It seemed ages ago. Not moons, but months, and yet though it seemed forever ago, his own words still echoed in his ears, and his feelings towards the gilded mare were still fresh. And that contradiction was not the only one he found as he walked closer. Though their relationship seemed simple, she had only listened when no one else did, it always through up so many complications. It is no secret the golden Laurelin was possessive, but for a living being to gain such a card in their stack was a rare reward. Only one other in this side of the world could call upon it. And it was she he would be seeking next. Yet somehow, their simple relationship had earned this mare one. Somehow, the gold felt his unyielding arms wrap around her.

Her smile meets his and he can’t help but let his false one continue one longer. Though it twists as he tilts his head. She was a good thief, but a terrible liar. The gold clearly didn’t buy a second of it, and his earth eyes still press narrow and cold for their answer. Especially when her eyes drop away, avoiding. His harks lean back and tasseled tail twitches, dragging in the snow. She was hesitating, putting something off. As the silence grew the golden’s face grew darker. What was so difficult to tell him? His imagination was quick to try and fill in the blanks. And one answer, a dark stallion of the past, was biting at his thoughts. Already his hide twitched at the possibilities that he might truly need to….

Her sweet voice lulls back into the night breeze, and the nerves of the gold are settled (his gun silently disarmed). He listens with patience, yet still she beat around the bush. Using her vagueness to hide something still, or so he thought. It wasn’t that the gold didn’t understand. He most certainly was capable of it. His mind still strained to work here in the mountains where memories lay, where responsibilities called him, where so many nights were spend cursing the tall shadows. He left because he could no longer stand all that waited him here (one of those, he turned out to be mistaken about). That frustration didn’t seem to lie within Rexanna and she wasn’t telling the whole story, either that or something had gone drastically wrong. Either way the golden was not satisfied.

His head dips slightly, the acceptance of her words, but his eyes look back up to hers, and they reveal his continued insistence. His mind still fingered over the name Calstron, but he was more careful than that. Their arrangement on that front was more delicate. Unless things went too far, the gold would heel to her word concerning her nightmares. Yet still he wanted more….so he lets his nature relax slightly, but his voice still demanded answers. “Where will you go?” He laughs slightly, trying to lighten the mood. “The lone wolf type doesn’t fit you…” (His own irony at wearing the wolf cloak not totally missed by him). And he lets some lighter smile brighten his features, but there is still the same deeper concern underneath, in his eyes, and his stance.

Somehow the gilded mare had found herself within the protection of Laurelin. A pleasant place to be. Rather expensive at times, but pleasant. It meant though that her safety was guarded….and her happiness was (within her approval) guarded. That included not letting her walk out of her home into the cold wet nights alone. Or into traps set out by insane past lovers. Or any other nightmare which might come her way.
