Falling fast, black, black, black. It laces through her blood like venom, wild and vicious in it's fury. It clouds her eyes, stings her nose, chokes her lungs. Black, black, black.

Suddenly it's pain that washes over her, the darkness thinning to something else. She strains to see, but she is blind, eyes fogged and face wet with tears. She tries her legs, desperately needing to see, desperately needing to hide. The smell of something burning drowning her, enveloping her with it's might. She cries out, voice  pained as she sways to her hooves, the pain of moving too much, too fast.

They are gone, gone.

It isn't darkness that clouds her now, it's green, blue, black, it's flames, hot, burning, destroying her family before her eyes. She can feel her weight wobble underneath the little security of her soot covered legs and hooves, the mental pain so much worse then the burns that plagued her now.

French spills from her tongue, laced with the chimes and soft words of her true accent. "ne me abandonné pas, do not leave me."  She wined out, so terribly broken, the god's had cursed her and in doing that, cursed all those who lain burnt and still in the remnants of Isisi, her kingdom fall.

She wants to weep, to mourn those whom had left the vessel, to search the stars for their constellations, to read their stories, to melt into this galaxy and disappear in the clutches of it's tales, but she is hopelessly stuck in the walls of reality. She knew that they wouldn't want this and now they watched her, she was the only thing they had left to tie them to the grounds of this realm. They lived through her, there was no other choice but continuation.

Blinking hard she tries to focus on her surroundings, the wailing of her heart whining in her drums as she stumbles forward, nearly falling to her knees again. She doesn't quit, there was no room for giving up, Katerina was no damsel in distress, she was the wise, the enduring, death couldn't hold her down--

Green, blue, black.

She was lying to herself, tears spilling down her face. She saw crimson, the glow of the falls dancing within the daze of her silver orbs. She couldn't help to think it was blood, pouring, pouring, pouring. She coughs, tears slipping freely down her face as she crawls to the falls, each step as agonizing as the other. You can do this. You can, you will.

Making it to the bay, she allows her knees to collapse from underneath her, quickly falling, falling, falling to the soft sands. The rubies below are all that sparkled as her body shifted and her ash covered locks and sooty head were caressed by the pillow of shifting sands and crimson tides.

His wanderings were dreadfully lonely, after his disgraceful exit from the Basin. Despite that, he was glad he had left Mbwene in the Edge, for he could not take her annoyed grumblings at his downtrodden behavior. He was littered with bruises, both physical and emotional. The first from the demigoddess and the latter from his lover. Ex-lover? Mother to his children? His ears splayed sideways, eyes staring down into the red depths. He hadn’t truly enjoyed the Blood Falls. The battle here had been gory, the aftermath riddled with Mauja’s companion nearly dying and an angry, raving black-winged mare.

But these red waters had also been where he had found the golden chains he had given to Rexanna. Perhaps it was dragon’s gold, from the very dragon whose blood made the waters red. Perhaps not. Regardless, the gift he had received in kind, a lion’s claw at his chest, was heavy and cold against the black hide there. Once, before, he had thought to shed the trinket, but Anzanie had stopped him.

So he stood, silently brooding at the water’s morbidly scarlet edge—though he was not left long in his dour mood as suddenly something is coming out of the Falls? His eyes narrow, peering through the vividly red waters to see what was emerging. He could make out proud horns, long white tresses, a grey body; assuredly equid.

Katerina?!” The surpsied, concerned exclamation was out of his lips, his legs moving the moment recognition dawned. His ivory hooves scraped along the rubied bottom, water lapping at his knees as he splashed towards her. His muzzle dropped to her fallen body, cold dread and hot demons beginning to fill his chest and mind as he saw the ash on her skin. His lips urgently nudged her cheek and throat, “Kat, are you alright?”

She is so lost within the depths of her mind, that his words fall short to her drums. She doesn't hear his steps, the splash of water on her skin numb and unrecognized. It was only when his lips touched her skin did she blink, her mind grasping onto the touch with all of it's might, wanting feveriously to be back at the crimson falls, anywhere but the scene that replayed again and again in her mind. This was pathetic, she felt so frail, so vulnerable, crippled under his sea blue eyes. She didn't have to see to know it was him, those lips were no stranger to her skin, the touch that she ached for but had been forbidden. She remembered him pulling her hair, begging for her to stay, she remembered the way her heart screamed for mercy, hoping that Katerina would for once allow something beautiful to become of her life. Instead she had evaded into the shadows, her brain controlling her desire despite the need to stay, the need for him.

Gathering herself, Katerina slowly lifted up her head, sooty lids opening to reveal her platinum eyes, eyes that sought the gaze of Tembovu. She let his question go unanswered, her muzzle reaching out for his as she laid in the soft lulling ruby waters. "Tembovu." She whispers, her voice uneven but soft, trying her best to be strong.

She does not try to stand, knowing that it would be to no avail, her energy too drained. Her legs were cut and bruised, the rocky entrance back into Helovia had thrown her around like a rag doll, but Katerina tried not to dwell on the pain, desperately clenching her mind to the cream and onyx face of Tembovu. "They are all gone. Isisi is gone." She mutters then, the words sounding unreal as she spoke them. She didn't want to talk about it, Katerina would have to heal on her own, she had lived long enough to understand death and leaking out her sorrows and griefs upon Tembovu was not what she wanted. The silver only wished for the comfort of Tembovu, the comfort of his touch, his cologne, him. "I've missed you Temb, I really have." She says then, the feelings within her heart seeping into her soft, fragile words. Her mind tries to tell her that it had been months, seasons, since she had last seen him, that the King had moved on, that he probably had met someone who cared for him the way Katerina had always wanted, but her heart had spoken too quickly. "I didn't want to leave you." She added, teetering on the edge of following her heart or her mind. Fearing rejection, expecting it, preparing for it. How hopeless was she.

Navy eyes met the pale grey, shocked by the pain and loss that he found there. It spoke volumes more than her quiet whisper of his name. “Katerina,” his murmur is quiet against her ashen skin, comforting—though he knows it is futile. The depth of agony in her heather gaze was beyond anyone’s ability to console. He knew. He had experience such suffering.

He felt the sharp bite on his thick hide as small rubies (leeches began to attach to his limbs that were submerged beneath the red-tinted waters as he stood over her crumpled form. His cream legs look blushed beneath the surface, and the thick columns move around the pale grey of Kat’s, trying to ward the ruby leeches away from her exhausted, soot-stained body. Though the ruby waters had begun to lap away some of the ash; the King wasn’t sure that red-stained waters were any better.

His black-rimmed ears swing forward, eyes tracing the constellation that framed her face as she spoke, “They are all gone. Isisi is gone.” A low, soft breath pushed past his nostrils, a deep and pained hum sounding in the back of his throat for her loss. And her next words, they are soothing to the loneliness that had pushed him here, making him gaze at his solitary reflection in crimson waters. “You had to go, Kat. I know that,” was his first consoling murmur, his cannon bone gently resting against her as a support, “I missed you,” his legs pushed softly, urging her to rise, “But you must get up, out of the water.” His gaze flickers to the bloodthirsty creatures that were beginning to grow in number around them.

“I’m sorry,” his whisper was low, pained, and quiet.

She feels lost by entrances of the buzzy air that surrounded her, clawing at her mind with talons of something so foreign, hollowing her out so that the pain easily penetrated through her weakened walls. She was in Helovia now. There were no azure hills that rolled endlessly into the galactic horizon, no great chapels of stained glass and filled with scrolls of knowledge that he had fed upon as a child, nothing. He was gone, they were gone, the very fibers of her existence ripped away, burnt to the ground as if it never even mattered.

She notices the pressure of his legs, oblivious to the monsters that lurked beneath the surface of the waters. She only wanted to be clean of the dirt, the ash of Isisi, the embers of everything she knew. So with empty, glossed eyes, she rose like a phoenix out of ash, except the silver did not shine anew. Her knees wobbled, threatening, begging for the relief of crashing back to the ground.

Her eyes pinched closed as short, pained breaths escape sooted lips as she forced herself up and turned her platinum orbs to the only thing she did know: Tembovu. [color=##4630dd]"Why are you sorry? Don't be." She spoke in uneven, raspy words, the lull of her silken chords exhausted and gone. Teetering out of the waters and to the bay, she lowered her head and attempted to bury her face in the warm, broad chest of Tembovu. The sobs did not come, but tears traced the ink of her lined face. She knew of Tembovu's past and in this moment of nakedness, she was glad that the plainsman -who knew all to well- her suffering was who had found her.

The Elephant King is relieved as the ashen warmth of her skin against his supporting legs shifts, moves, and up she rises onto ash and red stained limbs. A glance towards her legs for leeches shows him, instead, their weak trembling and he immediately leans his great mass against her quaking form in support. His ears lay back slightly as he can see the tremors of loss physically wrack her star-studded skin. His navy gaze watches her own silver eyes shutter close in pain. Gently, his warm muzzle reaches towards her neck, as his body presses against hers in support, in an attempt to quiet and calm her trembles.

He followed her out of the scarlet waters, eyes carefully watching to make sure that she did not slip on the rough, rubied bottom. And then he is there alongside her as she presses her ashen, dripping face into his chest. Black-rimmed ears twitch at her raspy, broken voice; his navy gaze stares, unseeing, into the ruby waters that reflected red on his glassy stare.

Though he did not feel her tears amid the water that had already wet his chest, he did lower his skull and gently cradle her head with his neck. “I am sorry you are going through this,” was his quiet murmur. He said no more on the matter, because he knew that this was beyond words. This kind of pain and loss spoke in screams and sobs; in conversed thrashing nightmares and the stomach-drop of dreadful mornings when you awake to a world without them.

So, instead, he simply said, “Let’s get you back to the Edge. The Doctors can heal any injuries you have. And they may have some herbs for dreamless sleep.” The physical injuries could be healed, at least. But he did not say that, instead gently lipping her damp, cream strands of mane as he held her.
