Adventures had been scarce, the land she found so interesting revealing no new secrets. Ever since meeting her aunt, Romina could not cease the voice in her mind that whispered how much better the other herdlands must be. How many secrets, puzzles, and people they must hold. Returning to the Basin every evening made her skin crawl, knowing there were so many unturned rocks and untouched soils out there in the great beyond. Waiting for her to explore, conquer, raize, and move on from. Even the blaze of fading summer could not convince her that the Basin was habitable for her and Ru'in. The pervasive could surely did not suit her mother's Arabian blood either, but the Valkyrie was a Queen. Romina couldn't fathom any climate that would dissuade her mother from that role, for she believed nobody better could exist as a Lady. Even if that was ridiculously biased.

Except Romina was no Queen, here. A mere princess, whose golden tiara was side-eyed because of the features she had been born with. Family or no, Romina's nomadic heart demanded fulfillment. So while she was reluctant to trod back into the Basin, past the rubble of metal gleaming in the dying afternoon sun, it was not without a plan formulating in her mind.

Mama did not come to bed until far after she and Ru'in had fallen asleep, leaving their family cavern vacant. Romina's bitterly twisted lips unfurled like a blooming rose as she lifted her pumpkin eyes to the horizon, her twin's looming frame greeting her, backlit by the dying sun. She runs to him, sinuous tail swaying pale strands behind her as she dances across the snow to the warmth of his familiar body. The Banshee presses herself against her brother without hesitation, practically melting into him, wishing to erase all lines and barriers between he and her. What a cruel world it was, that they had been born in different bodies, disconnected. But she will not linger on thoughts like that, not when he is there with her now.

"Ru'in," she croons, like his name is the saving grace of every sinner's soul. Hers in particular, and she will dirty the purity of his wings with her charcoal-stained hands. Sequester her angel away where only she can bathe in his radiance, for nobody else deserved to see that side of him. "It's cold, let's go inside," she says primly, playfully wrapping her teeth around his mane and tugging, eyes warm as she turns and leads the way into the cavern. Never once doubting that he would be following her heels, as faithful to her as she was to him.

Away from the chilled wind of approaching evening, she pressed up against him once more, sharing heat and skin freely. "Have you ever thought of going to one of the other herds, beloved?" She tucks herself against his side, glancing sideways at him from beneath snowy lashes. "Where it is warm, where there are fewer crafters, where Alice cannot follow..." turns her voice wistful and sad purposefully to engage him in this vision she is painting. One of freedom, independence, and adventure. Where I go, you will always follow. But I want you to come willingly.

Returning home to her is always the highlight of his day. As they have grown, they have spent slightly less time together during the day, but that is to be expected. It doesn't weigh on his heart, nor does it drag his thoughts down into the lowly gutters. He has a soul only for her, and time apart only makes his heart lighter when he finally does get to look upon her again.

Today is no different.

As she runs to greet him, it's as if the difficulty of the day slips away. Now she is here - cleverer, prettier, better, and it's as if his mind shuts off. He has no need to do anything other than be in her presence.

"Roh-" He intones, his voice gruff but the word is sweetly enough said. He allows himself to be led, completely docile, as if her miniature frame is anything compared to the mammoth that he has become. His long tusks caress the side of her curvaceous neck as she pulls him deeper into their home. She mentions the cold, but to him, coldness is a fact of life. His coat has ever been thick, but the Aurora Basin has made it shaggy, despite the fact that Tallsun was still a close memory. The boy would always be covered in a thick blanket of fur, or so he thought. Cold was cold. Cold was life.

The tusked giant wraps his tail around his twin's smaller and more beautiful frame. Despite the fact that he is quite warm, the places where her body touches his seem to sizzle and make everything else feel colder in comparison. Colder? No ... not colder...perhaps just ... just lacking. Lacking her.

One pale and one acorn coloured eye turn to her (careful to keep his ever growing tusks away from where they might strike her), to regard her thoughtfully. The look on his face clearly answers her question: of course he has never thought of leaving. But then again, he does leave the thinking up to her. Silent, as that is always his way, he ruminates on her words as she continues.

...where there are fewer crafters... at this, Ru'in breaks his silence and grunts. The sound is low in his throat, and it's a rumble that seems to spread throughout his whole body. "Deimos sahys aye cahnnot crahft here." He responds, the bitterness and disapproval clear in the rough words he speaks. "Tooh yhung." The colt barks a laugh, his lip raising slightly in a sneer. "Hahve ye ever even seehn one ohf tha crahfters here, Roh?" He poses rhetorically. "Narr." He answered for her, as a creation of bronze suddenly springs to life. It is a deer, with gears deep inside that make its legs dance back and forth on an invisible breeze. "Tooh yhung." he sneers, though his voice is mostly monotone, as he lets the bronzey thing crumble into a fine powder of bronze that drifts towards the cave floor.

Ru'in meets his twin's gaze, and finds himself wondering if there is a way to saturate his bronzey magic so that his creations will have the same hue as her eyes. The boy sighs, happily submitting himself to her stare. He says nothing more however, because on the subject of where they live, there is only one variable that means anything to him. It could be the Dragon's Throat for all her cares - and he would happily shave off the thick layers of fur he's accumulated to dwell in that hellish sauna for her. Alice, cold, crafting ... it's all secondary to her.

These apartment walls are paper thin.
And no one is trying to listen in.
To hear our doubts, hear our whispered shouts: they don't care.

If there is one injustice in this world, it is the fact that her brother's rumbling, beautiful voice is impeded by his majestic tusks. But her name, or rather her nickname, is so perfectly easy for him to pronounce that Romina cannot be bothered by it. It is how it should be, after all, and she falls into the singular syllable like a linen blanket wrapped round her shoulders. Perhaps a bit rough, but pleasant and soothing nonetheless against the cold of the north. A happy hum escapes her smiling lips as the smooth curve of his tusk rubs against the curve of her lithe neck, and she presses into the touch like a feline, her lithe tail brushing against him in answering proprietary touch. She likely takes too much pleasure in the different textures and temperatures of his body, but they are already mutated and outcasted from normality. What she seeks from his mind, body, and soul cannot be perceived as any more or less sinful than what fate has already doomed them with. He is the only one devoted to her, the only one who understands and loves her, and so she is the vulture that defends her prize against every mildly interested party.

They come together as if roosting, staring into one another's eyes until the world fades away and they are simply the only ones left. Romina and Ru'in. Ru and Ro. The rest can burn, and she watches with a squirm of pleasure in her belly as he scoffs around his horns. The beauty's visage crumples into something hateful and disgusted as he relays this news to her, a spark of vengeance already taking root in the warm autumn shades of her eyes. "They are unimaginative with their crafts," she huffs, not so rude as to spit or hiss this mockery of their works. They do not deserve her vitriol, not yet. And not when her dearest brother calls upon the metals of the earth, a dancing deer leaping about before crumbling beneath his displeasure, back to particles. Romina croons and presses little kisses to his face in blatant praise.

"See? Even in moments your creations are so much more beautiful, Ru," she breathes, wishing he had not destroyed it so quickly. It truly had been beautiful, after all. "You are too good for them, brother. Deimos is blind if he thinks your age should keep you from his ranks," and here enters her displeasure, the burn of her eyes returning from the warm coals they had become. "And I will do whatever it takes to let you craft." The flint of her eyes sparks, and though his desires are somewhat secondary to her own, they are still placed far higher than anyone else on the mortal plane. Her plans and his needs were the only factors that mattered to Romina.

A soft, plaintive sigh leaves the girl as her passion momentarily dwindles, eyes returning to the bronze filaments dusting across the cavern floor. "They will all say we are too young. How stupid of them." Romina didn't even know what she wanted to do with her life, if she were forced to take upon herself one of the regimented roles of the herdlands. She was no healer, and had never fought with anything beyond her mind and her barbed tongue. Perhaps she could follow in her mother's and aunt's steps to pursue the life of a thief and phantom, but even that was not entirely satisfactory. Romina wanted to be a ground breaker. She did not want to simply be the shadow of her mother's ghost.

"We should just leave," she spat unhappily, tail lashing against her dainty hocks. "You can take all the information you want from any of the other herd crafters, and we can leave this place. Travel until we find something we desire." The frown lifted slightly from her lips as she moved to nudge their muzzles together, shamelessly demanding his comfort. "Just the two of us. We don't need anybody else."
