I hear my own heart's name, Kahelo, the moment that I see the monstrous mare that has become my only friend. Her eyes settling on me are a comfort, just as her teeth had been. Perhaps that is why it is particularly shocking when she looks away as if I were not even there.

My gut churns and without even realizing, I try to speak for the first time in seasons. But perhaps for lack of use the word of her name does not come, and my lips only emit a cracked silence. I close my mouth and turn back to the earth, trying to hide the shame of even attempting to break my vow. And for what, to call out to a mare who has chosen not to see me? How would that change things?

I focus instead on the task at hand, trying to keep track of the perma-buzz of advice and ideas being tossed around. At a certain point it becomes too much, and just as I start to feel a headache begin to burn my temples I begin to move, in the direction that the blue mare suggests. If Southwest is home to strange structures, then surely it could host something that looks like a goose... whatever that is.

I cast one look back at Aquila before picking up my heavy feet and trudging away, only neighing quietly to perhaps indicate that others should follow. After all, there is no good in standing around, and safety travels in numbers, even if they're fickle friends indeed.
