I’ve become a simple souvenir of someone’s kill
Despite having already shaken the sleep from her mind and body, it still lay sunken beneath the creases of her eyes as she looked at the inverted world around her. She took it in, listening to the eerie sharp sounds as it shrieked across the world around her. Marembo began to whimper quietly, and she reached down to the polecat as he grabbed onto her horn, pulling him up alongside her back. Crawling across her mane, the polecat settled around her withers. Rexanna’s gaze returned to the inky world around her, noticing the way it swirled around her feet, but the thing that stuck out for her more was the sound as it shot off multiple times.

Perhaps she was looking for a more ominous meeting, instead of the usual business-like meeting she was used to with the Rift battles, the giant elephant offering to give a companion to those worthy of it, and the strange memory inducing pools in the Flats. It was all strange, but not nothing that compared to this experience. Her gaze lifted toward the sky once again, feeling the air as though it went straight through her, but it wasn’t bad it was just… different. Yet, she still paid attention to the sky as she approached, and watched as one of the inky explosions seemed to divert its course. It barreled toward her, falling to the earth with an extreme quickness that made her heart beat in a rapid succession.

It landed at her hooves, sparkling and dying before her eyes. “Oh no.” She began, lifting a hoof almost warily as the sparks shot off from it as it writhed along the ground. Concern now lined her eyes, and she stared at it with a strange curiosity and pull to it. The whistles had died down to a whimper, much like Marembo had done prior, and she felt the soft splashes that occurred on her skin as the sparks reached for her flesh. Perhaps it was her motherly instinct that hated to see something in pain, regardless if it was something real or not. It moved and writhed and seemed like it was dying, and the only thing the Thief could think of was to try and console this thing somehow. Marembo mentally tried to pull her away from her idea, but Rexanna was far too confident in her ideas to let him try to change her mind. And with that, she lowered her head further and further, planting her feet softly in the earth before pressing her nose against the dying explosion.

Maybe it was a stupid idea, but only time would tell.

"Talk."
And like the sea—
I’m constantly changing from calm to ill.
