And what exactly was it he expected to learn? The lengths to which a mother would go to protect her child and small companion from what she saw as a threat? He might not have thought or seen himself a threat, but she certainly did. His hulking size alone was reason enough to be wary. The way he stopped and stared was reason more.

Ktulu's muscles continued to bunch under her inky coat as the tree beast spoke. She watched him, studied his body for any sign of movement and when she did see it she moved her body to the side and against Toto, blocking him from the beast. With the turn of her body his kick glanced off of her shoulder and skimmed her neck. In retaliation Ktulu bucked, her hind legs flying behind her in the hopes that the tree stallion was already turning to come after her. Then maybe she could smack him in the face and crush it.

"Move." she said to her son who did as he was told and ran with Eytan for the trees in the distance. Ktulu spun around, her magic exploding forth from her body and seeking out Birch. It entered his body and traveled swiftly to his lungs where it wrapped around them in a choke hold.
