One of the last things that Alysanne expected to happen was for a small black cat to come shooting out of the bushes near by. But the most startling thing about it all was that the cat called out to her, called out with her daughter’s voice.

Alright, so she really had gone insane. First hallucinating the flowers and then that her daughter was a cat.

But hallucination or dream, real or not, there was only ever one reaction that Alysanne would have to discovering her daughter - a rush of love and relief. “Naerys?!” Alysanne asked in bewilderment as the cat bounded toward her, rubbing against her legs in a manner that spoke of affection. But of course, though she did not recognize the form she would recognize that voice anywhere (and Petyr came swooping in, a flash of bright colour in the corner of her eye, further confirming her suspicions. Carefully, Alysanne lowered her head to the level of the cat - her eyes glistening with tears but they spoke of relief and joy now.

Because while Naerys had caused her pain in her absence, in the unmended fracture of their relationship, it was forgiven in the heartbeat it had taken for her to recognize her daughter. Whatever ills her little girl may do, Alysanne knew she would forgive each and every one of them without question. This was her daughter and the love she had for her was only rivaled by that she had for her son and sister. Her voice was barely above a whisper when she spoke - still raw with emotion. “Shhh it’s okay, my darling girl. I’m sorry too.” The idea that she had chased her daughter away had never left her, it had wormed its way into her mind and haunted her nightmares. For someone who loved being a mother as much as she did, Alysanne had a knack for holding her children away from her. First Artorius and then Naerys…

There was so much that she wanted to apologize for, almost too much to put into words. Saying that she was sorry wasn’t enough.

Now that the search was over, Hemlock abandoned his weaving trail through the trees and came to rest on the same branch as Petyr - hooting a friendly (though cautious) greeting to the bright green bird.

Unable to put her apologies into words, Alysanne instead addressed the most significant difference about her daughter - instead of growing taller in her absence she had grown much smaller. And changed species! “When did this happen?” She asked curiously, reaching to nuzzle Naerys and feel the soft fur of the cat against her muzzle.
