Overhead, the high afternoon Sun beams down on the small span of meadow between the forest and the Edge.  A stiff, hot wind occasionally scrapes wearily through, carrying with it the scent of the ocean, but Maude, laying on her back, hooves tucked to her chest, her head flipped back so that the nubs of her horns are pressed into the Earth, can only smell the green, green scent of grass warmed by light.

With a wild kick, her hind legs buck up as she flips her nose back up, flopping over onto her side in the motion, reveling in the delightful scratch of the grass against her back.  To the other side she flips suddenly, then again, and again...  Pausing on one side or the other from time to time to take deep, delightful breaths of the world around her, the copper kissed filly dwells on nothing but the joy of being, her mother nearby.  Every so often, Maude lifts her head up ever so slightly to look over at her, white and obvious in an emerald world, feeling comfort settle into her young heart, like a warm stone into shallow water, before returning to her wild rolling.

In one flop, her eye presses against the earth.  A bloom of white light rises though her gaze is curtained and dark, and she lays still for a moment pondering what has just occurred.  Pressing her cheek hard against the earth again, her eye pushing almost painfully against the grass, the white light appears as it had before, and a giggle blooms from the child in delight of this new discovery.  To the other side she flips, more laughter tinkling like bells through the air when her left eye is the same as her right.  With each strange bloom of light, her excitement builds, until, after some minutes, she can bare to lay still no longer.

Recklessly, as only children are prone, the girl is suddenly on her hooves, and bounding through the monstrously tall grasses (for one so dainty and new).  The tall blades wrap about her legs, slowing what she is sure would be blinding speed if not for their grasping.  Unleashing a tiny snort, her hind hooves darting out behind her, as if to bid the brush to leave her legs be.

Soon, her mother is a white blip at the other end of the meadow.  Where some children might experience anxiety, the girl is thrilled with the freedom, pausing from her wild dash to stand and snort in place, looking all about her at all this room.  It’s hard to decide what to do with it, really, or what game to play now that she had some privacy.  It’s also hard to think of games that only involve a Maude, now that she thinks about it.

[ OOC: @Arah for mentions, as I figure she'll be close by on mom duty. <3  Otherwise open for anyone! ]

ZUBARI
Yeah I have trust issues, can you blame me?.

The boy had wondered a bit away from mom. It is not that he did not want to be around here, he just wanted to venture out. Black small hooves did not prance, nor have a childish bounce to them. They just walked calm and steady though the trees and small brush of the forest. Golden sharp studs peaked from his skull with vibrant color. Horns tall and sharp would soon stand in the stubs spots when the boy gets older. Chocolate colors warmed in the suns light and his deep black spots soon started to peak through his pelt. Gold eyes peered behind him looking for his sister. "Come On Kat, don't you want to know what else is out there?" the small voice reached out to help comfort the deep cream filly. She was always next to him, and he would follow her through anything. If she walked through a burning hot fire, he would be right behind her.

He had a love for his sister it was deep rooted from the womb and he honestly did not care for anyone but her. He longed to keep her happy and keep her safe from anyone or anything . He then saw a blur, a glimmer of light dragging him through the trees. Gold eyes narrowed watching this thing role and play in the grass. His brain could not comprehend what the thing was doing. He looked over to his sister to watch what her reaction would be. Then the little gold flash of light started racing towards them. It's legs moved quickly through the open grass. It started getting closer and loser to the twins. Zubari pinned his ears and tried to stand in front of his sister. The boy would die to protect her, that was the other part of his soul.

The light gold filly stood still right before the twins. Zubari narrowed his eyes looking at the girl."What are you doing?" His small voice questioned the girl. She was acting so weird running around and playing (Is that what you call it?). How was she doing that by her self? The boy looked to his sister. To him Katua was the only girl that was pretty, besides his mom. He could not appreciate how this fillies delicate features would grow into a beautiful young woman. Zubari could not quite understand why him and his sister looked so different from the other. Their markings were not the normal here in Helovia. Little did the boy know that his roots fell in African like world, and he and his sister were the first full blooded foals born in Helovia. His attention fell back to the filly standing in front of them. His face grew board as he watched the girl for a response.

Wherever Zubari was one could rest assured that Katua would not be far behind. He tended to move through the Edge a bit faster than she did, if only because she spent her time examining every flower, tree, and bush that they passed by. The world was a new and exciting place and Tutti wanted to soak in every ounce of it that she could. She had stopped, her muzzle thrust into a short bush that she had seen a bird fly in to. The sound of Zubari's voice made her lift her head, her ears straining forward as she looked toward his dark shape. He certainly knew how to make her forget about her current investigations!

"Wait up, Zubi!" She called and she bounded toward him, her blue eyes remained fixed on his dark coat because if she didn't focus on him something else would distract her and she'd be off again. As Tutti reached her brother she stopped abruptly and nearly toppled over. "Whaddya think's out there?" She asked, because he'd brought it up. "D'ya think there's monsters?" Her eyes grew wide. "I bet they're as big as Poppy."

Something had Zubari's attention, though, and Tutti turned her gaze from him and looked at the other girl. "Oh, she's pretty!" The spotted girl exclaimed and she started forward. "Hi!" She called out to the other girl. "I'm Tutti and he's Zubi. Are you playing? Can we play, too?" She glanced back at her brother and smiled. "Come on, Zubi!" The girl exclaimed.

‘What are you doing?’

It’s a question the wind carries like a sharp thing into her thoughts mid-dance. Her graceful leap is cut short, her legs catching the ground suddenly, her snowy body stumbling as she looks over at the boy with both anger and surprise. Meeting his eyes with a second wave of surprise (which she quickly sullies with an angry frown), she realizes she knows him, and the girl bounding up behind him.

The babies she’d met, when she’d followed Daddy when he’d told her to stay at the greenhouse with the other healers. She thinks that their names are Zubari and Katua, but she could be wrong; it had been a really busy day, after all.

Unlike her brother, the filly is sweet. Maude looks at her with a big smile that makes her insides feel warm, especially when she’s asked if they can play, too. It’s just what she’d been hoping for! She wasn’t going to let “Zubi” and his bad attitude ruin the afternoon, and the chance to make friends. Drawing into her lungs a deep breath to let gather up all those hot, angry feelings, she expels them in a single breath to make room for joy, the ginger and cream girl gestures around her. Even though she doesn’t know what game she was playing, the little one quickly pieces together what few tendrils of thought had led her leaps and erratic running.

There is a tornament!” childishly explains the darling, as if her words lift a curtain within thought that reveal the gathered spectators, the shining armor imaginarily adorning their small bodies, and their frenzied foes, “first is the dance, which just ended, sowwy.

She would be loath to admit that she had ended the dance specifically to avoid dancing with Zubi. As was evident when they’d arrived, she’d rather been enjoying herself, but it was better to move onto a different game than hurt anyone’s feelings.

But the race is now!” beaming, the filly trots speedily towards the forest, and snatches up a long stick, which comically drags and bounces along behind her, from the ground. Tossing it onto the meadow floor, she proceeds to stamp on it while explaining the rest, “you start here, and you go to other side of field, by my mom. Winner gets a Gem of Speed!

She’d stashed a good many interesting rocks and acorns today, as well. That they were regular stones and not actual Gems might be a bit disappointing, but Maude was rather proud of them, and hoped that the twins would like them too.

Wanna do it?” hopefully asks the filly, her citrine eyes glittering eagerly as she prances to place behind the starting line.

ZUBARI
Yeah I have trust issues, can you blame me?.

The girls face made Zubari just want to kick the wretched thing. Gold eyes narrowed upon the girls soured face and he was just about to turn and leave until..."Oh, she's pretty!". Golden eyes wanted to roll, all the boy wanted to do was just walk away from the situation, but now he was stuck here. A smile fell upon his maw as he looked to his sister. She was so full of light and joy, the boy could not say no to her. Zubari loved his sister deeply, and he would do anything to make her happy. Even if it involved playing with this little rotten beam of sunshine Chocolate tones walked behind his sister as she asked if they could play too.

First thing the boy notices is the little beam of sunshine does not introduce her self. Tutti went out of her way to put a name to their face, but the girl could not return the same favor? Then he saw how she was only addressing his sister. Yes, he might have scared her, but he only asked a simple question. To get the response he did from the little rotten sun beam left a sour taste in his mouth. Golden eyes wanted to narrow upon the disrespectful girl, but they remained calm and poised. Not an ounce of his emotions leaked from his face, the boy just simply looked happy to be with his sister. OH JOY A RACE! The sarcasm was pouring out inside of him, but he dare not to speak one word. His Golden eyes wondered to his joyful sister and his head tilted. Words came from the boy's mouth once the little sun beam was out of hearing distance. She was running to the woods for something... "Did she tell you her name? We can stay and play for a bit, but mom is going to start to wounder where we are. " The boy had t clarify that the girl did not speak her name to them before she came back. The rotten beam of sunshine then placed a long stick down and told them the extent of the race. Zubari waited for his sister to move closer first before he joined in. A race should be fun, at least the beam of sunshine can't talk and breath at the same time.

Tutti's mouth formed the shape of an 'o' as the other girl began to explain that there was a tournament. Being so young she didn't fully understand what the word meant, but it sounded exciting and she was always ready for excitement and fun. "What's a tournament?" she asked, her delicate head tilting as the other girl began to explain that first there was a dance that just ended, sowwy. "Awh, shoot." The girl said and she scuffed a hoof against the ground and looked over at her brother. "Your monster hunting made us late!" She said, but of course she had been the one poking around the bushes looking for unsightly things.

"But the race is now!" The other girl exclaimed and Tutti found herself prancing in place. She hadn't ever danced before, but she loved to run and she was quite good at it if she did say so herself. "I love races!" She said excitedly and she looked to her brother once more. "A race Zubi!" But she quieted when he pointed out that the girl hadn't said her name and that their mother would be looking for them. "We're not doing nothing wrong!" She said. "We're makin' friends!" And that was what Mom wanted for them, wasn't it?

"Come on, let's race!" Tutti said and she trotted over to where Maude said that the starting line was. "A gem of speed?" She asked, her blue eyes widening. That sounded exciting and valuable! She definitely had to win it so she could show it to Mom and Poppy and tell them about winning it in a race. "Come on Zubi!".

Tutti nodded her head vigorously when The other girl asked if they wanted to do it. "Yeah!!" She shouted happily. Her hooves danced in place as she waited for the others to get ready and she waited for the signal to finally start running.

Why, the bestest thing ever!” blurts the exuberant filly when asked what a tournament is, “the King hosts games and stuff, to see who is the strongest and smartest in their land. Sometimes there is prizes like today! But everyone is always very proud to be a part of the tornament, ‘cause they don’t happen a whole lot.

Of course, she knew what little she knew of tournaments from her mother’s tales, and the tidbits and trailing plotlines her father wove into Arah’s story telling. Still, it didn’t tarnish the efficacy of the images that flooded her mind, or the imaginary scene she hoped to put on for the twins.

At first, when the mention of the upcoming race is brought up, Katua is very enthusiastic. Lighting up with delight that her game was indeed a good one, her smile is quickly dashed by Zubari’s more reserved nature. Frowning at the goody two shoes colt, Maude adds her own two cents to what Katua already spouts at the moody boy, hiding her embarrassment at having not introduced herself with a quick curtsy of greeting.

Oh, oops. I’m Maude de Co’binus Arbor, ” she sweetly says upon looking back up, apologetically smiling with a playful swish of her milky tail, “And Katua is right! We’re just playing. My mom is just right over there, anyway. You’re not gonna get hurt or lost or nothin’.

She’s so sure of that notion that when Katua prances to the starting line, Maude is quick to set up alongside her, her narrow, filly’s neck arcing in what she imagines to be a very strong and graceful way.

You coming, Zubari?” she smiles, her pale green eyes sparkling, “you can even count down to the start!
