienced force that he can be - her comfort during this painful but wondrous occasion.

So when Eliana's silver eyes watched the grey mare collapse into the snowy terrain of the Steppe, she does her best to remain calm as she transitions to circling high above the grey mare. Through their bond she reaches out to him, her voice soft yet urgent in his mind. 'It's time.' Her voice frees him from his memories and eases the panic threatening to squeeze his heart. In that very instant, his pace increased and his limbs stretch to cover more ground more quickly. In what seemed like mere moments he could see the familiar form of Carl trudging through the snow towards him. Miykael, without slowing his pace, calls out to the llama as he races forward. Yet he doesn't slow as he passes the creature, instead he merely continues - hugging his massive white wings to his sides so that they wouldn't catch the wind and slow his progress.

It isn't long before his blue eyes spy Eliana circling overhead in the sky. Using her as a beacon, he presses forward until December's form is clear amongst the snowy terrain. Only then does he slow down, only then does his heart stutter in his chest - fearing he'd have another foal still at birth. The golden stallion doesn't hesitate in his approach but he does slow it, especially when he notices the bundle that holds the mare's attention. The scene unfolding before him is one of peace and love - merely serving as the catalyst for his own peace of mind and easing the fears he'd felt only moments before. The foal had already arrived and the small form was already moving amongst the snow. A smile instantly lit up his face, bright and vibrant like the sun, as he shifted to stand beside December. He presses his lips to her cheek in a tender kiss, lingering a moment before slowly pulling back. "December..." his deep voice murmurs, love and adoration evident (and everything about this moment is completely different from what he'd experienced with Naerys' birth). "She's beautiful. How are you feeling? Are you all right?" he adds, keeping his focus on the pale mare first and foremost (he'd made that mistake with Aly and he is quite determined to never repeat that mistake again).

And that's when the gurgle brings his attention to the small predominantly brown and white form of his newest daughter. His blue eyes catch her expression and he can't help but to chuckle softly. Lowering his head, he reaches his muzzle towards the girl with the intent of rubbing the short, fluffy mane between her ears with his soft lips. Pulling back slightly, he attempts to meet her gaze. "Sounds like we'd best get some food in that little tummy of yours, little one." his voice is warm when he speaks and utterly gentle. With another soft laugh, he moves his muzzle to her side in a silent indication of where the sound had come from. In recognition of what the filly would need to do, he pulls back even further to grant her the room she'd need to stand on her own hooves.

maybe one day you'll understand why
everything you touch surely dies
