It was turning out to be a joyous couple of days. It hadn’t started that way though. He had returned from battle weary, and bruised. Not nearly as battered as some of his comrades had been. Still though, he could taste decaying flesh and burnt fur along his senses. The empty eyes of the fallen lingered upon his mind’s eye. Salvation was close at hand with each marching step, the heavy sadness of death and destruction fled when his gaze caught sight of a sandy youth. Relief had nearly shattered his heart when he found Cera safe and well. They met with tender affection; tears were spent on both ends that night. Midas retold all that had happened during the battle. He told of his victorious fight with Lloyd, and how the battle had been won.

Finally, the tired warrior fell into a dreamless slumber. Warmth of another close by kept visions of empty souls from his sleep. They awoke to fresh ashen sorrow with a rising sun when news came of Jaydan falling prey. As was proper, he grieved and spoke a prayer for his brother in arms. Midas prayed that his feathered avian friend might find peace within the strong embrace of his lord. It was then that he began to teach Cera of the traditions of the gods he had learned from a mothering dam and sire so long ago.

The colt was willing to learn, and curious of their heavenly host. He told his youth stories about the gods, stories that had been passed down from his childhood. Midas spoke of each lord favorably, but pressed that he offered the lord of earth his worship and loyalty; simply because it was the earth that called him even in early years. Cera would have to choose which lord he desired to worship or even if he desired to worship one at all. Either way, Midas planned a trip for them and took Cera to visit his lord’s shrine one quiet evening.

OOC: This is for Cera <'3 calling upon the lord of Earth for his request. Using Cera's chance at the Vein. Midas is just a parently escort.

With the turning of the sun and moon in their daily orbits, Cera had found peace settle within him at last. When Midas, his beloved father, had gone off to war with the swarm of other soldiers, Cera had been distraught. Wandering the Throat for hours in his sorrow, only to return under their tree to wait silently with tired eyes for his arrival. Sleep came fast but never lasted long, the lanky patched colt always fearing he would miss his daddy's return. When the cheer went up through the remaining members, that their brethren had returned, Cera had dashed to the greeting point as their weary soldiers passed over the border. Relief nearly. Rushed him as he sobbed and thanked every spirit and God for returning Midas safely. His form had refused to move from his side for days, always shadowing him. Afraid he would up and leave again. Would be harmed once more. But their talks and naps resumed and Cera slowly relaxed into their normal pattern. Soaking in all the information Midas presented to him with fervor. His father spoke highly of the Earth God, of his kindness and his own devotion to the immortal soul. More than anything, Cera wanted to meet the mentor of his own role model.

"Will he like me if he comes?" It had been a rather quiet journey but Cera was afraid that this kind God that Midas was loyal to wouldn't approve of him. He had been warned that the Earth God was sometimes busy and couldn't always appear, but still he found his heart beating rapidly. All sorts of what if's going through his mind as they drew closer. Once they were there it would be the God of Earth to answer his question with his reaction.

The air was quiet and still, the atmosphere one of calm and undisturbed peace- but the veins were not unoccupied. From his place as a part of the earth, the great God watched with an affectionate curiosity as the father led along his son. He recognized Midas and was pleased to see him, particularly now with one of his own to care for. The pious stallion was sure to make a good father, the God was certain of that.

At the sound of the colt's voice, the God of the Earth shuddered and shook from his back the mountainside, leaving crumbling earth and sprouting plants in his wake. His expression turned to one of warmth and kindness, and in deep, rumbling tones he answered the young one, "If you are anything like your father, I suppose we will get along just fine." The massive being stepped closer to the pair and nodded graciously towards Midas. His collar suited him well; the God could not help but admire his own handiwork. "Now tell me, child," he questioned with a turn towards Cera, "what is it that you seek?"

Sometimes their lord came. Sometimes he did not. All things that were meant to happen surely would. He didn’t offer summoning or prayer, for this was Cera’s time to find peace and worship on his own accord. Midas often came to the vein in humble offering of gratitude, and sometimes just to feel the comfort of his heavily father. The ground beneath their hooves was holy and magical, he tread softly with the growing youth in tow. They had just approached the shrine when a small voice, hesitant and excited filled his ears with a question, "Will he like me if he comes?"

A smile tugged at his coal black lips, softened gaze turned to Cera. Jaws gave part for an answer, but none would come. In that instant, the familiar sound of earth rumble and shift summoned the attention of both. Feathers relaxed against his side and cranium turned back to the shrine. Hindquarters gave a step or two in retraction so that Cera was ahead, and him slightly behind. Soil fell from the darkened hide as he appeared before them; the painted father lowered his head instinctively in a half bow.

My lord,” words came revered and low.

"If you are anything like your father, I suppose we will get along just fine."

Such kind response caused Midas to flush inwardly and angle head even lower. His lord was far too generous for such a wayward man such as him. The god of earth acknowledged him, and only then did Midas lift skull to a leveled position. Immediately feeling nerves drain away as he did and attention returned to his Son.

His father turned to him with always present kindness, never judging Cera for his questions. The words of comfort and wisdom never came, and instead a loud rumbling took place, the earth trembling beneath his hooves. At first he was scared, but one glance to seek understanding from Midas showed trust in this sudden change in events. Something eased the colt's temporary anxiety, a mixture of his trust in Midas and the bond he so desperately wanted to have with the one his father looked up to. Wide emeralds looked up in childish awe as a great stallion formed from the earth, shaking himself free of it as if it were nothing. Cera felt a mixture of respect and something close to fear at the power he had. But his eyes were kind and smoothed every worry from his mind, leaving instead a bright and adoring smile directed at the immortal. His words brought immense pride within his breast and caramel striped wings fluttered. "I hope! I wanna be like daddy!" The little colt wanted to be just like Midas, and hoped he too could find peace in prayer and worship to the Gods.

At the mention of that name falling from his own lips Cera turned slightly to see his father a few steps behind. Comforted both by his obvious closeness and the tender, robust nature of the God of the Earth, Cera turned back to the celestial being as if he was a close uncle. No longer as fearful with the peace on his father's face. Cera knew that he would never put him in danger, and recieved a similar vibe from the God. His words struck warmth into the patchy Pegasus, the fact that he wanted to know what Cera wanted being a noble and kindly gesture to the innocent foal. "Well...daddy is away sometimes and I get lonely..." tender face crinkling with sadness as he confided in the God. Feeling as if he were speaking only to him, a secret between the two of them. "But I love daddy! I don't want to be with the others. I want a friend that will always be with me, so I won't be lonely! And we can play and make things!" Previous sadness fading into excitement at the thought of such a creature. The other adults in the Throat were kind, but Cera was adamant in staying away from them. Midas was all he needed and wanted, and he feared their bond would weaken if he shared one with another adult. Only now realizing he didn't know if the God could produce such a perfect friend, wings shuffling in embarrassment and peering up at him with a little smile. "Can you help? Daddy says you can do lots of great things! But I know it is rude to ask for too much." Appearing proud that he remembered this lesson from Midas. One of many that he recited to try and live by his father's ways. Unaware of his incessant talking as Midas had never been impatient with his need to speak and make friends. And the Earth God seemed so friendly too!

OOC: Cera is asking for a Red Panda that can fly with him but is big enough to nurture and aid in his tinkering as his passion for crafting grows stronger. And my apologies if this post is a tad long or rambling!

The God let a slight smile tickle his features, and chuckled lightly as the young colt continued on. What a spirited soul he was! The god let his heavy form fold and bend to meet the earth so that he might lay before the pair. There was no need for such formalities in the presence of such pious and loyal folk as Midas and his son. Besides, all the admiration and flattery was getting to him; there was no need for such constant compliments.

He considered the child's desire carefully, letting himself exhale heavily and ruffle the hairs upon his own beard before deciding. It was clear that any companion he form a bond with should be older than he- Cera was simply a child, he was not yet in the position to raise another like himself. Besides, a lesson or two in patience from an older audience could do him no harm.

"I encourage you to find your own way, Cera," the god began thoughtfully, with a serious look back to the older stallion. "Find a few friends, and in their company you will find what you seek. I suggest your father stay behind this time, it would do you well to venture on your own." He could already tell what Midas' reaction would be, and he felt it himself oftentimes. "Do not fear, gold one. I will ensure that your child stay safe," he reassured with a serious nod and a look of concern in his green eyes. Should the child fall upon any trouble, the god would be watching.

[[Oh, my apologies. I probably should have figured that one out. Regarding your quest; have Cera make at least two new friends without Midas, and after becoming friends with the second, he'll find what he seeks.]]

"I hope! I wanna be like daddy!" Heart rose to new heights when his son spoke with words of high praise and pride. A smile formed and tenderly he gazed at the joyous form. Love had grown between them over the past few months, greater than anything he had ever felt before. Past tense to becoming a father, he had never thought of himself as a role model; mostly he was figured to be just another unworthy mortal. It was in that instant Midas realized how strong of effect he had on his little Pegasus.

Every move, each decision was no longer his own. Cera was ever part of the choices he made, for good or for worst. Receiving the chance to influence a young mind and mold to be either a creature of humbleness or evil—it was the greatest gift he could be blessed with. One day his child would have a youth of his own; either by blood or bond. It would be the remembrance of times like this that kept the sandy avian on a straight and narrow path.

"Well...daddy is away sometimes and I get lonely..."

Gaze turned back to their lord as he took a more relaxed position. Like a shifting hill, darkened limbs buckled to meet underling earth. The lord appeared to rest before them as equals. It was a mortal gesture—despite this, Midas remained standing quietly out of simple respect. Legs locked and wings loosely trailed his sides with the feathers shimmering lightly when a breath of cool air traveled past. Velvet ears perked forward, listening to his son and lord exchange words. He couldn’t stand beside Cera through every instance in life, despite having the fatherly desire to do so. Father earth noted this and firmly instructed the protective remain behind during lessoned task.

Features along his face tightened, mimicking a constriction of his heart muscles. Memories of what had passed long ago trickled into his mind like a hidden virus. He had already experienced the drought of loss, and would seek not to do such again. The little one meant more to him than life itself; he would do anything to see his son to full growth.

As if sensing rising grief his lord showed pity upon him and gave promise of protection whilst the child wasn’t beneath his wings. A held breath was released and calm straightened the furrowing brow and wrinkled muzzle. Thankfulness lowered his mane and softened pitless eyes.

The lord of the earth lowered himself down to rest before the thin colt, and Cera was thankful to see his intimidating size come closer to his level. The God wasn't threatening in personality to the youth, but it was a comfort to have him closer to his own height. Hiding a giggle as his sigh ruffled the hairs at his muzzle that only added to the character Cera was trying to form of him.

At last he spoke, voice returning to the serious tone that Cera had heard moments earlier. Paying rapt attention to the instructions, as he wasn't always good at remembering things, especially with so much to explore and do. Only faltering in his agreement to the conditions when Midas was restricted from joining him. Sandy ears and wings dropping in fear. Cera was afraid he would lose this closeness with Midas, and if he didn't be was also afraid of someone being mean to him. But the Earth God was much, much wiser than Cera could ever be. Glancing back at Midas uncertainly after the God promised to keep him safe, taking in his grateful posture and turning back to face the immortal being. Putting on a brave face, encouraged by the fact that the lord had promised to keep him safe. So what should he have to fear? Nodding to show his understanding of the terms. "Okay! I can do that!" Growing enthusiastic at the thought of a friend.

Going over the God's words once again he faltered, sandy brow drawing together in confusion. "Um...will they have what I seek? My friend? Or you?" Trying out the new word, 'seek', that the god had spoken as he tried to puzzle it out. After all how would his future friend know what he wanted if they hadn't even met each other? The little colt was thinking of all sorts of possibilities by then. If the God would be watching him, would he send the companion to him after he met his friend? Cera inwardly gawked at this possibility, enthralled by the idea. Then again Cera knew nothing of magic, so he had no idea of the boundaries the God could possibly have. Grass colored orbs turning for enlightenment towards the God.

The God of the Earth grinned warmly upon hearing the colt use his own word. It was curious to see a child pick up vocabulary first hand, to watch them as they toyed with a word on their tongue and then, very carefully, spoke it aloud. But Cera did not seem particularly hesitant; the God sensed that it was in the young colt's nature to be outgoing. The task would be no issue then, if Cera opened his mind.

The God watched Midas' expression shift with his words and Cera's do the same. For two not related by blood, they were similar in many ways. Perhaps that was why the child feared leaving him so much. "Your companion will come to you in time on its own, child," the Earth Father murmured kindly with a slow blink and a slight smile at the child's eagerness. He was a god, wise and strong, but he was not simply a dispensary of information. The child would have to find some things out for himself; after that, it would be up to him to decide who to credit for the events that were soon to follow.

[[Neither matter, though there is a thread for foals in the Dragon's Throat if he's looking for characters his age. The companion will appear as an RE in the final thread of your quest; just let an admin know when you need it done. What age would you like the companion to be, by the way? When you said big enough to nurture Cera and aid in tinkering I assumed something older, but it's ultimately up to you.]]
