With fire to keep us warm, and tools we made from rocks and bones

What's dead?

Her question gave him pause. Hadn't he been asked that precise question recently? Or at least, one very close to it? But by who? The rose created from coloured glass suddenly weighed heavily just behind his ear as if trying to suggest an answer, but Gaucho's addled mind couldn't formulate it.

"Dead is gone from this world. Dead go to great plains in sky." He grunted with a knowing nod, casting his gaze upwards to where the sky was bleeding out in a plethora of reddish colours that would soon turn dark and starlit.

A small waft of silvery smoke poured from Gaucho's antler. It drifted downwards taking the form of an eagle. Gaucho was sure that the creature almost fully decomposed before them was not an eagle, but such was the form his creations normally took. The fire-bird hopped around the bones, not disturbing them per-se, for it would take more than mere fire alone to upset the little pile. "Bones no move on their own." Gaucho observed as the eagle continued to pass easily through them. But they could move, couldn't they? Someone here ... more than one someone in fact, could move bones. Who was it? A flash of blue and a lock of nearly white danced in front of his eyes, but the dun blinked it away. He was in no mood for the tricks of his mind.

He looked thoughtfully at the girl for a moment. Most children didn't have the patience to not scare things, for that took time and attention. That this child did was impressive to say the least, and he thought it rather endearing that she had laid up here watching this pile of bones, fearful that it might run away from her (then again if Grusha had been around, they very well might have).
