The colt is too young to have many morals, but as the unwanted critters begin to swarm the clearing, he feels his first taste of confusion. The tree they're helping commands them to get rid of these opposing creatures, but Arakh hesitates for a moment as an internal debate rages in his head.
All animals are hungry after the long, hot Tallsun, not just the critters that live in this tree's thicket. All animals deserve to be helped by the gang of altruistic horses (at least Arakh assumes they are all being altruistic - he truly doesn't realise that there's a prize on the line). Who are they to decide who gets to eat and who doesn't?
But, he muses, this tree must have its reasons. It is older and wiser than him, a simple colt, and he cannot see it demanding they help without good reason. All the same, it does not sit well with the boy that he may have to hurt the offending wildlife, so decides to try and be as none-violent as possible.
He lunges towards the food supplies, standing between two trees of fire that another colt has created. The heat from the branches licks his flesh, but Arakh has no fear of fire - his father was the fire, so by extension, so is he. Snorting loudly, pinning his ears and lowering his head so his bull-horns point menacingly forwards, Arakh paws the ground with a hoof as though he is about to charge the swarming animals. "Critters go away," he commands, his voice far deeper than the majority of foals his age. When he's older, this posture will be far more intimidating, but he fancies that it should manage to scare off at least some of the far smaller woodland critters.
He makes a couple of small faux-charges, flicking his horns and snorting loudly, but attempts to avoid directly making contact with any of the animals. His actions are merely posturing, a none-violent attempt to frighten off some of the more cowardly of the creatures.
