It had been so refreshing for her to speak to another living, breathing creature. One who had mistaken her for a goddess, but Seren liked her, and when they had parted ways she had felt happier in some manner. Yet while she had walked to the Steppe, and had seen the Heart Caves, and the rolling ocean of the Endless Blue, nothing had been as relaxing as standing beneath those dancing lights. The feeling of home was so solid in her heart, it had stilled the monster in her head and brought the feeling of being alive back into her soul.

Something that been so lost for so long.

It was your own fault, yet the monster speaks, Seren closing her eyes as she walked to try to shut it out. She ignores it, ignoring that thing that tells her how she will never find anything she wants.

That she'll never be happy.

You never will be, you don't deserve it for what you did, and Seren's teeth grind as she stops, ducking her head and pushing it away. I don't need you, she speaks to herself, I don't need you get out!

She rushes forward in a sudden movement, unplanned and stupid all at once, and it was in this flurry that Seren's head struck a low branch, not realising she had come into a little forest, a grove, and a place she had not been. Her eyes opened wide as she felt the bark bite into her skin, tearing little holes in it's path, but this was no pain to her – nothing had been like the searing blood of the mad god, that burned her face and took her sight in her left eye.

Calming herself, ignoring her own mind, Seren stepped neatly through the trees now, her abrupt behaviour forgotten, as she slipped down to the water's edge to have a drink. The water was soothing to her, cold and wonderful. She was oblivious at the moment to the serenity of this place, the hidden grove here, as she quenched the thirst that had welled up quite strong in her throat.

Yet as she raised her head and looked around, her heart skipped a beat. It was truly calm here, the water making little noise, while the trees rustled and sang their own song in their strange voices, weaving the feeling of tranquillity into her body. Peaceful like this had not been felt since she left the Steppe.

Though Seren suddenly realised she doubted that she were the only one to know of such a place... Her gaze turned, looking about, finding she was not alone... and hoping that her intrusion into this place was not unwelcome...

Oultik

"I don't need your tears
I don't want your love
I've just got to get home."

Oultik had thought to ask the celestial mare if she were a messenger, sent by the goddess of the night sky, but the question. She was a woman, she was permitted to be foolish. Some males found it to be endearing. Oultik did not. He turned and ducked beneath a cluster of branches. Erakro was interested in the mare still though with a great sigh the cub padded in ahead of the unicorn. They had moved a small distance by the time that Erakro had made up her mind. With no warning she scampered back towards the direction the mare had been traveling.

Surprised by her quick movement Oultik jerked his head up. "Erakro!" His horns clattered against the branches that he had been beneath and became lodged in-between a fork in the branches. Erakro merely flicked her tail in acknowledgement. A tooth poked out as she impishly grinned. So many times Oultik had responded to her desire to stop and play with something in a similar manner; a flick of his tail, a disinterested nod. This time he had no choice. She was in charge.

Erakro found the mare to have gone further down the path into a grove. With her funny little limp the lion cub ran over to the strange woman. There was no time to waste! She did not know how long it would take her father to free himself. Looking up at the unicorn that towered over her she blinked several times in awe at the strange coat she wore. And how well she wore it! Erakro ran in a circle around the woman painted by stars. The cub laughed at how dizzy it made her feel to run around quickly while trying to keep her eyes on the strange pelt that danced like the night sky.

"Erakro." Erakro dizzily stumbled into Oultik's leg. When had he gotten there? Stumbling back to land on her rump the cub shook her head to try to dispel the dizzy feeling and batted her lashes at the stallion. Erakro only wanted a friend! Surely he could not be angry at her for that. Oultik could not expect her to remain solely in his company. As innocent as the eyelashes that stroked her cheek made her appear to be, rebellion flashed in her eyes.

"You should-" Listen. Behave. Obey. Oultik thought of many ways to finish the sentence. His brow was heavy with all of the words that came to mind. "You should be proud of your own coat." Oultik's eyes were glinting with amusement as he looked to the eyes of the mare. He would bet that she too had expected him to admonish the cub. How could he though, when she looked at him like that?

Towards Erakro the stallion felt all of the love that he had been unable to give to a child of his own. His home had been burned and his people killed by the pegasi whenever he was no more than a young colt, just budding into a young stallion. He had spent the rest of his years attempting to right that wrong. Though he still drew breath into his lungs Oultik had often felt as though his own life had also been lost among the flames. Despite the urges, despite the wants; the yearnings, he had never taken mates and never sired children of his own. Oultik had never had the time to. It had never been safe for him to. Erakro was Oultik's first glimpse at what could still be.

The daughter at his hooves now was certainly not of his blood but she was of his heart and soul. Oultik reached down and lifted Erakro back to her paws. He did his best to straighten her fur. Erakro looked down at her own coat and licked it, she mussed it about getting it just how she liked it and then she too proudly puffed out her own chest. The lion proudly displayed her fur for the beautiful stranger. "I am Oultik and she is Erakro."
