Everything is light and fuzzy. Her emotions evaporate with the temporary loss of memory. She’s floating with the sun, far, far away from here. Those eyes are half closed, high, almost, with the lack of oxygen shutting down the least desirable things to note. But she’s breathing, and somehow her legs are keeping her still. The wind gives a gentle nudge, but the girl doesn’t even feel it roll across her back or wings. As a result, those wings sag further from her body, primaries drooping to the salty ocean floor.

Where there is nothing there is temporary relief. Like a new slate, the death of her mother to the unknown eases her sorrow and it’s absolutely wonderful here. Hugged with golden warmth, and the sun’s wonderful –

“You fly.” It’s a noise that interjects with a cruel, pinpricking sensation. It breaks her bubble, tells her that something is wrong if she doesn’t know where its coming from.

Oh – there we are; she sucks in more air and shifts restlessly back from the small figure. Ru’s eyes open further. She gasps underneath her breath as it all comes crashing down. The gravity of every little fear that cracks underneath her gaze, collecting its weight at an incredible speed; a product of those returning memories, as they collide all at once into consciousness. There is no high, no momentary reprieve when she settles her eyes on the startled boy.

She simply stares back, uncertain of what just happened.

More words assault her ears, an unfamiliar voice that breaches the mare’s steady gaze on the little one. Bright eyes snap to the stallion beside them, uncertainty tightening her muscles – expecting something nefarious to occur, for the lack of time she’d just lost. The idea that anything could happen, and she had no idea how or why.

Ru almost darts in the opposite direction, to run, to avoid danger or embarrassment – whichever it was, she wasn’t going to be there.

“Maybe you oughta come out of the water, then we can talk.” But she manages to steady herself instead, with a small, flinching motion as he approaches. He doesn’t look much older than her, his voice holds on odd tune – one nearly familiar, long forgotten.

Ru gives a complacent nod, as she directs her body out of the waters. Not far from the lapping waves she stops to close her eyes, and shake her head. The stars are gone, but her head feels funny. Her nostrils flare as she thinks about her breath - steady, she hums in her head. Despite her company she ignores them for the sake of fighting against her body. Resisting the fiery urge to expand her lungs quickly, and shallow. Seconds pass, a minute? Before her breath relaxes against the brief struggle.

She shifts in the sands, awkward and slightly displaced, to gather their faces again. She lets out a soft coo to them by habit, as was her sign to them that was fine. Forcing a practiced smile against her sooty lips.

From here she can see them clearly. The boy-child is black as midnight, with wide and nearly gentle eyes. They are endless, and although pointed and sharp by their intensity – there is a comfort in that endless sight. Something that Ru doesn’t quite acknowledge, or doesn’t really understand – before she sweeps her gaze to the bay stallion. She finally realizes he is without a wing, but her gaze doesn’t linger there for very long; she understands the feeling of being appraised by strangers. Realizations and opinions of someone who could never appreciate the challenge.

Ru tilts her head curiously, wondering what could have possibly made them congregate all at once. And gave a bright and airy chirp in greetings.
