@Cera

Thèo had not yet left the Dragon's Throat. As of now, he hadn't really seen a reason to go. There was still more than enough of the bloody red sands to see and areas to explore. Why venture outwards when his wings could still not support him, and his homelands were not intimately known to him? Though the boy had a child-like curiousity, he already seemed saddled with responsibility, for he was taking what should have been childlike exploration fairly seriously.

The boy's wide green eyes scanned the reddish sands with interest. Because he was still so young and his imagination so inexperienced, everything that he saw seemed completely unique and unexpected. The way the sands folded into dunes? Incredible! Wait, more dunes? Who could have predicted that? As his search continued, he (thankfully) came upon the Oasis. The sunshine that appeared to be blazing down upon him more intently than anywhere else, suddenly appeared brighter. The gray of Thèo's coat became white as his excitement caused the magic that constantly washed over him to shine even brighter.

"Water!" He exclaimed to himself, before bounding forward. His legs, long and strong like his newly departed Father's, carried him easily across what felt like an endless red sea, towards the cooling waters of the Oasis. As soon as he arrived, he stopped delicately at the edge, careful to keep his golden cloven hooves away from the water as much as possible. Awkwardly he stretched his banded neck forward to try and drink, but because of the proportions of his young body, this task was not easily accomplished. And so, delicately, he allowed his hooves to inch forward, his ears flickering backwards as the water rose up above his hoof and onto his skin. Sheepishly, for this seemed improper to the boy, he quickly looked around to see if anyone had seen his transgression, before dipping his muzzle low again to greedily drink.

LUTHER
"Sleep with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head"

Much the opposite of his brother, Luther was a quiet creature, unperturbed by the unfolding "new" story of his life. Dunes were dunes. The sky was the sky. No matter how often these feature repeated, even if there were rocks and plants and other things in the way, he wasn't fascinated. There wasn't anything to contemplate really; it just was. It existed. That's that. He couldn't really change its state of being, and even if he could, he wouldn't. Was there really a big difference between a rock being on one spot versus another? Not really.

What did beg his attention was his state of being in this world - how he fit into the environment and how it affected him personally. For example, the sun was beating down on his red and black body with impunity, and he was rather hot. Sweat trickled down his striped neck as he shuffled toward water (he could smell it), knowing that the liquid and shade would cool him down. Luther lifted his useless (weak) wings so that air could flow over his sides as he wandered through sand toward the center of the island.

Red, cloven hooves slid through the sand and then arrived at the water's edge. Much the opposite of his brother who seemed to drink daintily nearby, Luther walked straight in. He felt the cool water rise to about chest height before he backed out, shaking out his coat once he was standing under his own weight again. Once the water calmed down, he looked at his reflection and furrowed his brows. Little, black nubs were starting to appear on his brow, and he wasn't sure that he liked them.

He couldn't explain why, but he didn't. Compared to mother and brother, he was very different. Black flames like burning darkness traveled along his wings, and he was even darker in color than the other two. Did he look like his father, at least? He hoped so. He wanted to belong to someone...

Quietly, Luther wandered around the water's edge and he came to stand beneath a tree branch, appreciating his mother's "communal parenting" technique. She didn't hover, and he got to learn from more than just one parent.

Like his brother, Thèo too appreciated Aithniel's communal attitude towards rearing the boys. Perhaps that's what explained the not-quite intimate feeling that he experienced when he was around Luther or his Mother. Being raised by the herd, rather than one parent or parents, had already taught the grey child that blood relations might not be especially valuable. Or at least, they weren't necessarily knowledge-conferring. Perhaps that's why he didn't experience the sort of twin-pull that others might, towards their womb-mates. But he did feel something towards his darker brother. The boys weren't quite opposites. They weren't yin and yang, or at least, Thèo couldn't quite tell how they were meant to fit together yet.

Still, as his brother joined him at the water's edge, the paler of the two boys looked onward without judgement, just as Luther did to the landscape. As Luther eagerly entered the Oasis, Thèo's gaze became one of puzzlement. He looked back to his own hooves, carefully placed, and then back to Luther. Snorting to himself, Thèo took a step forward into the water. Immediately he felt his body temperature seem to plunge as the cool water drifted around his knees.

>>Cold<< he thought. Or at least, he thought that he only thought it. His magic projected the word towards the mind of his brother, even as Luther walked towards a tree. Not realizing what he had done, the golden horned boy dropped his head back to the water and continued drinking.
