Forest eyes peer at the path before her, a strangled bramble ridden path where the limbs of plant life reach out like fingers to grab hold of those who dare venture past. A shudder runs the length of her spine at the sense of foreboding the darkened trail invokes and she turns her head to peer back over her right shoulder. The sunlight bounces around the various leaves and rocks in the direction she traveled from and she considers turning back into the sun’s welcoming embrace. Chocolate lids squeeze shut as she returns to face the path ahead of her, inhaling deeply through her nostrils before releasing the breath through nervously clenched teeth. It’s just another adventure. The filly coaxes herself and she opens wide eyes before forcing herself to take several steps into the darker area. Her gaze lifts up to the canopy and she marvels at how much life grows closer to the surface when the canopy is so full and barely any light makes its way down to her level.

The spindly fingers seem to stretch toward the filly, caressing the skin along her sides in a way that furrows her brow and causes young muscles to visibly tense. The noonday sun begins to fade away even more the further she walks but to turn back now would make this moment of bravery pointless and Hollow presses onward. I should have asked Ilios to explore with me. She sighs, frustrated with herself; her lack of proper judgment (what yearling strolls about alone and unprotected?) and then because she grows weary of cowardice. I can do this. It’s just a walk She verbally continues where her thoughts leave off, ”In the woods. Dark woods.” Emerald gaze looks from side to side briefly. ”Alone.” Psyching herself out the sound of a twig snapping eagerly sends her flying down the path ignoring the brambles gathering in her mane and tail and the small lines being carved into her skin by the overgrown sticks blocking her way.

She bursts through the underbrush into a clearing with little vegetation and stops her frantic pace. Nostrils flare as her sides heave with her panicked race and she quickly looks to the rear to be sure no monsters pursue her. White rimmed pupils disappear behind brown lids and she works to slow her breathing. Chicken Mentally chiding herself she slowly opens her eyes and blinks at the bright, but welcome, sunlight. Glancing around her perusal of the area stops at the entrance to a cave, her nose wrinkling in distaste. Having spent too many nights to count in reeking caves Hollow has little desire to explore another…and yet, pink and grey hooves shift closer to the entrance. Taking in a deep breath as she reaches the entrance she is surprised that it is not entirely unpleasant smelling and hesitantly places a hoof just inside the entrance. The sound of it hitting a slab of rock echoes back to her and she waits, poised and ready to flee should a creature appear to ward her away from their home. Minutes tick by and when no one comes out she allows her curiosity to lead her deeper inside but not so far that she cannot see the light from outside.

”What is this place?” She softly questions the warm air surrounding her, once more surprised. how is it this warm here? Caves are damp and musty in her experience.

One foot in front of the other the filly reminded herself as she walked along though uncharted territory. Everywhere she looked seemed to be the same ugly twig things that liked to catch at you as you walked by. Maybe coming this far from home wasn't exactly the best idea she had in the world but at least it was an adventure... right? Lowering her muzzle to the dirt the filly looked down at the footprints she had been following. She wondered what they were from and when she would finally run into whatever it was that had made them. Things like this were interesting but she sure wished that he daddy had come with her. Temby wasn't exactly her real daddy but he was her daddy since she had no one else since her mama disappeared that fateful night a few long months ago. There had been a big storm and before she knew it her mama had disappeared and she had been left all alone. Ever since then she had been living in the forest along with Temby but lately he had been gone a lot and not seeming to want to spend time with her.

Leaving all the sad thoughts behind her the filly continued to walk along cautiously following the footprints that someone or something had made. It was probably a bad idea to follow them but she really wanted to know what had left them in the first place. A noise startles the poor girl sending her sideways into the sticky brush with a soft squeak as her head whips around to face the source. Flaring her nostrils wide she snorts warily only to see a lizard scurry off into the thicker brush, great she managed to be scared of a lizard... Carefully extracting her limbs from the scratchy brush she is disappointed to find many little scratches along her otherwise perfect pelt, guess she was going to feel those later. Creeping along farther the path widens to reveal an opening to a large cavern that seemed to disappear into the side of the cliffs. Pausing at the opening she is surprised to find that it smells earthy and a little bit like home but she hesitates not wanting to go in alone.

"Hello?" She calls loudly flicking her ears sideways to catch the echos of her own voice from deep within. "Anyone in there?"

No less than a month after his decision to stick to that north eastern stretch of Helovia (that top spot where folks were about as abundant as an echidna has prickles, yeah), that restless feeling hit Banjo like big ol’ Ularu to the head. He wanted to explore, wanted to meet more of these fantasy, fairytale things spread out far and wide throughout the land; he wanted more mates to kick back with, new tricks - like Brisa’s to challenge his grip on reality, and most importantly the buck wanted to find still bigger and better treats to tempt his tastebuds! Grass all day, everyday was about as mouthwatering as mouldy bread…

Leaping and bounding, as was his own unique method of locomotion (rather like an too-large hare or rabbit hopping along), the long-footed jack moved south, still further than the sprawling meadow which held the oversupply of juicy green grass - enough to give any horse colic. The earth beneath his flying shadow began to dry quickly, as did the pasture thin and grow yellow as the nutrients became less to feed upon. Banjo noticed the change of scenery quickly and began to slow, coming to a halt beneath the gnarled wood skeleton of a tree.

Glossy green eyes narrowed towards it, grooming the gleaming grey surface with rising interest.

There was a spur of sorts about one quarter of the way up its length, and to the resourceful creature, this would serve as the perfect backscratcher - the itch of course (murphy’s law), was perched on the very peak of his withers. He’d been trying in vain to ditch it for days, but alas, it was an impossible feat for oneself. Casually Banjo shifted his eyes left and right, surveying the open area around him for others, witnesses should this radical effort go drastically wrong.

The coast was clear…

All at once Banjo leapt towards the dead tree and turned his back upon it at the very last second. Brawny hindquarters bunched readily as his weight lifted high above, shoulders inching backwards, neck craning also to find any resistance - he just had to get rid of that irritation! The chestnut could feel the cold surface there, but the knob, that delicious protrusion, it just seemed to vanish altogether. “Arrrrgh….” he groaned desperately, wriggling his top half ridiculously around. But it was naught to be found, and he fell again to the ground with a put out snort. “Whatever!” he scolded harshly, comically, turning to glare (and with any luck smite its useless existence in the process).

But it glinted cheerfully as the sunlight kissed its just-out-of-reach tip.

After a final scowl, Banjo turned away and shook heavily beneath a cloud of red dust pluming into the breeze above. The sun had fallen from its thrown anyway, and he smiled smugly, idiotically at the thought; like it was punishment for being a royal pain in the ass, but a sound distracted him suddenly. It was a loud ’hello’, but not the booming voice of an adult anything, he felt. It was more the bold squeak of a rug-rat, and he was instantly intrigued. Gathering his peculiar body beneath, the horsaroo ‘lumped’ towards the younger being (or the spot he imagined they’d be), and was surprised to find the gold? blue? tail of what, he wasn’t sure, waggling on his side of a cave’s mouth - smack bang in the middle of nowhere.

“Ow ya goin?” he blurted amicably when he got near enough to spy the animal’s tall rump attached. "Secret club house ay, can I play too?"

Hollow’s chocolate ears swivel this way and that absorbing the sound of every drop of water and the rustling of whatever manner of small creature scurried along her path. Curiosity being the curse of both cats and foals she presses a little further into the surprisingly warm cave as emerald eyes sweep back and forth over the rocky terrain. A memory tugs at conscious thought and she almost gives into the hazy sensation of standing on the outside observing the recollection. Her present circumstances, alone and venturing down a strange path, allow her mind to grasp firmly at the present. She is positive she knows which memory would plague her now anyway and the idea of losing herself in that particular one holds no appeal. Mismatched feet carry her further down a tunnel until the heat becomes stifling and a bright glow to the left captures her attention. What in the world? A wall of scorching lava burns a track down the wall and she watches in a horror filled moment fully anticipating the fiery substance to spread and consume her.

A full minute later a breath is released she didn’t know she held and joints slowly unlock themselves; the lava keeps to its track and it is then she realizes there is something in front of it shielding her. Small hooves cautiously walk closer, her breath huffing against the crystal and forming a cloud where it hits. Forest eyes widen and she begins to laugh, the stored tension leaving her shaking body. A greeting interrupts her and the sound dies in her throat as limbs and ears jerk to attention. Turning she heads back to the opening, the voice sounding similar to hers in terms of youth.

She did not wander terribly far from the entrance and quickly reaches the surface, grateful for the semi cooler air. Before her stands a younger filly with beautiful touches of blue and gold woven into her appearance as well as a sharp horn protruding from her forehead like her adoptive father, Ilios. Head tilts to one side, though she never believed him to be a liar, it is still reassuring to see evidence of others like her; different and utterly unique. Before she can fully leave the cave entrance and introduce herself to the girl a masculine voice breaks the silence, his accent surprising her though not nearly as much as his appearance she sees as hooves take her to stand next to the filly. ”What are you wearing?” The words blurt out and she quickly colors in embarrassment. ”Oh forgive me.” She lowers her muzzle to her chest while her right foreleg lifts to a ninety degree angle briefly before she looks up, sending her gaze between the unicorn filly and the…well I’ve no idea what to call him. Smiling in secret amusement she addresses them both, ”My name is Hollow, who are the two of you?” Where she might normally be wary of a strange male, his attire and comical (not a bad sort of comical) appearance render her more at ease than usual.

The strangeness continues to unravel around her as her hello is answered by nobody inside the cave but some grown up from the outside. Tucking her tail close to her body for comfort she spins around to find the strangest creature she had ever seen. She wasn't sure if it was close enough to call it a horse but there was definitely something wrong with this one. Wide eyes stare at the stranger with disbelief before more hoofbeats sound the alarm of yet another approaching from behind her dividing her attention. These footsteps were much quieter than those the grown up had made which put her a little more at ease figuring that whoever it was must be smaller. Keeping her feet planted towards the funny looking one her head turns to find another filly emerging from the cavern. Pricking her ears towards the new girl she relaxes a little being around someone her age, or at least someone close to it.

Listening to the filly's words she can't help but giggle at her initial reaction to the stallion behind her. She was in fact wondering much the same thing but was too dumbfounded by the strange appearance to say anything. Silver blue eyes slowly turn back to find the attire of the male that is in question. "My name is Hera, or at least thats what my mama called me." She replied softly still a little shy to be around strangers especially in this strange place where nothing was known to her.

Relaxing her posture a little bit she drew her legs underneath her once more instead of them being at awkward angles like before. Flicking her tail the small charms of her bracelet jingled softly as they bumped into each other along the bangle. Scanning her eyes over the strange horse like creature she wondered where she could get neat things like what he wore maybe she could get one similar she mused silently to herself.
