Aleta
The sun shone brightly overhead as Aleta touched down in the Dragon's Throat. She wore a slight frown on her delicate features; the marking along her neck sparked angrily. The sands were empty, giving the girl pause: it wasn't as though she could simply waltz in unannounced. Having parents who have both been herd leaders at some point had taught Aleta the value of diplomacy. She was not one to act first and apologize later - no, the little lightning girl was polite to a fault, refusing to act without first having weighed the consequences of her actions. She had heard of the stallion that ruled the Dragon's Throat, and the consequences of an unannounced entry here could be dire.

Though she had plans to embark on a journey to all four herdlands, this was not such a visit. She had not come to the Dragon's Throat for fun - she had come to find her mother. Sohalia had been absent for long periods, leaving a very frustrated daughter behind. Abandonment did not suit the young filly, and though she had her father to comfort her, she found herself wondering more and more what kept her mother from returning home. Little did she know that the Transcended had another family, another herd, another life that her lightning daughter was not a part of.

Whenever Aleta wonder where her mother had gone, she was enveloped in a writhing mass of emotion: anger, for her mother had left her behind; insecurity, for she must not be good enough to keep her mother around; guilt, for she must have done something to drive Sohalia away. The onslaught was, at least in part, what had driven her to sneak away from the Hidden Falls and take flight for the Dragon's Throat. Though the girl was developing strict control over her emotions (let it show, she reasoned, and she would only end up hurt), she had not yet found herself able to just set aside the betrayal of Sohalia's absence.

And so she paused upon the dunes, staring across the sands, glancing now and then to the clear blue sky. She fluttered her wings, then folded them; she shifted her weight, uncomfortable under the harsh glare of the sun. At least it wasn't windy - she was loathe to find out what the sting of sand would feel like upon her tender flesh. She waited, patient and impatient all at once, wondering who it would be that greeted her.

"Talk."

As fate would have it, it was Gaucho who would find and greet the girl. Fate, and not just pure coincidence to be sure, for what else other than fate could possibly have brought these two together? This child, the best-kept secret of Gaucho’s former (current? Tentative?) mate, born of one of the only stallion’s that Gaucho had ever considered to be a friend.

Coincidence was a neutral player in all of this, but fate was a bitch.

Pegasi were welcomed upon the bloody sands, and so at first Gaucho’s patrol-minded flight was not bothered by the small pale filly. It was Mara in fact who suggested that he take another look. She was young – perhaps still under a year, and the snake did not recognize her. If she was a member of the herd, then perhaps Gaucho could escort her back to her dam’s side. And if not? Well, that did warrant his attention, for a girl as young as she shouldn’t be wandering about upon his lands, even if her wings granted her access.

Diving downwards from the sky like a comet of fire and muscle, Gaucho dove towards where the girl seemed to be waiting. He landed a few feet away, tucking his wings neatly against his flanks and moving towards her with an easy gait and something like a smile upon his features. He was not observant enough to make a connection between any visible signs that she might be born of Kaj and Sohalia – she was lightly made that was true, but more and more mares seemed to be cropping up that took after Sohalia’s delicate figure.
“Girl.” He grunted, his voice warm and his gray-blue eyes paternal and kind. “Are you born of Dragon’s Throat?” He still didn’t think so, but perhaps he could save them both time by not making assumptions and asking her what it was he needed to know.

And then a comet fell out of the sky.

Aleta shied away, startled; fine grains of sand, tossed into the air by the meteor and flung at her bodice by gravity, stung her flank.  A hiss of pain escaped her clenched teeth.  Though she had grown more comfortable with being oversensitive to the world around her, there were certain sensations that could still take her by surprise.  Most of the time, these surprises were not pleasant.

"Girl."

The voice was brusque, though not unpleasant, and Aleta shuffled shyly towards its source.  He spoke again, drawing her gaze upward (and upward, and upward) until it came to rest upon a stallion who could only be Gaucho the WildFire.  He was tall (particularly to a filly of naught but a year) and muscular, with fire dancing along his folded wings.  The girl swallowed hard, suddenly feeling small and insignificant beneath his gaze.  The Sultan of the Dragon's Throat was nothing like the (former) Czar of the Hidden Falls, and suddenly Aleta didn't know how to proceed.

"N-no, sir," she responded suddenly, having realized that she had been staring at him for too long to be appropriate.  Then, she remembered that she was (had been?) a princess, and of an allied herd.  She drew herself up, pulling a smile onto her face.  Her head dipped respectfully.  "You - you're Gaucho, aren't you?  The WildFire."  Her eyes shone with interest.  "My father told me about you and your herd - oh!" she exclaimed then, sheepish.  "I'm so sorry, I am Aleta, of the Hidden Falls. Kaj the Aurelight is my father."

"Talk."

Gaucho hadn’t seen the way the granules of sand that his hooves had displaced stung the girl’s flank, but if he had, he would surely have apologized for it. Such was not his norm, but then again, there was much on his mind lately. His dark ears perked forward as she replied that she wasn’t of the Dragon’s Throat, which piqued his interest. Did she perhaps have a crush upon one of the colts here? Is that what drew her across the water the separated the Throat from the rest of Helovia? Was it one of his boys perhaps? The thought made him smile slightly, and he lowered his antlered skull a touch as he realized just how far she had to look up to see him.

Gaucho bobbed his skull in recognition of his name, and nodded again as she introduced herself as Aleta of the Hidden Falls. However mentioning that she was Kaj’s daughter made the smile on his features increase even more, and he nodded appreciatively at the marking that graced the side of her neck. He should have know.

“Yes, I Gaucho. Welcome to Dragon’s Throat, daughter of Kaj.”

Ice broken, Vorsa trilled happily and flew in delighted circles around the young filly’s head. The Phoenix seemed to have a soft spot for children, particular girls, and was clearly over the moon. Her body arched in fiery patterns as she danced and trilled her joy. Mara of course was much more reserved, peering out of Gaucho’s antlers down towards the lightning marked filly.

“What bring you across our waters?” Still assuming it was because of a boy, Gaucho thought of Zero, also lightning marked, and smiled again.

Aleta
As the moments ticked steadily by, Aleta found herself growing more comfortable in the WildFire's presence. He may be a massive stallion, well known across Helovia for his prowess on the battlefield and his ferocity as a Sultan, but there was a certain gentleness about him that set the young girl at ease. She could easily imagine him to be a doting father, what with the way he lowered his antlered skull to peer at her, a cheerful grin splitting his muzzle as she mentioned her father. Aleta returned the gesture shyly, a bashful smile creeping onto her face in spite of herself. Gaucho wasn't so bad, after all.

Nor was the desert, now that the sudden gust of wind from the stallion's descent had dispersed. It was hot, to be sure - but that was only to be expected. It was also dry and quiet, a far cry from the wet, loud falls that surrounded her at home. Dunes stretched, shimmering in the sun, as far as the eye could see. In the distance, towards the center of the island, the girl could just barely make out a tinge of green. She realized that she shouldn't be surprised - the citizens here had to eat something, after all - but it was a marvel to her all the same. Perhaps she would be invited in, to see and learn more of this odd land and those who inhabited it.

But that would have to wait. Aleta had come here on a mission, one that she would not be easily dissuaded from. As the phoenix swirled and trilled happily above her head and the snake hissed warily from Gaucho's antlers, Aleta steeled her resolve. She had come all this way and was fully prepared to be disappointed again, unable to find her mother or confront her about her absence. Still, Cera had seemed quite certain that Sohalia could be found in the Dragon's Throat. "I've been looking for my mother," she told the stallion softly, a wistfulness entering her childish tones. "Her name is Sohalia, and I was told that she had been seen here recently? I don't suppose you've seen her? She's grey, with big white wings and one green and one blue eye -" Aleta stopped herself sure that she was babbling, looking hopefully at the flaming stallion before her. "Please, sir, do you know where she is?"

"Talk."

Not a boy then, but her mother. Gaucho thought this odd - the Lightning marked filly didn't look that old - surely she had been nursing not long before? A season or so? There hadn't been many new arrivals into the Throat that he knew of, which meant that her Mother was either a refugee here (and there weren't many of those), or a member of the herd. And if she was a member, why had the girl not been nursed and raised on the bloody sands?

"Mother?" He repeated curiously, his large black ears tilted all the way forward to catch the remainder of what the girl had to say.

Though as she spoke, he wished he hadn't.

Her name is Sohalia.

Gaucho heard a strange buzzing sound in his head, as if everything around him had the volume suddenly turned down save for one fly oscillating around his ears. And had it suddenly become warmer?

The girl was describing the Transcended casting an all too surreal light on the situation. Gaucho know Sohalia, he wanted to interrupt, but his lips felt numb and thick. Gaucho had known that Sohalia hadn't come back to him right away - she hadn't really come back at all, he had merely found her and she had allowed herself to be taken, and then taken again (back to the Throat). So this was where she had been. The timelines grew blurry in his mind - she can come, and stayed long enough in the Hidden Falls to conceive and birth a child? And then surely nurse her as well? Had Gaucho found her right after that coupling had ended, or had she lingered even longer?

Had she ever planned on seeking him out?

"Sohalia.." He breathed, shaking his antlered skull slightly to try and decloud his thoughts. Despite the stretch he knew it was, he thought he'd given the pale mare he loved one more moment before he mentally convicted her. "..the Trandscended?"

The name wasn't common. But perhaps ... perhaps?

Though deep down he knew it was wishful thinking. Now that he knew who Aleta's parents were, her lineage was clearly smeared across her coat.

Aleta
Although Aleta prided herself on being a particularly astute child, one who had gleaned a great deal of knowledge from her father, she was oblivious to the war waging within Gaucho's mind. Instead, she was focused on carrying herself as the daughter of a former Czar should. Kaj - and the rest of Helovia - did not seem to be particularly concerned with formality, but there was a certain pressure that the girl felt to portray herself as intelligent, mature, and capable. To be the daughter of a powerful warrior and leader was to be faced with expectations, among which was the ability to interact well with all other leaders. She would prove to herself that she was worthy of her father's name.

Sourly, she wondered if anyone would even know of her mother here. After all, the Transcended seemed to have a penchant for disappearing.

On other days, at other times, the young girl had wondered if it was something that she had done. Her parents, she knew, had never been in love. Theirs had been a coupling of something else (desperation, necessity, loneliness), and though she was not privy to details (which was quite fine with her), she knew that it had been a one-time thing. It had never bothered her, not really - she had never had impressed upon her the so-called importance of one mate and one mate only - but it grated on her nerves that her mother had taken up residence in the Falls only to leave as soon as Aleta could survive on her own. There was no other explanation: it had to be her.

As Gaucho spoke her mother's title, Aleta lit up. "Yes, yes! That's her!" she exclaimed, her ears pricking forward hopefully. "Is she here?"

"Talk."

@Gaucho - it's a little dark but definitely not illegible! :3 It fits the table.

As the girl brightened, Gaucho's heart seemed to collapse in on itself. Ampere had left, and like a ray of sunlight come to offering heat and light during a storm, Sohalia had returned to him.  He had been so greatful for her return (had he even told her? No he hadn't .. Though now as bitterness seeped through, part of him was glad that he didn't), that he hadn't pushed for any details of where she had been, other than the few tidbits she would offer to let him know that she was alright.

The buzzing faded, and for the first time in possibly Gaucho's entire life, he felt weak. Physically weak, as if he was going to simultaneously be sick to his stomach, and have his legs give out on him.

So it was true then. All of it was true, and standing before him, beaming up at him, was all the proof that he had needed.

Hypocrisy though it might have been, it certainly didn't feel that way. For Gaucho had never been with Ampere when Sohalia was around, and similarly in the other direction. The timing had always been so perfect and so the switching easy, but the Wildfire had been true to both the blue and the white, in his own way, when they were in his life. But Sohalia? That she had followed him ... Was it not even love between she and Kaj? He almost wished that it had been, for at least that could have served as a justification. But now the image that was growing in his mind was closer to the truth: a coupling of convenience. That made it all the harder to bear, for Gaucho had been here the whole time. Sohalia knew exactly where to find him, but she had gone elsewhere. Not only for haven, but for something else too it seemed.

Gaucho clenched his jaw once, then forced himself to exhale slowly.  "Yes, she here." He acknowledged, disallowing himself from revealing or taking out his emotions on the pale filly. None of this was her fault, after all. "She probably helping with church building. There-" Gaucho motioned with one large flaming wing towards the diviner's Fire, and where Maren, Cera, and Sohalia were likely working on the church. "Sohalia used to be crafter here, long time ago. That why she help them." Useless details. Or were they ones she already knew? Aleta knew to come here after all, had the Transcended told her daughter of her past? Or had she merely disappeared from her life too?

"If you Sohalia's daughter ... There will be many here who want to meet you." Her siblings, her family. Did she even know they existed?  Gaucho didn't think it was her place to tell the girl, but he could plant the idea in her mind. "Tell Sohalia Gaucho say for you to meet Rhoa and the others..she will know who."

Just as the girl had begun to worry that perhaps Sohalia wasn't here - that somehow she had just missed her, that the mare had disappeared from here, too - the dark stallion spoke.  Aleta revealed a brilliant smile, her gratefulness lighting her delicate features.  The lightning along her neck sparked suddenly, flickering and waving along her skin.  So her mother was here!  And helping with a church, no less.  Perhaps that explained the mare's absence - if she had been commissioned by the Dragon's Throat, or...  She still could have told Aleta and Kaj, but at least her absence was beginning to make sense.

"Oh, thank you!" she sighed happily.  "I've been searching for her all season!"  Her thoughts were not on what she did or did not know about her mother, though the information that Gaucho offered her was new.  There was a vague, distant knowledge of her mother's crafting magic, but that was it - it had never been something that the Transcended had acted on or shown her daughter.  The girl looked in the direction that the stallion had indicated.  As he seemed to be waving her on her way, she prepared to make her way across the sands.

Aleta turned to Gaucho, bowing her head respectfully to him.  "Thank you ever so much, sir," she told him.  "I will be sure to ask her to introduce me."  She hesitated.  "I'm sure that my father would be grateful to you for helping me.  Please, if there's anything that we can do for you or your herd..."  She trailed off with a smile, the invitation unspoken as she realized that it was probably not a new one.  With a final nod, the girl set off across the dunes, making her way towards the partially-constructed church and, finally, her mother.

"Talk."

Yep! Thanks lovely <3

..all season! The girl's cry of joy helped to place a few more things into the sketchy timeline that Gaucho was slowly piecing together. He wasn't really sure how much more he wanted to know - and it would be inappropriate to stay the girl's search for her mother to play 20 questions with her - but Gaucho's mind grew more desperate and hungry for information the more that Aleta casually informed him.

'm sure that my father would be grateful to you for helping me

Kaj. He hadn't even though of that. Hadn't he considered the ex-Czar a friend, once? Hadn't they stood and talked of many things shortly after the darkness and the Moony's treachery? And yet he apparently had no qualms about bedding Gaucho's lover. But then - what had Sohalia said to him? Perhaps that they were over, that she hated him and wanted nothing more to do with him? Surely it must have been that, for why else hadn't Kaj sent word to him?

Gaucho nodded with feigned appreciation at her offer, though he did appreciate the girl's diplomacy nonetheless.

Through blue-gray eyes, full of confusion and hurt, the Wildfire watched the daughter of his former mate and friend disappear across the bloody sands, towards a Mother who would have the unfortunate job of explaining what it was Gaucho had meant by introducing Aleta to 'Rhoa and the others'. Well, that was alright with him. Let the past she had hidden catch up with her.

With a deep inhale, Gaucho turned away from the disappearing lightning marked child. He needed time to think and to qwell the urge to lash out immediately and demand answers of both Kaj and Sohalia. Perhaps he would go patrol ... perhaps he would even find a sparring partner and allow his muscles to endure the brunt of his anger.
