Ezital shook out his mane and took in the mares' reactions to him. One of them couldn't even be called that, she was a filly at best, though she already towered over him. It wasn't much of an accomplishment, really. He'd already come to terms with the fact that Helovia was quite often a land filled with giants after meeting Tembovu several months earlier.
The mare in particular that he had charged in to rescue seemed almost delighted by him. He smiled back at her, puffing out his chest a little. He far preferred her reaction to the ones others seemed to have, largely confusion or irritation. But it wasn't his fault that they were all humorless, dry old bats. He was a hit with the foals though. Vitani always seemed to find him at all the herd gatherings.
Spirited, she called him. He decided he quite liked that perspective.
He snorted and rolled his eyes at the filly's exaggerated alarm. Did she not understand that her mere size would account for a lot if he wanted to take an issue with her? His meager fighting skills that he'd acquired couldn't overcome the fact that she had a giant ass set of wings sprouting from her shoulders. He couldn't help but to stare at them a bit overly long. They were impressive, yes, but having never met a horse with this particular affliction he could only assume they were some anomaly. His world simply didn't include horses with wings, or in the filly's leggy, underdeveloped case, a rat with wings.
"What's wrong, kid?" he drawled, trying out a bored tone one of the elder stallions used on him. "Never seen a real horse before?"
He flashed a broad smile at the pair of them to let them know his words were intended to be taken lightly. "I'm Ezital, a minion for Ktulu's army in the Hidden Falls, but feel free to call me by my other title, 'your majesty'".
He bent his knee in a dramatic half bow.
