Time dragged. She almost hated it, the ways the days seemed to last forever. She could hardly sleep: she still felt so new, so foreign. The Edge was dangerous, surrounded by cliffs and shattered glass. She was lonely, but she was not often alone. She had found fear to be an ever-quiet friend that held her during the quiet hours -- hours that felt like days, like months, like seasons -- and whispered horrible things into her greedy ears. And when fear was not enough, she was accompanied by sorrow. She’d cried so much, so often, that she thought surely she would never be able to cry again.
But on that particular day, at that particular time, she was truly alone. All she felt was the dull ache of her heart and the heaviness of her hooves as those ever-long and slender legs carried her through the trees, pacing, weaving, memorizing… When her brother had not come for her in the first week of her new lift in Helovia, she had decided she needed a hobby. She tried her best to keep her mind busy, and had decided to learn the forest. She still tripped over the occasional root and was prone to confusing herself, but her mind was still so very distracted.
She’d taken a wrong turn, somewhere, and emerged from the forest, into a clearing. She could hear the delicate twinkling of the glass windchimes that swayed gently in the wind along the cliffs and, for a moment, felt safe.
The feeling washed over her, made her feel bold again. Those greedy ears of her caught the sounds of someone drinking nearby and softly picked her way towards the noise, ever so careful. She cleared her throat as she approached the stream, her face tilted awkwardly and pale eyes unblinking. “H-Hello.” Her words were a rusty almost-whisper, but she was near enough then that they could be heard by the Seer.
