AND THE WATER IS RISIN' QUICK
AND FOR YEARS I WAS SCARED OF IT
WE CAN'T BE SURE WHEN IT WILL SUBSIDE
SO I WON'T LEAVE YOUR SIDE, NO I CAN'T LEAVE YOUR SIDE

Mesec had waited for her… he couldn’t know how relieved she had been to return and find him still near the Heart. She had left Gwaihir and Lucius with him but she had seen the beast the Mesec had become and knew that if he had turned, they would not have been able to hold him there. But he had waited, kept that promise too while she had seen to the herd. They would be fine for a few days, she had to believe that, because Mesec was decidedly not fine.

She didn’t suggest they fly to the veins, though Meg would have liked to have gotten there as quickly as possible, she though it best to keep her friend on the ground. Keeping him calm seemed to the the operative task, and a slow pace seemed to lend itself to that. Not to mention two other very important considerations: first, she didn’t know the full capabilities of his wolf self, and could not risk that he transform mid-flight and plummet to his death. Secondly, her progressing pregnancy did not lend itself to speedy travel; her growing weight made her unsteady in the air and more likely to tire quickly. Meg didn’t mention either to Mesec and let him set their pace while still keeping them moving forward.

In fact, she didn’t talk much as they moved into the outlandish landscape of the Veins. She let most of her support go unsaid, displayed by keeping close by, and sending a reassuring smile whenever she caught his eye. See? I’m here. You are no monster, you are my friend, and I am yours. When she did speak it was to calm and insist that the Gods would have answers. She could not pray hard enough that she would not be proved a liar in that. Even as Meg tried to boost Mesec along, it was Gwaihir that got Meg through the journey, absorbing her worries so she could keep up her facade of confidence. She stopped, finally, when she came to the foot of the four stone shrines and the eagle descended to perch upon her wings and both waited for the other two to join them.

So focused was the Sunspear on her friend's need that she did not think of the fact that she could call down the Sun to see if he was pleased with her progress. She stood there, considering which god she should appeal to, and considered only who could best help her friend. Naturally she would have called upon the Sun to combat the darkness but might the Goddess be a better bet? Meg had a bad enough opinion of the Moon, but she also knew what is was to be a mother. That need to help and to guard her children pulsed in her with every breath, every heartbeat, surely even the Goddess would feel that for her son... How could she not? In the end, Meg settled on them both, bowing to one then the other as she spoke. "Lord Sun, Lady Moon, please hear me. We are in need of your council.

@Mythical Request - Turning in Meg's quest!

Granted Here - "Meg must show she understands the destruction is not the only way to protect. She must prove this in three different ways, which are up to you. Some suggestions might be: To talk her way out of a situation instead of fighting, to help someone in need without resorting to violence, to use passive resistance in the face of conflict, etc."

1) Nope.
Protects Mordecai from further self harm and general sads by showing affection and support.

2) Savages! Savages! & and I think to myself...what a wonderful world
Offers to accompany Cera as moral support when he goes to see the Moon Goddess. She puts Cera's need and safety (Gwaihir and Ilaria's too) ahead of her own anger by holding herself back from trying to cuss out Moony, really protecting her buds from the consequences of her own temper.

3) to the principal's office & Everybody Learns from Disaster & this thread >.>
Overcomes her gut-reaction of kicking Mesec out of the herd because he is Moony's son, realizing that they are not so different and that protecting her herd includes protecting Mesec as well. Makes him promise not to leave and to find her is he wargs out again (which he does) Refuses to let him run away and insists on bringing him to the veins to try and help get him some answeres about his beastyness.

He had considered leaving when she had gone to the Throat - even if Gwaihir would have told her right away. It didn’t feel right, putting all of his hope onto her shoulders. They had just begun a tentative friendship and here he was asking so much of her. But she was thinking clearly when he no longer could and he trusted Megaera and that was what had made him stay - watching the interaction between the two bird companions as a means of distracting himself from the growing turmoil in his mind. He couldn’t help but think of the herd - how their Sultana was calling them together. He pretended that he could see them from where he stood, a gathering of friends and strangers, and he wondered what they were talking about. Had she gathered them to warn them about him? The creature that he wished he didn’t become was certainly a threat.

She had told him he’d go home, but he couldn’t see how. He was trying so hard to be hopeful, to believe that there was a way out of this, but it was so hard to entertain such a positive thought.

So when she actually returned, when they set off towards the Veins and he became aware of the depth of Megaera’s sincerity in helping him. She spoke to him with nothing but kindness whenever they did speak - offering reassuring smiles when they didn’t - and it actually helped. The weight of Mesec’s gratitude towards her could not be measured or described in words. The time and effort she was taking to help him meant the world. Mesec had believed he needed solitude to learn how to master the warg, needed to avoid the presence of others unless it was triggered, but the magic remained dormant as he kept pace with the Sultana - allowing himself to be lulled into a temporary peace.

Sometime he would finally learn that he was not stronger on his own but part of a group - with his friends and family around him. He did not need to be alone.

He came to stand beside Megaera in front of the shrines, Lucius following Gwaihir’s movements and coming to land upon Mesec’s folded wings.

He needed to believe that they could help him.

“Mother.” His voice cracked over the whispered word, the only prayer he could manage to add to Megaera’s, but he trusted she would appear even if he had not spoken. Surely she would know that he had come, why he had come. As the patron of his home, he was happy that Megaera called on the Sun as well and would welcome his counsel in this matter. But this monster in him had to be something of the shadows and with her help, with his mother’s help, he might be able to learn how to control it.

Using a votg pass from my records to quest for this upgrade to Mesec’s current warg-magic:
:: [Dark (U) | can willfully transform into a warg beast and maintain a link between his two minds]
wishlist though I shortened the description of the magic because it was lengthy haha

Also, if it’s not too much trouble - Mesec is having babies with Ki’irha soon but doesn’t know she got pregnant so I’d be much obliged if someone could give him a heads up at some point in this thread! <3 Drop that bomb on this boy!

Sun God & Moon Goddess

The pair appeared, almost unceremoniously. Their bodies seemed so bizarre when placed next to one another: The Sun God was tall and lean, his body glistening with lines of molten fire. His horns spiralled delicately upwards, and the lines of his face spoke of pride and truth. Yet his sister, far more petite than he, was equally captivating. Lines of starlight and shadow danced upon her pelt creating and outlining the fine and elegant lines of her body. Her eyes - pupiless and silver, appeared far more evocative than her brother's golden and smiling stare. Their wings folded in tandem - they were siblings after all - but it was the God who spoke first.

"Hello Sunspear." The God offered, speaking to Meg first. Not because she was his lead, but because his presence here was for her, and so out of respect, it was to her that his attention was first given. Quickly his gaze turned to Mesec and his head bobbed a greeting to the boy - his nephew - as well. A smile broke his golden features and he had to withhold a chuckle. It was rare that he ever appeared with his sister - and even rarer that they did so under such non-hostile circumstances. "You have done well Meg. The magic that you seek shall be yours-" His ears flickered with a slight uncertainty. " - is that the council you spoke of?"

Now that it was her turn, the Goddess brushed passed her taller sibling with a wash of star-sparkle.
"Mesec darling-" She cooed gently. "You've been a tad naughty lately, haven't you?" She continued, her voice a rough purr of exquisite mischievousness. Although it was unclear what the naughtiness she spoke of referred to - his 'warging-out' or his little tryst with the moon-mare - she offered him a wink just the same.

They appeared together, both beautiful and terrible and as different as any two beings could be. They’re effects on the heart of the Sunspear, though insignificant compared to their larger impact on the world, were as dichotomous was the deities themselves. Luckily it was the light of the Sun that outshone the Moon's shadows and so that is where her attention fell, adoration outweighing enmity.

Meg bowed her head low to the Sun, respectful and obedient but raising her eyes again quickly to watch with rapt attention. Even with the Goddess beside him, The Sun’s presence at her call was reassurance that she had been right in bringing Mesec here. They would help, she thought, they would at least know why Mesec had been suffering so, but before Meg could begin to explain why they had come the Sun spoke again. At the god’s praise, his use of her familiar name, she could not help but feel a rush of fierce pride that instantly gave way to a momentary confusion. So focused had she been on Mesec’s troubles she hadn’t thought of the quest she had been given. She had been putting off returning for months, even half-heartedly (and mistakenly) avoiding the Diviner for fear that she hadn’t yet understood the lesson the Sun had been trying to impart in her. Her eyes widened at the realization of what the god meant, surprise and pleasure at his praise but soon doused by the worry in her heart and led by the Sun’s question. “I thank you, Lord, truly, but that is not why I have come.”

Her eyes turned to Mesec quickly, trying to show that it was he who was in need of the god’s attention, but Meg’s dark pools were pulled away just as soon to fix on the goddess. For the second time Meg was forced to indirectly endure the Moon’s snide remarks. The lavender lady seemed to be forming a habit of making light of her friends’ pain and it raked the Sunspear’s patience to shreds, but like she had done for Cera’s sake (and likely thanks to the Sun’s presence) she forced those feelings aside.

“Mesec’s transformations.” She said pointedly, trying to make it more of an appeal than and accusation. “They began at the battle with the Wolf of the Rift. We came to ask what causes them; how they can be stopped—or at least if there is a way for him to gain some measure of control over them…” Here eyes shifted between the deities, not sure which could give what she asked, and then she looked to Mesec, ernest compassion out weighing pride. Though there acquaintance was short, he was part of her herd, her responsibility—and more importantly now, he was her friend. If she had to suck up her pride and beg the Moon for help then Sun help her, she’d do it. “Please, will you help us?”

In tandem, they both appeared - the sun and the moon - and peacefully. Without any bickering and for the world of differences between them they looked so similar. He nodded a greeting to them both - the motion coloured with respect for the Sun God and fondness for his mother. His silver eyes, the same as her eyes, lingered on the beautiful, violet mare. Until it was her turn to speak, in that familiar cooing voice - the familiar fondness with which she greeted him.

He might never get over the conflicted feelings in his heart over her but he did love her - and the carefree teasing she used to speak to him actually made him feel better. If it was hopeless, if there was no way to fix what was hiding inside of him, surely his mother would be taking it a little more seriously. Lucius shifted on his back to get a better look - he hadn’t gotten a good look at his bonded’s mother the last time they had met - in all the chaos of the warg battle.

He knew how little Megaera cared for his mother and while he was used to the manner in which his mother spoke - knowing that (at least for him) it came from a place of love - he appreciated that no fights or harsh words were thrown about. Instead, she spoke on his behalf, explaining why they were there. He nodded along, his sad gaze shifting from Meg, to the Sun but always returning to rest on her.

His mother would know all about his transformations, of course. She had seen it first hand at the fight with the Rift and she would know about when it had happened since then. That was one of the funny things about being the child of a God - you couldn’t hide things from them. “I want to be able to control it. To not hurt… anyone else.”

Sun God & Moon Goddess

The God's ears flickered slightly as Meg indicated that the completion of her quest and the attaining of her magic was not the reason she had come. Or at least the sole reason, as those things had been completed by her mere presence. His gaze followed Meg's towards Mesec, and for a moment the God was unsure why his presence was required at all. If this matter was something the Goddess knew about - as she seemingly did, given the mischievous lilt in voice - then what was it the Sunspear expected him to do? He could not goad his sister into doing anything that she did not want to, and if the matter was about her son she would be the best candidate to help anyways. Still, the God listened patiently.

When Meg was finished - and Mesec had added his agreement - the God turned to look at his sibling, as if for insight. Yet her pale gaze was locked upon the Sunspear, and the God didn't like the tension that was steadily beginning to waft off of her.

"Help us?" The Goddess began, smiling her deadly smile at Meg. Her eyes flit to Mesec gently, allowing only some of the warmth to return to them. "Doesn't this seem like a family matter, dear?" She cooed, still making it indiscernible whether she was referring to Mesec's shape-shifting or the creation of his children.

The Sun God grit his teeth as his sister spoke, but it did appear she had a point. Why had the Sultana escorted Mesec here? Was she afraid he might transform again and go on a rampage? If this was an escort quest, then surely it was completed too. " They dwell in my herd, sister. That does make them family, of a kind." The God offered complacently. Immediately the Goddess smile turned to a scowl and she eyed her brother with annoyance. "You know what I mean." She hissed lowly, turning her eyes back to Mesec.

Her wings splayed loosely from her side as she regarded her son, a genuine and warm smile spreading across her delicate features. "What do you say darling? Shall we bid our delightful guests adieu, and discuss your little problem?"

In truth, the Goddess did want to discuss the matter in private. After all, it didn't do to just go about airing ones dirty laundry all over the place - even if it was just in front of a fellow God and her son's herd leader. As if that gave them any right to be invited into the personal conversations of a mother and son.

With a snort, the Sun God looked to Meg. "You have done well to help bring Mesec here, however in these waters ... we would do well to defer to her judgement on how best to help Mesec."

The casual comment from the Sun God about how he and Megaera were family (of a sort) had a familiar constricting effect on his heart. Ampere had said the same thing, on the edges of Helovia where she had caught up with him, and Megaera called the Throat his home. It had started out as a place to escape the complicated history tied to the other herd lands and the desire to belong somewhere, to belong to a group where he could work and be useful. It had felt like nothing had changed since the day he had shown up, requesting permission to join from Gaucho, but he was wrong.

Or had been wrong, at least - he still felt like his membership in the herd was up for debate despite Megaera’s insistence that it was still home.

Although the question about discussing the matter in private was likely rhetorical - how do you argue with the Goddess? - he nodded his agreement that it would be best. The Sultana’s presence had become something of a security blanket during their journey here and he was hesitant to let her go but as she usually was (and always thought she was), his mother was right.

He turned to Megaera and upon noticing the look upon her face was quick to draw her attention away from the Moon Goddess with his quiet voice. “It’s okay, Megaera. I’m safe here.” Who would he hurt? His mother? She would be able to handle herself and him as well. And then he reached out to nudge her softly on the neck, whispering a quiet “Thank you.” as his muzzle neared her. “I’ll come find you soon, okay?” Being in the Veins had returned some sense of calm in him, which had been rare in the last season as he tried to outrun what had happened - finding small pockets of safety with new (and one old) friend. His pained face was softened with a faint smile as his silver eyes looked upon this friend, the one who had taken the time to bring him here.

But truly, he wasn’t sure he would find her after - he had already put her in jeopardy once, it would be beyond selfish of him to ask for more help than what she had given him already. He wouldn’t return to the Throat until he could control the shifting magic that had shattered everything he had been building. If it could be controlled. He still needed to find out if it could be done. That he was still a member of the herd, at least in the eyes of the Sultana and the Sun God, was enough to give him hope.

His silver gaze moved to that fiery god and a small nod given to him, thanking him for his presence, before he took a step toward his mother and gave his attention toward her - his silver eyes filled with hope. He assumed that by his little problem she had meant the uncontrollable shape shifting and he had enough faith in her that if there was a way to control it, she would know how.

Perhaps it had been unnecessary to call the Sun there; logically if any of the Helovian pantheon would have the ability or the inclination to help Mesec it would be the Moon. Even if Meg was doubtful of the Goddess’ capacity for compassion, the Sunspear also knew what it was to be a mother, the love that could live in one’s heart for their own children. In truth she had called upon her god for the sake of her own peace of mind; like Mesec had needed the security of a friend against his fear of the transformations, Meg had needed the presence of the Sun to feel safe in the presence of the Moon.

Even if her ignorance could not be denied, it was hard for Meg to find anything but distrust and suspicion in her heart. The Moon had made Gaucho, Meg’s captain and mentor, an unwilling puppet in series of murders. That was the only thing about the Goddess that Meg knew to be true and perhaps Cera had come to accept the Goddess’ lack of answers and found his way to peace through forgiveness but Meg certainly had not. “There are things in this world that are ugly, messy, and bring heartache…” So said the Moon, and Meg had thought it a fair description of the lavender lady.

Megaera was fixed in the pale gaze of the Goddess and was held there by a sickening dread: the black eyes, as always, spoke fire but her insides felt cold under that stare. How could she trust that the Goddess would cause anything but harm when even her smile made her want to recoil? Even with her God at hand the gut reaction to this fear in the Sunspear would have been to fight—with words or deeds—any manner might have been easier for her to sit there and be silent. The Sun God’s voice freed her, a timely reminder that he was here, that he at least supported her continued belief that Mesec belonged home in the Dragons Throat with the family he chose. That break in the tension was enough for Meg to break her gaze. The breath she had been holding escaped and almost unconsciously her body shifted, taking her a step toward the Sun.

Even as the Moon tried to usher her son away, it went against Meg’s every instinct to let him go. What if she hurt him? What if she turned him into the beast again and sent him on a murderous rampage? Uncertainty was etched across her face but even as she dithered Mesec reached out to reassure her. His touch was steadying, a returned bit of strength from what she had attempted to give him on their journey here. She smiled halfheartedly at him, wishing that he could do more than leave him be, but even as she searched his silver eyes the Sun spoke and she knew she must. “See that you do, or else I’ll worry.”

She stood back, leaving the mother and son to their private conference and turning again the God. He really was magnificent, even now she couldn’t help but appreciate his presence—it certainly went a long way to warm her should after the encounter with the moon. “Thank you for coming, though I am sorry to have disturbed you. I suppose it was childish to hope that you would be the only one to actually come.” Honest admissions, as with anyone she respected, fell from her lips if he would not begrudge hearing them. She paused, only now realizing fully that her quest was an an end. His praise was enough to steel her. “I am sorry, too, to have taken so long in returning. I couldn’t be sure that I had learned enough of what you wished to impart but I am glad I have not disappointed you. I want to worthy of my post, I hope that I can be… Is there anything else you would have of me?” To be a better leader, a better Sultana to her herd, a better mother to her children… There was nothing Meg wouldn’t do.

The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

The God waved a fiery wing and beckoned Meg away from the lavender lady and her child. He could sense her care for Mesec just as easily as her distrust, but presumably like Mesec, the God was glad that the Sunspear had held her tongue.

"Your calls never disturb me, Megeara." He offered consolingly as the pair drifted farther away from mother and son. "Better to be sure of oneself than to jump unprepared into the fire." He added with a deft nod of his gracefully horned head. And he meant it too. For all who dwelled in his herd - and elsewhere - he would always praise preparation and confidence over rashness. It didn't due to be the first to reach the prize, if you were ill prepared to grab it. In this - and in many things - Meg had not disappointed him.

Her final quest gave him pause, and the God halted his long strides to consider her carefully. His molten gaze seemed to spiral into a burning infinity as it fell upon and inside of her mind. Quietly he sighed, parting his lips thoughtfully before closing them again and regarding the ruined shrines that they had just come away from.

"My kin and I have no one to turn to when we encounter a problem, you know. We only have each other. Our strengths, our weaknesses, and our disagreements must all be blended. As a lead you are not so very different. Many look to you for guidance, for decision making. While I will always be here for you, I am not a crutch. I will offer words of encouragement, but do not weaken yourself on them. There is much inside of you Meg, much to be proud of, to fall back on. In many things you do not require my judgement, my council, for that which is at your disposal is more than adequate."

The God's gaze was soft as he spoke. He was not chastising her want to to palaver with him, but the extent to which their discussions stemmed from her second guessing herself. It was true that he would always be there when she needed him, but he wanted her to see that she really didn't need him as much as she thought.

The God waved a wing and a golden spear appeared, hovering in the air. "You are Megaera the Sunspear, are you not?" He smiled and the spear dropped onto the rocky ground point-first, right before Meg. "Then fly true. For you are my Sunspear, and my aim has never faltered. "

With a final flashing smile and nod of his chiseled skull, the God disappeared in a flash of flame, leaving Meg with her thoughts, and her spear.

It brought the Goddess no small amount of pleasure to twist her brother's actions. Especially in front of his little pawns. She might be the smallest of them, the lightest and fairest, but she was certainly not the weakest. That title belonged to the largest of them. Her smile faded as her fiery brother faded into the distance, and her own eyes moved to her son.

Mesec.

Her darling child. Mesec the Nightwind, the kind, but also the dark. Did anyone understand the boy as clearly as she did? No .. the Goddess didn't think any could. Oh, she knew that it was not easy being her son, not easy being related to the Moon, after all, she was such a monster, wasn't she? Inwardly she rolled her eyes at the thought. Oh yes, such a fiend she was. Ha.

But enough about her, this was about her boy. Her handsome boy who was now stood before her, precariously close to falling off an edge that he couldn't even see.

"Now my dear, where shall we begin? With the monster within, or with the ones soon to be out?"

Her radiant gaze beamed with anticipation. Would he balk at her words? Would he be blindsided by his need to control himself, and so ignore whatever it was she was alluding to? Or would curiosity get the better of him? Would the inkling inside of himself become too large for Mesec to play at altruism?

She could only wait and see.

The monster within would have to wait because Mesec felt as though his entire body came to a slamming halt when his mother mentioned the monsters about to be out. His silver eyes widened as he looked back at her - barely even breathing as he stumbled over this little riddle. The only thing moving quickly was his heart, the rate picking up into a gallop. “What?” His voice was faint, his mind trying to catch up with his mouth as he tried to figure it out.

Although Mesec was worn and sad, and certainly slow to pick up on such things, he felt his mind jump to one possibility - something he had suspected before and now he latched onto the concept without any confirmation that it was true. “You mean.. Ki’irha?” He whispered the name of the star mare he had met in the Frostbreath Steppe, the only thing that he had learned about her that day, but surely his mother couldn’t be talking of anything else. There had been no one else (recently). He had travelled north again to see if he could find her, to see if this had been the outcome, but had not been able to.

Skipping right over the embarrassment that his mother knew about all of… what had happened between him and Ki’irha, he needed to clarify what he had been wondering ever since he and Ki’irha had parted ways in the Steppe. “She’s… pregnant?” He watched his mother for confirmation - both fearing that she was wrong and that she was right as his silver eyes started to shine with tears at the prospect - literally holding his breath for an answer.

A father.

He felt hope cultivating in his heart as she beamed at him, teasing him with the knowledge that she held and that he was gasping at, but the fear was rising like bile. If she was, if there was a child, Mesec couldn’t even go to see them - not like this, not with the threat lurking within him.

Even now having adopted one babe, given birth to two and raised three with a fourth on it's way, could she still be so dependent on the supportive words of those she looked up to? It had started with Gaucho, who had taken her under his protection and tutelage when she was already an adult by the reckoning of years; now it was the God of the Sun, who the only one who truly superseded her rule in the desert domain. Despite all that she was, all that she had gained in four years in Helovia in the presence of the God and his Ascended she still felt so small. Perhaps there was something in her (the child raised on abuse and disdain) that needed their encouragement and approval. Perhaps someday she would take the Sun God's words to heart and not limit herself based on that need

Megaera nodded solemnly at the Sun's words, weighing each phrase as it was chiseled onto her mind and memory. "...much to be proud of..." could he truly mean that? She would not dare to accuse the Sun of lying and once that simple phrase made its way past her mind's initial protest it nestled in her heart. On the arch on her wing, Gwaihir had sat listening and gave a soft chirrup of agreement at this; if anyone held Meg in high esteem it was the eagle. And perhaps that was what made Meg let herself smile. The spear appeared like a lightning rod for understanding, a symbol of what she must become, what the Sun said she already was. The Sunspear. Perhaps she had spent so much time worrying over being worthy of the title she had forgotten that it had not been chosen as a role for her to fill but created to describe what she already was. She nodded again in silent affirmation. She would fly true. She would not falter. And then her God has gone. Meg bent to pull the spear, still warmed from the God's power, from its position in the ground and lift it to place securely under her wing. Then she looked over to where Mesec stood with the Goddess. It still sat ill with her to leave him there, but her had promised to come and find her before and held to that, Meg had to trust that he would hold to that promise a second time. With a flurry of wings Gwaihir took to the sky and Meg followed and the Sunspear and her eagle headed for home.

Meg out :D

The Goddess listened to the surprised hushed tones of her son and smiled gently. "Yes darling." She offered almost compassionately, though her voice was still full of a mischievous amused laughter.

She’s… pregnant?

A warm breeze full of starlight and the scent of rain swam around Mesec, flowing around him like a robe. Comforting physical gestures had never been the Goddess' strong suit, but since he was a baby, this was how she had held him. Stars glistened around her boy - a stallion, but still her baby - and twinkled their reassurance.

"Why of course!" His mother laughed, radiantly and calmly. "Darling what on earth did you think the outcome was going to be?" Her silvery laughter subsided slightly, for she knew that her son was genuinely dismayed about this news.

"Though what you might not be reasonably expected to know, is how your coupling will affect the life that you've now created." The Goddess unfurled her wings slightly, and the misty blanket wrapped itself around Mesec tighter. "My blood runs through your veins, and now a small fraction of that is helping to shape what grows inside of the star-mare's belly. They will be healthy - yes, they -" She winked at him, watching the expression on his face change. "- and if you're lucky, they will be blessed by magic just as you were, when you were a babe."

The Goddess paused a moment, wanting her son time to take all of this information in. Part of her thought that he was playing possum with her, if only just a bit, and perhaps unknowingly. After all, surely he had some idea what the results of his actions would be?

The warm breeze of starlight and rain fell upon him and it it worked - he relaxed into this comforting gesture from his mother and let it soothe him. Relaxing his mind and body in a way he had forgot was possible. Since before the moment that had started this decline. Lucius thrilled lightly in happiness as the star field settled around them, refreshing both demigod and companion.

When Mesec’s mother asked him what he thought the outcome would be he shook his head to dissipate the small snort of laughter that came in response. It was easier to see the possibility now in hindsight but he hadn’t even been thinking about it at the time. “Well I knew it could happen I just… I went back to see if I could find her and see if it did but we only exchanged names not homes or anything so I didn’t know where to look for her…” But the more he tried to explain, the more he felt irresponsible about what had happened. No homes, no other information, just a name and what they had learned about each other without speaking.

He could have tried harder, he knew that, but he hadn’t, and now he still didn’t know where they were.

She went on to explain how his blood - her blood - would affect them. Them. Twins! His eyes widened even further in surprise and excitement as this extra bit of information was shared his smile growing slightly. “You’re going to be a grandmother.” With the cloak of starlight around him the warm expression felt genuine and whole for just a moment as he enjoyed this perfectly normal moment as if they weren’t a goddess and her demigod son.

Must the misty blanket couldn’t keep out the chill that chased those happy thoughts and he wished it would tighten around him more to block them out. “Even if I did know where to find them… I’m a danger to them, to my children... To my new family because of this magic I have.” Though they had only met that once - for a short period of time - Ki’irha was now the mother to his children and he would consider her family as well. His silver eyes grew sad again as he followed this train of thoughts to its terrible end. “I could hurt them.” It was terrifying enough being a threat to his friends - to the family that Megaera was convinced he belonged with in the Throat - but the idea of mixing his children into this messy life of his. “Unless I learn to control these shifts.”

while the rain water washes away who you are
we'll go over the mountains and under the stars

"Just a name, and a look, hmm?" The Goddess trilled with amusement. "Good for you for even getting her name," silvery laughter enveloped the Goddess, and star-sparkle glistened around her brilliantly.

The Goddess pretended to think quite hard. She tossed her delicate nose in the air and batted her eyes at the starlight her magic had created. "mm...the star mare.." The Goddess murmured contemplatively. She was clearly putting on a show for the sake of her son - trying to insinuate that of course she hadn't witnessed his little act (how else would she have known so much about it?). But it was all a pantomime, and both knew it.

"The icy north, I think." She said finally, returning her gaze to Mesec's handsome features and winking.

You’re going to be a grandmother"You're going to be a father!" She quipped back quickly, clicking her tongue as if to scold him.

It was then that Mesec's focus finally returned inward, back to the beast within. The Goddess looked at her boy thoughtfully, magic stirring inside of herself. Oh, she could easily just give it to him, but where would the fun lesson be, in that? No, Mesec would have to earn his way to her aid, just like the rest of them.

Well, more or less.

"Ahh, yes. The beastie within. Quite a lot of havoc you've caused with those little outbursts, no?" Her voice was like a velvety purr. She saw far more than she let on, and she was sure that Mesec knew that. He would also know that she had never intervened, never stepped down from her silvery throne to assist him even when his transformations bordered on disastrous. He was a grown up now, after all.

"Restraint comes from within yourself, Mesec. How about this?" The Goddess swept closer, and the draping of star sheen and warm breeze tightened around Mesec's shoulders.  "Option 1 : let the beast take over. Let it sweep through your senses and then, at the very last moment ... make it stop." Radiance and danger glistened in the depths of her pale eyes as she spoke. "Or-" She drifted back a pace, her slender shoulders shrugging somewhat as the amusement fell slightly out of her voice. "-they do say practice makes perfect? The choice is yours darling."

The wing again tightened around his shoulders like the last squeeze of a hug, before dissipating entirely.

MESEC MAY EITHER

1. Turn into a warg and spar someone until they're within 15 HP (so very dearly dead, by our blackjack rules), and then stop the fight.
2. PRACTICE. Mesec (as Mesec) must stop himself from having something he wants 5 times. This can either be that he stops himself from eating food he likes, from sex, etc. He just has to practice actual restraint 5 times.
