Although the quiet had lasted days – swept away by the currents of the winds, or the rush of trees as they swayed – bottled up in that single moment by the river. She savored it, for the sake of forgetting the last few months behind her. Ru’s moment of near silent contemplation shattered however, amidst the low thrown call. It was not a sound she recognized, despite its rather amiable roll. By instinct alone the youth’s ears stiffened up. She pulled her head away from the waters, and none too gracefully licked the wetness against her lips. Bright, determined eyes searching for the one who called out to her.

There was a few seconds fear gripped at her, struggling with the youth’s sense of daring for adventures – worn, and weary from the travels. With an ounce of relief, carelessly forgotten at the sight of the two elegant creatures, Ru considered the arriving trio as no threat to her. If all else failed, should destiny truly pair her against a violent foe, at least she could rely on her wings for safety.

Before the girl could truly make out the remarkable features of the cendyr, or the deer-like figure of the second animal, the equine at their epicenter drew her attention first.

It was his eyes that truly caught Ru off-guard. Devoid of light, almost, in dark pools that never ended. She uneasily shifted back, nodded in greetings – hesitant, as she offered a low trilling noise. Those wings beside her pulled in closer, as she dined to listen to the strange stallion’s words. Flicking her feathered tail, and passing glances between the trio, she finally shook her head – shrugging those wings passively.

She didn’t mind at all, was her initial thought. As long as we keep our distances. Her callousness waned, not entirely formed shifted and struggled with its resolve as she continued to take in the new stranger and his companions. It’d been too long without company, and she knew this yearning inside of her would not stop. It never had, and it rose within like a cold aching. And with that yearning, curiosity beckoned it closer. That’s when she realized she’d been staring too long at the hardened growth curling against his face. Quickly, she adverted her eyes down to the water, then to the red cendyr, and the dark charcoal one. She pointed to them by extending the bent portion of her wing to one, sweeping it to the other. A bright, curious whinny followed right after, as she tilted her head – and regained the initial distance she’d lost in those first few moments.

She could hold on to curiosity, at least.
